751  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: We all fell in the W7 pitfall on: October 02, 2010, 09:42:24 am
Isn't it crazy ?
Have been playing for hours and hours last night, and from the beginning to the end there was a large smile on my face. Couldn't find anything sounding wrong at even one note.

Hi Peter,

good to see you back in the right yard. Happy

"And  it is a great pity, you lost 9 month with real "State of the art" music replay.  Cry

So,there is no question in my mind that 2 drives are better than one... and maybe it has nothing to do with Vista vs W7...

Hello Mani,

I'm one of those manics who wants to have the newest release of the MS OS always, so the "Candidate Release" of W7 was installed on my PC, and upgraded to the official W7 as soon as it was available.
The first installation of XXH was on that W7 PC in October 2009. The SQ of XXH was good but no real  match to the Reimyo CDP-777.
I read Peters post in December and installed VISTA 64 bit.

The change of the SQ was "shattering" in a positive way. Amazing. The music was that involving and it was hard to believe what was going on. (I sold the the Reimyo in January 2010)

Yes, I think we all wasted our time and money on an under performing OS.

Hello Peter,

please see my post on December 30, 2009, 12:12:42 am under the "Topic: Windows7 ? hmm ... maybe not ! "

Starting with your scepticism about W7, I went back to VISTA 64-bit and it was strange to read all the problems with XX, W7 and the SQ.

09z-2 is running under VISTA smooth without any problems, great sound, no glitches, SFS is set to 25MB. Even no problems with 4 x arcpre with 44KHz / 16bit wave files with SFS=25MB.

VISTA is the absolute preference for XXH.

754  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? on: September 15, 2010, 06:21:14 pm
Let me ask the question that we all want to ask (but perhaps are too 'afraid', knowing how many things you've got going on right now): when can we get our hands on a final production-version NOS1?

Mani.

Hi Mani,

as long as we are coming  with additional requests all the time (like a volume control, 8 channel outputs) Peter will never come to an end.
My proposal: a plain NOS 24/192 DAC as intended by Peter, and we will get it on 12-24-2010.

Peter: And indeed, only a matter of the volume control being in there (though not active at all) is enough to "destroy".

It looks like I will have take delivery of the "bare-bones" Phasure NOS1 DAC, rather than waiting for the 8-channel version (with extras), if I want the purest sound.

Hi Peter,

as a music lover and willing to invest a lot of money I'm looking for components on the market, which are superior in SQ to what is offered now.
Everything what will degrade the SQ shall be eliminated in the signal path. This was your intention from the beginning too.

My proposal is:
you will manuf.
1) a "Highend" DAC with the main target for the best SQ possible (no volume control).
2) a" Lowfi" DAC with a volume control, headphone connection, additional subwoofer output, 8 channel outputs etc. whatever the customer wishes.

In my system the XXHighend PC (no notebook) is installed for music replay only, and there is no problem (slow reaction) with the volume control.

And this brings me to the volume control ...

Hi Peter,

in my opinion you should deliver the first 100pcs DAC as planned without volume control. GO for the best SQ as intended.
This was your intention until the "volume control" came up and you should not waggle.
As I see from your story, there is a lot of research involved,  and we would like to have the "World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC"

NOW

without volume control and the best SQ available.

Enthusiastics may have a look to the" Weiss ATT202 Passive Attenuator".

highend is a long journey and it will never end.

But I'd rather not spend too much money on an amp right now beacuse I have a feeling that ultimately, I'll end up with low-powered amps driving ultra-high efficiency speakers with active line-level crossovers.

Hi Mani,

I do believe that there is a false interpretation of my post.
I recommended "to listen" to a Dartzeel amp and not to buy one. Tastes are different.
I buy most of the audio equipment second hand only. This is a reason that I did not have to sell my wife and the life insurance until now (maybe in the future).
The prices of audio equip. are not calculated on earth nowadays. You see it on the price tag of the Berning Quadrature Z.
The cheapest and major improvement of the SQ is an investment in the acoustic of the listening room. (the priorities are: acoustic first, acoustic second, speaker positioning third)

You wrote on July 28th, that speed is essential, and the Dartzeel (second hand: EUROS 7.000,00 - and I'm driving now a 6 year old Polo) is the fastest amp I ever listened to, and the amp has ULTRA strong 100watts/8 Ohms down to 1,6 Ohms.
Ken Kessler was driving the Quad ESL 2905 with a McIntosh 2102 / (http://www.quad-hifi.co.uk/downloads/HFN%20ESL%20review%2006.pdf)

We are eager waiting for your comments  / praise of your new Magtech Amplifier (the power of this amp is unbelievable, amazing).

kind regards

Joachim

For anyone who's interested, I've ordered ................. .
very happy
Hi Mani,

highend is a long journey and it will never end.

If you have a chance you should listen to a Dartzeel NHB-108B (www.dartzeel.com). This is one of the best amps in musicality terms and can drive your speakers easily.

The reason for the installation of XXH was to listen to our music with the best SQ available.

WE know that XXH was optimized for VISTA in the end, and an upgrade to a new OS will cause a negative (we should know the quality of the MS OS since years) effect to the SQ normally.

WE are the users to blame for, because everybody was eager to install W7 without any precautions (installation of XXH on a separate music system only).

As I wrote before, the first installation of XXH was under W7, and then I changed to VISTA by the end of Dec. 09.
The music under W7 was without air around the instruments, less depth and width in the soundstage in comparisions to my CD player. The sound was "compressed" and had a lack of timbre at the guitars and horns.

The SQ under VISTA is superior and I will not change the present system until I get a signal/update from Peter if possible.
The present SQ is really amazing, and the CD player (Reimyo CDP 777) is ready for the shelf.

Hi Peter,

I started to use the XXH under W7 since October 09 and was not familiar with the SQ under VISTA.

My main target is to listen to a really good SQ, the menues of the OS are not that important.

VISTA SP2 is installed on the Sony VAIO laptop since 2009-12-29, and the difference of the SQ is by wide margin. I'm not talking about a small increment.
This are total different worlds.
Under VISTA the SQ has timbre, depth and width. Unbelievable.
For the next time the Vista OS with the XXH  is my preference for real music replay and I can sell my CD-player.

Hi,

I had the same problem with Windows 7 Home Premuim (64bit), and changed to Windows 7 Prof (32bit) and since then everything is running smoothly. Happy

Greetings
