Title: XXHighend + JPLay = even better
Post by: ivo on January 11, 2012, 11:20:42 am
Hi audiophiles,

I am on my way to upgrade some of my HW and was browsing the net. Accidentally discovered the new player "JPLay" and decided to try.
Wow! Sounds great in "Hibernation mode" and via KS, but so does the XX in unattended and in minimized OS.
I decided to try this after all:

Minimize OS using XX and then run JPlay in Hibernation mode via KS. Why so? Because JPlay alone does not stop anything, but XX does it really well.
SOUND: it really seemed to be better than bare XX or bare JPlay. Although JPlay does not upsample or filter anything, sound really seemed more open, clear and lively. Of course, need to listen more, but these are my first impressions. And yes, full version costs 99 EUR.

Just read that Hibernation mode actually means shutting down things, but anyway, using them (XX and JPlay) together has the added value to the SQ.

Anybody else notice JPLAY's version 4.1 the polarity is reversed compared to XXHighEnd?

Once you switch polarity in JPlay-mini by pressing p they sound more a like.

XXHighEnd still wins with a bigger sound stage and smoother highs in my humble opinion :)

A Foobar plugin for XX would be cool.

Yes, I have tried CPlay - sounds good, but from usability perspective not very nice. Although I have got used to XX, JPlay seems very easy to use plus it sounds nice as well. I guess need to test them all once more. Need time for this.

Hi Ivo,

I just tried cPlay.
To me it sounds like Foobar.

Peter... please make an API for XXEngine so that other developers can join in the fun and make plugins for Foobar and custom UIs. HQPlayer had a nice WPF UI at one time (see pic). I would like to reproduce that for XX. It would look nice on a smartphone or small tablet as a remote interface to XX.

Thank you for all your hard work and excellent player. I bet your dac is excellent too.

For me XX high end is much much better than c-play . Better focus better and correct dynamic . Soundstage !

By the way I have "got " c-play working under linux , with asio driver . Crazy no? :-)
