Title: W7 and 1.186 issues. Related???
Post by: boleary on February 13, 2014, 09:16:17 pm
Since switching to W7, using Peter's best settings (except am using SFS @ .6 otherwise tics) and, in my system, truly having the Best Sound Ever, the following issues have arisen and they "feel" like they all have something to do with processor speed:

1. Occasional tics when changing volume, two or three then the volume changes;

2. When using cover art/mirror back, inconsistent volume display after alt/u or d. Sometimes the volume display changes and sometimes not, though actual spl does in fact change;

3. When booting and then starting Alaine's awesome IMDisc
bat file, XXoften opens but shows that it started directly from the C drive instead of the A drive. Closing XX, opening Explorer and then restarting from the A drive gets me there. In W8 XX always opened from the A drive when starting Alaines bat file;

4. Once playing tracks, stopping, starting, doing the things we do which at times causes others in the house to question our sanity etc, the XXHighend letters show in either blue or gray though there is no question that the OS is in fact minimized;

5. Sometimes after starting from the IMDisc it appears to open with Engine 3 selected rather than Engine 4. Once without realizing, I played some tracks and when making some setting change realized that Engine 3 was selected. But I'm almost certain it was Engine 4 playing and it was just the GUI display that was in error.

If these issues are not related I guess they should be put in separate threads.

Okay, back to XX and enjoying this snow day off from work!

Hi Brian,

I still don't know if I will be buried under snow tonight or not... It was supposed to pass south of the region, but weather forecast is far from an exact science... How many inches have fallen on your side ?

I will check tonight if the batch file does the same here. If so, I will check for a solution, otherwise I could ask to see the content of the batch file you use, just in case...

Regards,

Alain

Thanks Alaine, we got around 12 inches from around midnight to noon, then it started to drizzle rain. They say we could get another 4-8 inches tonight with wind. With all the ice, am expecting a power outage this evening...we'll see.

Let me know if you need me to send that file.

Lets hope this mess stays south of you. Craziest NorEaster I've ever seen!

Brian, brief response for now :

The Wallpaper is considered not to be shown anywhere with my settings (in Unattended). This is not officially reported (in release Notes) but I found out myself later after releasing 1.186.
This means that it lags (for a long time, if shown/refreshed at all, but at Stop it may finally show).

The other things I don't know about (yet). About a message telling that Engine3 is in order (unjustified) - I know it from W8. So maybe W7 just the same although I did not see that yet.

Peter

Hi Peter, I don't get a message. In "Settings" the "Device" field   shows KS: Phasure blah, blah. But in the field below that it shows "Engine 3" where it should automatically show "Engine 4."
Hope this makes sense.

Hi Brian,

1 foot of snow + drizzle rain + wind... Yuk... I think the worst will pass south of here... They forecast about 8 inches where I am for tonight and tomorrow morning...

Yes please, I think you could send me your batch file so I can check it ?

Alain

Okay, where is it on the system? Might it be the icon on the desktop or is that just a shortcut? I'm not much of a computer guy.  :)

Sure hope you have a snow blower! It's sleeting like crazy right now, should turn to snow any minute.

Forgot to say that I turned cover art off and volume changes are much smoother, but still an occasional tic that's almost a pop but not quite.

Ah... Sorry for the late reply... If your batch file is on the desktop (this will work also if it is a shortcut), here is what you could do:
- Right-click on it and a menu will appear.
- In that menu there will be either an "Edit" or a "Modify"
- Click on either and the file should expand, showing its contents.
- Hold the CTRL key and while keeping it pressed, press "A" once. it should hilight the whole file
- Right-click and then select "Copy"

Finally, opening a "Reply" here, you can paste it either with a right-click and "Paste".

I will be able to see if there is something to adjust.

Sorry for the delays. Sometimes I use Teamviewer to connect on someone's PC. Maybe one day we will have a "Phasure squad" to do this :)

Alain
PS: Yes I have a snowblower - I use it to clean some corners and alleys, but for the driveway, someone comes with his snowplow, otherwise it would take at least a few hours each time...  Strangely, it has been quite cold this year, but we are having less snow than average... For the moment...

Brian, that field is just "informative" :swoon: and does nothing. If only the selected Sound Device is the proper one, then all is right there.

We have still 2 weeks or so to go for this "winter", but I think it will be the first winter in my life where I didn't see a single snow flake. Instead it rains almost every night which is very odd for us here, and I guess some people in the UK have different stories about water. The only advantage I see of that is that DACs may float automatically, but I'm not sure whether that is a preferred situation ...

:) But did you notice if it was colder than usual ? I guess not, since all fall into water.... No chemtrails in the upper atmosphere ? :) If you have only 2 weeks of winter left, you are lucky. I still think of at least 4-6 weeks...

Colder ?? I noticed 4 times of needing to de-ice my car windows all together. Max low I ever saw was maybe -1C.
I didn't hear about it yet, but I'm sure all records of warm winters will have been broken already, no matter how cold it is going to be in these next "two weeks".

With the exception of #5 above, all of my listed issues were resolved by turning off cover art and, in settings for playing unattended, checking the "Turn Monitor Off" box.
