Hi Pedal,
It is best to place the wireless hub somewhere else outside the listening room. Same for the cell phone during the listening session.
Do you actually have the wireless LAN card installed on your audio PC? If so please remove it and use only the hardline LAN connection. Usually I disconnect the LAN cable from audio PC during listening session. I need LAN only for AccurateRip on DBPA. You wouldn't want to Google from audio PC if you don't have Internet security application. I don't myself.
My remote control to XXHE is very simple ie. wireless keyboard and mouse. Ok Ok. It uses RF anyway. But I have no degradation of SQ at all. May be the RF signal for wireless mouse and keyboard are weak. For monitor, I run HDMI cable to my listening position. Just tuck the cable under the carpet. AC for monitor is easy to sort out!
For critical listening, I run unattended mode and take the USB transceiver out from the audio PC.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: asynchronous NOS1 setup dilemma

Hi Peter,
Sound like a power supply compatibility issue. You have some US customers that run the NOS beautifully and some with trouble. Any Japanese customer running 110 V with problem?
This is pretty random guess.
Have a happy new year ! Regards, Praphan

I fully agreed with Robocop.
1. Hires materials from labels like Chesky, RR do make sonic difference. Not only me but my wife and my children can tell the difference between similar track recorded in red book and 24/192 resolution. The most noticeable difference is the wider space of sound stage and better sense of location of the instruments within "that" stage. Hirez materials offer higher level of musicality and fluidity. This is why firm like Chesky is very stringent in marketing their hires albums. Chesky only ships its hires albums in the USA.
2. Unfortunately, audiophile record labels cannot afford to sign contract with grammy award winning artists. So pretty rare to enjoy world class music with hires sonic quality.
3. We are all aware of the fact that many hires albums offered on the download market are just "fake" upsampling version from red book. We should not waste money on these.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Warm up time of NOS1

Hi Peter,
I think the next version of your NOS1 should be produced without power switch at the back. Just fuse and then feeding AC directly to regulator circuit.
Berkeley Alpha and some Benchmark DACs do not have power switch. Quality of fuse compartment and switch contact can affect the sound quality, not to mention the quality of fuse itself which is very obvious among hard core audiophile.

Congratulation ! As we all know, XXHE is a OS-sensitive application. Any changes in OS may affect SQ. Any updates above and beyond SP1 is subject to risk of shift in SQ too. As for now, there are two leagues in XX community. One is plain vanilla W7 and the other is W7 plus plain SP1. As for me SP1 has a better result. Please check this : http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1820.msg18674#msg18674What I did back then was applying SP1. If you want to achieve optimum outcome from this fine player, you should consider running it on dedicated PC. Juan has posted an excellent thread on building PC that surpasses performance of most hiend mechanical transports. I used to own Benchmark Pre DAC. It is a good value for money. XXHE will be best running on NOS1 USB with double octo AP. This is not a propaganda but fact base. Mani on this forum sold his Pacific Microsonic Model 2 and I moved my Berkeley Alpha to another room. Happy listening. Praphan

Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Quatro Arc Prediction Playback on 176.4 kHz materials by 0.9z-6-1
|
on: December 06, 2011, 04:23:16 pm

Hi Peter,
I do believe that this phenomenon is related to XXHE player rather than NOS1 USB. This is based on my two observations :
(1) All 192 kHz materials can be played back with quatro upsampling. Not only 192 albums from Chesky but also from other labels offering 192 kHz native materials.
(2) Before the release of NOS1 USB, I used to run double AP on all 176.4 kHz albums without problem. It was not until 0.9z-5 that I started having problem with some selected RR albums which fall into type (1) above i.e. not being able to be played back at all with "Wrong Header Data" message. At that time, NOS 1 was not released yet. I did not pay much attention since I was struggling with getting my PC mobo right in order to solve my problem with NOS1 (the AMD thread). I wish I could test 0.9z-4-1 again. But it is impossible since NOS1 USB can only work with 0.9z-6 onward.
With 0.9z-6 and NOS1 USB, 4x 176.4 playback will face either one of the two types of problem as mentioned earlier. It is not track related but album related.
RR albums that fall within type (1) : wrong header data (since z5-1) are as follows : * Crown Imperial * Eiji Oue Minnesota Orchestra Rachmaninoff * Hot Club of Sanfrancisco- Yerba Buena BOUNCE All tracks in three albums above behave the same ie. wrong header data. I cannot find any solution to this.
RR albums that fall in type (2) are as follows: * Eiji Oue Minn Orch Stravinsky * Eiji Oue Minn Orch Exotic Dances * Joel Fan - West of the Sun * HRx Sampler 1 -2008 176.4-24 All tracks in four albums above get distortion after exactly 1:08 minutes. The problem can be solved by applying 2x rather than 4x.
All 96kHz materials are tested with 8x AP : no problem at all.
All the above are fact based.
I am trying to send you some small tracks of both type by email but the files are too big. Will try tools like YouSendIt.
best Praphan

Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Quatro Arc Prediction Playback on 176.4 kHz materials by 0.9z-6-1
|

Hi Peter,
I believe this is the right place to post the captioned subject since it, in a way, is related to NOS1 USB. No other DACs that I know of can take the pre-upsampling digital data up to 705.6 kHz except NOS1 USB. However, the problem is not all about NOS1 USB. But rather it is about playing back 176.4 kHz native materials using 0.9z-6 and 0.9z-6-1 version of XXHE which is required for NOS1 USB.
The problem is specifically applied to playback of 176.4 kHz hires materials from Reference Recordings. I encountered two types of problems when applying quatro AP :
(1) After clicking play on any 176.4 kHz tracks on selected RR albums , XXHE does not play and pops up a dialogue box saying " Wrong header data for ......file name of the track....."
(2) After clicking play on any 176.4 kHz track on other RR albums other than those in (1), XXHE plays that track for 1:08 minutes before a loud distortion starts for the rest of that track. The distortion sounds like playing materials on a tape deck at 4 time the normal speed at high volume. The distortion starts at exactly 1:08 minutes after the beginning of the track for all tracks on RR albums which fall into this type.
Experiment with other settings such as changing KS to WASAPI, reducing SFS, buffer size, etc. Nothing solved the problem for type (1). The only solution for type (2) above is to reduce the sampling rate from "quatro" to "double" (176.4 => 352.8 kHz). Reducing the sampling rate for type (1) did not solve the problem too.
Is this problem applicable to all hires materials ? No ! XXHE z6-1 plays all other 192 kHz materials from Chesky with quatro AP beautifully.
Any clue ? Thanks Praphan

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Windows 7 SP1 Surprise

Hi
I did try full Windows updates (on top of SP1) three months ago. At that point, SQ deteriorated dramatically. Randomly, I even got severe distortion making the music unlistenable that I needed to stop and hit play button again.
The above was solved by removing all the updates.
Since Paul gets positive impact on SQ with latest updates, then there must be some new codes that fixed the issues. Better to mirror this OS image as a safe back up.
I am pondering if I should give it a try. Paul, do you recall the SQ of plain SP1 before loading all the updates?
Thanks Praphan
