166  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Re: "Panic Button" on: August 13, 2010, 02:44:25 am
Maybe its not a bad thing to make some kind of dead-switch (dodemans-knop) in xx or mute,
if you have your dac directly connected to your amps, with digital volume control.
If something happens like static or noise i want to be in control, need to get volume down or mute very fast.

With all those expensive speakers and amps of some people here,

My question is what to do when "it" happens, what button to use, or does have NOS1 some kind of protection.
What if pc craches and there is no mute or something like that,
You will run into troubles sooner or later, what to do?

What are you're thoughts ?, whats the "panic" button.

Does NOS1 has mute for eg.

a little add-on, if you have not such a big music collection, better get a laptop hdd for eg. samsung 1TB,
they are faster at starting up the disc from off mode.
This can save time and troubles in xx.

Next january they release even a 2TB laptop drive, together with a 4TB normal disc.

5400rpm is fast enough anyway.

I have AHCI working that alows hot-swap and hot-plug

With eSata ??
Tell me !! ... aggressive

Yes, ofcourse, esata=sata, usb it doesnt matter, drop disc in system and it will be there in secs.

I got myself a 15euro docking station with psu to watch my hd-movies, i chooce from my vERy big list a movie,
see on what hdd it is and drop it in the docking station, usb2 is fast enough too.
works flawless, esata just the same, just faster.

But how, that depends on mobo i guess, and recent bios update, also proper raid drivers.
I think i got it working by updating the bios a long time ago.
Gigabyte again and again, haha

wushuliu,

What about eSATA instead of usb2 with seperate psu setup, they sell seperate casings with psu, also both connections: usb2 and eSata are available.
 Happy

Its not about the a seperate psu on the hdd, its about getting them of the psu that powers your mobo (and soundcard!)
But will it matter for SQ, I think not, but its just a smarter set-up.
Also think about when updating your music hdd, when you have a seperate audio pc, external hdd can be handy.
I have AHCI working that alows hot-swap and hot-plug, i can "drop" any hdd (no OS) in my sytem in secs without rebooting.

170  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Analog stereo RCA cable on: August 12, 2010, 04:39:55 pm
Hey Ivo,

The best way is to DIY,
spend it on high grade materials rather then spending it on a "famous high-end" brand.
I have seen a lot of those "expensive" interlinks from the inside and its nothing more then "normal" wire.
Those still costing you hundreds of euros/dollars, what a waste.

Use materials like 99,9999 silver or high grade OFC copper pref. solid-core wire and use teflon as dielectric insulator instead of PVC.

Let me know if you are into DIY, you can build your own.

To Peter,

Did you ordered the cable materials I mentioned to you in a PM ?
I think you did, or at least almost the same.
They will be worth while as analog interlinks, believe me.
Although the length between your dac and amp concerns me, maybe do shield them. (for eg. 3M copper foil and braided copper) dont connect the copper shielding to ground just leave as is.

If you are planning on building those, get enough booze on the side because they are NOT easy to build.
(you need to make a mould, to get the wire properly in place and you need an extra hand)

For now,

Roy
171  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 09z-2 stop playing last track in playlist early on: August 08, 2010, 04:41:57 pm
Strange, 09z-2 has been running smoothly on my computer since I installed it over a month ago. However during the last few days,
I noticed that the last song on a playlist always stop about 5-10 second before the end of the track.
If I only have one song on the playlist, everything is fine but if more than 1 song on the playlist, the last song always stop early.
The setting remained exactly the same for the last 3-4 weeks, no new program or anything else added to the computer.
The server is win7, dual core, I use engine 4, power scheme 3, 1024mb buffer on both xxHighend and Lynx card, running 4x arc prediction.

Thanks for any suggestion or help.

This is an old bug, this has never been solved. (Peter is aware of this !)
I have this problem too, for over a year I think.
This has nothing to do with the latest version.

Hard to solve with no obvious reason were this happens.

I think maybe there went something wrong in your .NET framework update, if this was updated.
Maybe this helps a bit !?

What a disaster, most awfull and anoying game i've ever seen (Glad I watched the game near the Bavaria bar)

Congratulations to Spain, they won it by fair play, Spain definitely deserved to win, but they didn't play this match great and fair either.
What was/is Nigel thinking, he should have had a double-red card for that faul, foot on chest.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11SGLKSQwjQ

But we were dominating the game and should have won.

So I dont think they deserve to be honoured, they are all pro's and should know that only first place counts.
Especially when think you should play an end game like this.

Ill give a 2.9 for showing up and tomatoes for the referee Tomatoes !

174  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? on: July 09, 2010, 11:54:18 pm
I2S is always superiour to spdif,

I2S is a so called chip-to-chip connection, the output ic from the souncard gets directly connected with the receiver chip in the dac.
This means that data and bit- and wordclock signals stays separated were spdif merges these together and get separated again at the dac side.
I2S has a 3 wire configuration while spdif just uses 1. (this is strange because a cd mechanism outputs I2S)
This skips the need for PLL at the DAC side, wow, less jitter better sound, but this is just half the story, add a good master word-clock and the fun just begins.
Although I think the length of the I2S connection should remain as short as possible.

A simple mod to for e.g. an ESI Juli@ soundcard, will give you I2S output from your pc. (if you have a dac that can input I2S ofcourse)

Cheers,

Roy

177  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9z-2 "No Track given" message during playback on: June 30, 2010, 09:44:53 pm
Peter,

Best would be i think 3 cores for windows and software,
1(2) cores exclusively for xx audio tasks.

Can there be played with those affinity assignments, i mean at programmers level.

Hoi
178  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9z-2 "No Track given" message during playback on: June 30, 2010, 09:33:31 pm
Marcin,

Use a dual-core to reference at least, 1 core wont do the complete trick.
Look into your taskmanager --> processes you will see that #3Engine.exe has set to an affinity of 1 core.
So if you use several cores, other processes can be done on the remaining cores.
wow, less issues, better sound
 Happy

PS: Just a though, what if, we now asume that underclocking/undervolting is good, but what if is all about raw cpu speed, all can be dealt with much faster,
so more "headroom" for music, it would probably be something in between.

180  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9z-2 HDCD decoding issue on: June 25, 2010, 09:33:51 pm
Hey Jarek,

I think that cuetools is right, so its most likely not a hdcd.
Open the ANALYSIS.DAT file and change the HDCD=YES in to HDCD=NO
This avoids further error messages.
(you can send the troubled file to Peter anyway, so he can see were this goes wrong)

I have some albums that are the other way around, cuetools says they are hdcd,
whilst xx does not regocnize them as such.

Some work has to be done in this area, i guess

Best,

Roy
