Title: Full Permission of Windows folder
Post by: SeVeReD on September 14, 2008, 07:37:55 am
I have full permission of all other folders, but the windows folder won't give me full permission and I think that is why I can't shut off indexing fully on my main C:/ drive.  Peter, anyone? do you have full permission control of your Windows folder?

Also, using the program dpclat http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
It stays at a constant ~61 ... I think when I first loaded windows without much tweaking/hardware installed I was down in the 20 range.  I think the guy that developed Cplay for winxp was able to get down to ~1 (or some absurdly low number; can't find the post now)  I don't know if it matters.

Anyway, I can follow Peter's advice on how to tweak my system dead except for shutting off indexing of C:/ drive.  my 3 external drives shut off no problem.  Would it have anything to do with me changing the computer name after the install?

FWIW
I bought Vista 64 prem SP1 OEM ... I wonder if I should have tried to hunt down one with no SP or what... SP0
I have not gone to the MS site for any updates.

No, I can't get anything to change for the Windows folder either. But then I did not need to in order to get all the things applied from the "tweaked to dead" topic.

Indexing to my c: drive is off for sure.
Ah, but you can wonder whether that succeeds by means of my suggestion : apply to all files or whatever it exactly is. I sure can imagine that this can't be applied to the c: drive because it really physically goes through the files and amends something (I think). And that won't be allowed for the Windows folder ...

To be honest, I can't recall that I did this for the c: drive. I was always more bothered by the data drives, and by pure coincidence my Galleries (which is a million of files) are not on c: but on d: though the same disk. You indeed they could be shut off, and I'm sure I did "those" (hence d:). It took over an hour iirc.

I just wanted to try it for you, but didn't dare to press the button. I mean, my system *is* dead quiet, and it could only get worse. And before being able to shut indexing off the proper way, it has to be turned on, right ? So ... :nea:

Btw, my poor Vista still has the 1000 for a standard (something's really wrong there, but aparently it doesn't bother for audio playback).

Well, I'll just shut down indexing on everything I can then.  I don't think it's a problem.  I'll write up about my system in a bit, but for now, let's just say I've never heard 16/44.1 sounding better.
