So Russ, if you have a similar situation (both ARs being auite off from eachother) then yes, I would be happy to learn whether you can nicely keep on drinking that cup of tee, or raher jump from a bridge first.
And since I am talking to you directly now, you will understand that in this situation black bars should appear at top/bottom so the width gets locked to the sides. Nothing much different from how movies work

further to the PM's etc. and for the benefit of others, RealVNC will zoom in or out to "lock" the image on your controller, and it will lock it either a "pillarboxed" or "letterboxed" mode depending how the aspect ratios of the PC and controller relate. It also depends if you are viewing in landscape or portrait mode. Regardless, it will lock to either the width or height, so there will be no screen movement.

I believe for best results you should consider setting your PC's screen res to the native res of your controller anyway, so you establish pixel to pixel mapping.

=============

It's generally recognised that the Android OS "Honeycomb [v3.2]" is a bit of a mangy dog , and was essentially a go-between an OS for a phone and a tablet. Coupled with the customisation that the phone hardware companies such as Samsung/HTC etc added, and you get a suboptimal response in a lot of scenarios.

First thing most folks do is get rid of that customised launcher app ie. Samsung's TouchWIZ or HTC's Sense etc, and replace it with something like GO Launcher EX , available from the Market Place. A lot of the lag issues are eliminated and you have far more extensive GUI customisation at your disposal Happy

The latest Android OS "Ice Cream Sandwich" ( ICS ), is a far better experience, and that OS is slowly being rolled out to the later hardware still stuck on versions 3.x or 2.x

I concur about the philosophy of the Android world. Keep it open architecture and development will generally be faster and more extensive. It was proven with the PC's and I expect it will follow suit on the phones/tablets. Majority of folks don't want to be locked into a dictatorial way of doing things.

I shall have a play with that alternative Peter if I can find it.

Cheers,

Russ

hey Pete,

have you tried RealVNC ?

http://www.realvnc.com/products/download.html

http://www.realvnc.com/products/android/index.html

I have been using that successfully with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S - Gingerbread 2.3 ) and tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 - Honeycomb 3.2 ) to access my Windows 7 PC's.

Provided the screen aspect ratio of the PC matches the aspect ratio of the phone/tablet you won't get screen scrolling on the phone/tablet, unless you zoom in. ie. the screen is static and the mouse moves to all parts of the screen just like the PC does.

If that is the behaviour you need then give it a try.

If I can assist in any testing, without having the bluetooth dongles, just holla.

Cheers,

Russ

There's a bloke down under that would be wanting a pair Happy

Cheers,

Russ

That bloke from down under has been thinking about getting an additional set so he has spares in case one dongle stop working years from now and they are no longer readily available. Seems like a good idea, so please update your list for him to reflect two (2) pairs needed, ie. 4 dongles in total.

But do you have the gorgeous weather we have overhere ?

nea

A quick look at your weather forecast shows a nice Spring day for yourself and a nice week ahead. It's a little cool over near now running out Autumn, but the last few days have been sunny and clear.

I reckon it will take a full day to read the release notes for z-7, so hopefully the weather with turn cold by then and I can devote an afternoon to that task while sitting in front of a cosy fire Happy

Russ

52  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Mass Tagging - tango.info ?? on: May 11, 2012, 05:27:11 am
Hi Roy,

I trust you are keeping well Happy

While in principal I can see this new tagging method being useful to some extent, when I looked at tango.info website there was the merest drop in the ocean of artists covered, and they all appeared to be latin music (ie. tango) related. I just can't imagine it ever growing to the extent where is will be viable, such as Gracenote (formerly CDDB) now is.

Tango.info also appears to be a commercial site (as suggested by the support from advertisement), and I am usually dubious about using commercial sites to access databases. That is why I mainly use freedb.org when the need arises.

Take care Happy

Russ

G'day Carsten,

was that screen shot the result of using the pop-up panel that allows you to select by date range "created" or "last modified" ? That function is chosen from the button just to the left of the "path name" box, which itself is just to the left of the " ... " button.  If you did, then the results in the middle panel are presented in the order of the system properties for the folder.

The fact that quite a number of entries are missing between "Alex Cine" and "Cold Play" suggests that may be the case. Not seeing your complete middle panel listing makes it a little difficult to be 100% sure, but judging by the size of the vertical scroll bar in relation to the total height suggests there are a significant number of albums not shown, which would be the case if you used the date range function.

If you right click on the left panel and chose the "Show Music Root" option, do they all then appear in correct order in the middle panel?

BTW, this all assumes you have a licensed copy of XXHE. If you are running in "DEMO" mode, then the total number of entries shown are limited to something like 100 or so.

Cheers,

Russ

PS. Nice selection of jazz albums amongst them Happy
54  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / An interesting article about HiRes recordings on: March 12, 2012, 07:12:49 am
I was forwarded a link to an interesting article a few days back regarding the virtues (or not) of high resolution recording, that I thought most here might enjoy reading.

http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html

Now, I happen to agree with most of the ideas put forward, but I'm sure there will be a few here in disagreement  Grin

Enjoy the read .. I did!

This is exciting news indeed Peter Happy

I think it would be true to say that the majority of XXHE users would have a smart phone (or tablet) by now, and with IOS & Android accounting for probably 90 to 95% of operating systems in use on those devices, means we can all enjoy the remote functionality soon without a large expense.

I should also think that when the remote functionality is implemented, there will be a surge of new users, who have been reluctant to come onboard due to it's lack of remote operating thus far.

I can imagine there was significant time spent in developing this feature !

Really looking forward to version -7.

Cheers,

57  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Small Bug : Dragging the slider to the bottom on: February 21, 2012, 01:20:00 am
It does make it awkward to rebuild a gallery from scratch.

Select (left-click) the first album, and now press SHIFT-END.
All albums are now selected without using the scroll bar.

Thanks Eric ... I had forgotten about that keyboard shortcut. It will come in handy for folders I have pre-sorted into a specific genre/category, for example, all my XRCD releases.

Cheers,

Russ

That's been happening for quite a number of versions back, and I think Peter knows about it. It does make it awkward to rebuild a gallery from scratch. I have got around the bug by only using the slider a little at a time, but it's obviously not ideal.

59  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Hey laptop users...... on: February 01, 2012, 01:29:13 pm
Remember to run battery right down before recharging helps preserve battery life which seems to be about as long as the warranty lasts.

I've yet to read anywhere where that is the best approach to take. Battery life longevity is more a function of the "smarts" within the charging circuitry.

Hey there Peter .. enjoying your heat wave ? Wink It's a balmy 34C here at the moment!

I agree you can see the coverart by using the Library Area button on the top bar, then navigating to individual folders by using the search function at the bottom, but that will only show the contents for that folder. I assumed that preproman wanted to see ALL his albums at a glance, and unless I'm mistaken all these years (which has been known to happem .. lol), then a gallery with all his albums, spread across multiple drives, needs to be created first. Once created, he then simply points to the gallery root, and all under it are displayed.

hooroo,

Russ
