Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ?

Personally I would like my future "ultimate" DAC to feature a BNC clock input. I belive an external clock with huge PSU can be good. I am not an engineer, so I wonder if this option is easy to implement in your new DAC prototype? An external clock shouldnt be needed. If done well (really well) the DAC has to be the master clock. Another thing is that most DAC's are working from x48kHz samplingfrequency. (48, 96, 192, etc). But the CD is 44,1kHz. So inside the DAC, there has to be a samplerate convertion (SRC) chip in front of or integrated inside the DAC chip. A NOS design like this (Peter correct me if I'm wrong) does not change the sampling rate, whichever you put in, that will be out. It is filterless. The beauty of peter creation is that it can accept 48, 88.2, 96,176,4 and up to 192k. Just to cite all available sampling rates I believe this SRC converters are "not good". No, they are cr*p, they ruin the signal and add jitter, to avoid like all digital filters.

Hey, thanks for the info Telstar. Can you point me to a thread about this ? I want to understand what's actually wrong, or maybe contribute to that thread. Depending on how the situation is, get my money back maybe. In the very end I want to taste the benefits, where one of them is speed (it really matters). Read all this article: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3403&p=7There is some discussion on various hw forums, my favourite is xtreme systems. No thread that i know talks about audio performance. But the latency issue IS an issue, due to intel ich and the jmicron controller of the majority of MLC SSD drives. I dont think you can get a refund, but I hope u try soon a different SSD drive and post an update.

I have an OCZ 64GB (and btw, I don't think SSDs exist in SATAII, only SATAI).
My chipset is the ICH8, but I must be careful, because there's also a JMicron part in there, and the lot can be controlled by 3 "drivers". Since I'm not using RAID this is beyond the user (me anyway) what you're actually using.
IIRC the IDE port is NOT part of intel ICH from ich7. BTW there ARE serious problems with MLC SSD units (all but Intel) with intel controllers, so serious that you may have 1-3s pauses of everything, including music. You dont have such because you minimized services and cpu/disk usage. So, you have a problem. The solution is not cheap, either way. Get a MLC disk, get an Intel MLC disk, or get an Areca sata raid card. SeVeRed, do you have the same type of SSD? I do THINK to agree with Gordon that SSD SHOULD be better for a music pc... Besides, Windows7 will improve SSD speed and functionalities and may be good for sound too. A Beta2 or perhaps RC0 will be worth to try.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: VISTA 32bit or 64bit ?

Hi!
I have ordered i new Dell PC with a "Intel Core 2 Duo E8400" processor, dedicated for PC-Audio. I have ordered it with Vista Ultimate and the 32bit Vista version is installated when i get it. But i think a DVD with the 64bit Vista will come with the pack.
Should i get Dell to installate the 64bit version ? Is 64bit better to the soundquality with XXHighEnd ?
Thanks, Tore
I dont think so. On the contrary you may have drivers issue with 64 bit. So, unless you need >3gb of memory for video apps, go with 32 bit.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Firewire connection

Hi Bernard,
Take a PCI card (and not even the cheapest one). It does matter (much) for me, and I encountered the same with others. Anyway for the 10 euro such a card costs, you can always try !
Peter
A good firewire card with Ti chipset costs 50-60 euros. The cheap one probably wont change much vs the motherboard controller.

Hia all, Thank you very much for all your answers....... I am going to try a few things out before buying a new one.... And maybe i will keep it with the EMU i have had.... But than not an PCI and i will look for an external EMU.... Thanx again.... Get the ESI firewire, its cheap. 96khz is the only limit, but if thats fine for you, that gets my vote.

I recommend you upgrade to sp1 whenever possible as this patch, really makes vista faster and they have fix alot of stuff. copying files from network shares is definitely improved. network seems smoother.. overall, Vista is smoother now.. This is what vista should of have been since the beginning...
Besides the network fix (which was longtime due!) I didnt notice any improvement on my two systems. The lower-end was updated 3 weeks ago when the sp1 was not on windowsupdate yet. The higher end machine today, but it's 64 bit so no xx for it.

I shut down xxhe and this time without doing anything i hit play, and it started playing without errors. I hit stop and poof, BSOD irql_not_less_than_equal Today I coincidentally ran into a post mentioning this error as caused by the (W?)LAN driver. Also, if you have Bluetooth on board (and you don't use it), try to uninstall the drivers for it. That BSOD can be caused by almost anything. But because my machine is rock solid, the only cause is the audio. Either terratec driver, or the handing of the pci use by the mainboard or something in the latest version of xxhe.

It is plain impossible that *and* Needs 24 *and* needs 32 is supported. So put your bets on 32 only, and try now. Note that it can do "more" than before. If you only have errors now while before something played, then I must be careful with what I did. So please let know ...
I'm not sure to understand: do you want me to put 32 bit/something in the dac properties and try again to play something? I decided to go ahead and i'm installing SP1 right now.
