Title: Any idea why my DAC's not seeing HDCD data?
Post by: DannyD on October 07, 2010, 09:34:27 pm
My DAC's not seeing HDCD data.  XXHE sees the same file as HDCD, and I don't have XXHE set to decode HDCD.  The same file played through JRMC turns my DAC's HDCD light on.  Any idea what's wrong?

Hmm ...

1. Use the Volume;
2. Use any means of upsampling;
3. Use the Normalized Volume (almost the same as #1 of course);
4. Use your sound device in a way it's not bit perfect anymore ? (I wouldn't know how with XX, but it exists per means of volume in the soundcard);
5. Use KS Special Mode and a too low latency so you will be loosing samples (which can be inaudible).
6. Use files with the HDCD flag which really are not and cannot be. Hires is the example. XX won't dig it, but your processor (DAC) may ?

but

I solved so many bugs regarding HDCD that your best bet may be that it's just a bug in the code you still use. I think I solved this all for 0.9z-3 ...

Sorry I don't have any better answers at this time Dan.

Doh!  I was using Normalize Volume.  I turned it off and the HDCD light turned on.  Thank you, Peter.   This is in my second system with an old 16/44.1 HDCD DAC.  Should I let XXHE decode the HDCD if I want to use Normalize Volume?

Yes, no problem Dan. However ... Keep in mind those so many bugs. I'm serious; Half of the time you will only think the HDCD is decoded, while it's actually not. In 0.9z-3 you can see it on the Wallpaper. It would be my suggestion not to use it until then.

But good this is solved !
