Title: Wont Minimise
Post by: Scroobius on May 25, 2013, 09:10:41 am
Hi Peter - I have installed XX on an i5 laptop (brand new W7 loaded) - everything was fine with the install and the licence key is loaded correctly. However XX will not go into minimized os. When I press the Minimize OS button the small "XX" box come up top left with the "wait" message. After a while the wait box disappears and that is all that happens there is no reboot.

I have followed the procedure in the tutorials but still it will not go into minimized.

Did I create a restore point? nah I was waiting for XX to do it for me but I never got that far.

I ask because I want to avoid re loading the os if I can.

Paul

Cheers

Title: Re: Wont Minimise (correct) in 09z-9 windows 7
Post by: JohanZ on May 27, 2013, 03:32:39 pm
Is this a problem for version 09z-9?

I have this problem with 09z-9. When i select "minimize os" the system makes a restore point and after that the message "reboot for minimizing os?". After a yes i get a message monitoring is going to sleep and no reboot. When i reboot the system i get the message in XX "someting wrong in the os state. The minimize os.....button reflects the current state" . The button reflect "minimized mode" in XX. How do i get the reboot working correct.

Johan,

If all is right it is already correct. But to be certain, do this (and actually you *must* do this) :

Reboot into Normal OS.
Reboot back into Minimized OS.

The problem you will have encountered (maybe Paul the same), is that once in a while booting into Minimized won't go (through); reattempt it (once you saw it did not work) always helps (here).
The "once in a while" is maybe one out of 20 for me.

The mere tricky part of this is that it can happen that the monitor stays off while actually a message is showed that the reboot will not go, while you think it's all right. Next nothing happens, thus you press the power button on the PC. And then it shuts off (but you may see it still runs).

Regards,
Peter

So actually you can't go back to Normal Mode eh ?
haha
Is this correct ?
(if yes, then I have another suggestion)

Yes i can go back to normal mode. Selecting minimized os button and with an reboot i am back in normal mode. Selecting minimized mode button again there is no reboot. Resetting the system and starting XX again tells me i'm in minimized mode.

Johan,

There should be a message after the reboot into Minimized attempt. What is it ?

i get the message in XX "something wrong in the os state. The minimize os.....button reflects the current state"

And the button indicates "minimized os"

Nope ...

Go to Normal OS Mode ... then attempt to boot into Minimized, and *then* there should be a message.

So that is the message I like to know.

When i select "minimize os" the system makes a restore point and after that the message "reboot for minimizing os?". After a <yes> i get a message "monitoring is going to sleep". Nothing happens anymore. When i'm moving the mouse, the screen came alive with XX still in Normal mode and the following message appears:

Ok Johan, that is what I meant.

When this first message is on-screen, can you please send me the XX log file ? I will learn more from there what is going on.

I had exactly the same behaviour - monitor going dead and then two error messages appearing above XX on moving the mouse. I just pressed 'OK' to both of them and them pressed the 'Minimize OS' button again. Everything worked fine after this.

By now I know that this is about the PC being too slow in a parallel process. So, the process is not finished, while another expected it was.
Nothing about "slow PC's" as such. I too have it sometimes and actually wrongly coded by me.

If this really doesn't work, also not after a second or third attempt (seems Johan's case) ... I have a patch readily available. For now give me a shout when it is needed; later I will put it up officially.

Thanks for the feedback.
Peter
