For a laptop the best hussle free option would be Firewire800 I think. Note that Firewire is really like a network (similar to ethernet) and you can connect and expand disks as you want. BUT : I really don't know what happens if your sound is Firewire connected too (like you have). O dear ...
Yes, FireWire800 is fast but, Vista does not support that. XP does.... so when I do my backup I switch back to XP (then it is twice as fast as USB or FireWire400... Bert

Files look just like yours - my file is called "folder". If I click on properties it shows it to be a jpeg 124x124 pixels. What is strange is if I double click on it, it says 'file cannot be opened'. This is strange cause the picture shows on the front of the folder. Hi Chris, I have seen that problem elswhere..... your folder file probably has the extention "jpeg" instead of "jpg". The only way to get that changed properly is to have you Windows show all extentions (exe, dll, txt, and so forth). Then it is simple to change the file with a proper extension. Or XX should not be so critical to the file name... Computers...once they work okay then I love them but when they don't... Bert

Thanks Peter, Even on a 1680 wide screen I very much prefer the cover art position as it is now with a much better overview and related space for the track list! Getting better...

Many hours later of trying to get my system to rebooting again, I had to temporarily solve it by mounting another disk with the Vista OS on it (from another PC), and right away the glitches were gone again. Yeah, that was a long night! Glad to be of help... I do hope that all is working as before (except for the glitches!). Bedtime... Bert

I was sitting listening to music with the Fireface Settings box open. When the first drop-out occurred an Error message appeared in the normal empty space above the AutoSync box. It read Error 1.
At the next drop-out it changed to Error 2 etc. There were typically 3-5 errors per track.
I have such errors when my samples are set too low..... If you change the sample rate in the FireFace settings window then you'll have to restart XX to have any effect. Perhaps you have it standard set to 128 samples and have restarted XX several times so that my post doesn't help but still... Good luck and Dell seems to do well with their service, afterall... Bert

I think a physical 800 ceonnection will pass through an actual 400 logical connection, but you'd have to solve the cabling conversion.
Such cables are for sale at most places...I am using my 3x 800 FireWire card with such a cable to connect it to the FireFace. No problemo... Bert

Please remember this is not much different from installing random software, which IMHO (!) nobody tries to do on another PC than where it's used. And then OTOH again ... you were tricked by the fact that the license allows you to run the software on any PC in your network. This, while it's apparent (??) that the applicable PCs can't even talk to eachother ?
I am using it on both PC's as it is more easy and faster than RDP to "play" on my work PC in between work. I am sure that there are more people who listen on their other PC to select, rip CD's, check them out, listen a bit, make MP3's or for whatever reason which migth be more handy than doing this on a dedicated Music Center that is close to the audiosystem with a lousy (or none at all) chair to work properly. Perhaps the system isn't even turned on to be able to hear what you're doing. But, as said, you'll find a solution for that and nobody is to blame for something that is not 100% foolproof... Bert

The firewall is build-in my antivirus software and running on my work PC. There is always a way to access my PC from anywhere else even with the router's firewall activated. Even through browsing the Web... My work PC should remain clean to prevent that I am going to give my customers some free virusses, worms or trojans without me knowing that.
I made the firewall trigger a popup message as soon as the other PC wanted to access my work PC to see which door of the firewall I should keep open, now XX has access from the other PC.
This would be impossible when the "activated PC" is not connected to the network, now I must have both PC's running to be able to startup XX on my music center in UnDemo mode (or the other way around if XX was activated on my Music center).
Good to know that I do not have a demo soon elsewhere, I will have to bring both my PC's to be able to play a longer list than 10 minutes!
You will find a way though so that such things are not a problem anymore, perhaps it would be an idea to be able to transfer the activation form one PC to another one? That would solve the computer crash or windows update issue (from XP to Vista or so).

2. On this other PC you can enter the path to the "original" PC and location (as described in here Activation ... How ?). Peter, I activated XX on the wrong PC. After some trouble I managed to activate XX on the Music Center and that worked out okay until this morning. XX couldn't find the path anymore (the firewall was activated again) and prompted an error message telling me that. The only way to get it working is to unluck the firewall for a while and then start XX on the music center... If this is the intention how the "protection" should work then please give me a new activation code so that I can activate it on my music center where I use XX the most and which PC is not so much protected from the outside world so I can access XX there more easy. a. You do use 0.9a, right ? (because with 0.9 of which I know you have it, it does not work).
Now it works.... (0.9a) Had to open and disable all security and moved the XXHighEnd directory to my shared documents folder so that I did not have to share more than needed to be able to have access from another PC to the one directory where XX was activated previously and then enter the path (closing with "\" ) in XX (the one not yet being activated). Pffff, please no new numbers for me, it costed me several hours to figure out how to have all PC's communicate with the XXHighEnd folder. Now I know....good luck to all others! Back to the CrazyA's..... time to get these ready for the public! Bert

Lastly, these "limitations" just come forth from what I just said : from my point of view it should be normal if you can use or try all the PCs you have around you; it's implied by the nature of what we're doing here (and I really don't care if 10 PCs are playing at the same time in your house ). Thanks for having the option to activate more players on several PC's connected to the network but it doesn't work....at least I can't get it to work on any other PC than the one where the player was activated. Even with all firewalls disabled so that nothing is blocking the communication between the PC's and the one with the activated player.... If it will work someday in the future, do I still need to have all PC's connected to the network (without firewalls) to be able to use the player in UnDemo'd mode on any PC?? Bert
