This is (or should be - depending on what you exactly mean) a matter of denoting the Data folder (Settings Area) outside of the scope of your XX installs. Thus, do not point it to the (any) XX folder, and do not make a sub folder for it in the (any) XX folder. Or summarized : make a c:\XXData and you will be good, but don't install XX in that folder.
