1051  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Remote Desktop issues on: March 22, 2018, 02:12:33 pm
Hello Zheng,

First off, for some W10 OSes it won't (miraculously) work in Normal OS. So best is to try this in MinOS in the first place.

Then, if you press Clear and the Playlist Area is emptied, the OS version is shown. Is this WINNT32 in your case ? I think so. I that case something else went wrong earlier on, and XXHighEnd can not detect your OS properly any more and it will be the reason that nothing works properly any more. Now :

(I assume XXHighEnd 2.09)

In your XX folder there are OSIs*.tss files. Find the OSIsW10.tss and rename that to OSIsW10.tst
Now you should see "some" W10 version again in the Cleared Playlist Area and from there you should be able to boot into MinOS and of course have activated "Use Remote Desktop" in XXHighEnd's Settings.

I think it can be so that when you successfully could play Unattendedly in MinOS (regardless RDC) and bring up XXHighEnd, you can rename the file back to .tss and you can reboot to see that now all is fine again (and W14393.0 will show in the Cleared Playlist Area). But if not, rename back to .tst and live with it ... (I have no better idea at this moment).

Anyway, does the RDC now work ?
Please notice that to have the RDC working is nothing special if you only try it in MinOS and refer to the Audio PC by means of IP address and not the PC Name.

Let me know whether it helps !
Regards,
Peter

1053  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: XXHighEnd PC BIOS Settings on: March 22, 2018, 11:36:37 am
OK
So let me get this straight, we buy a Ferrari & tune it to run like a mini?

Jack, almost correct;

We buy a Ferrari motor, put it in a Mini which is not capable of doing 230mph because of aero dynamic constraints and poor brakes, but we will can accellerate from 0 to 60 in 1.8 seconds wich is even twice faster than the original Ferrari chassis.

This is seriously how it works and how e.g. XTweaks (in XXHighEnd settings) these days co-operate with these settings.

FYI, investigate the Stealth PC. These days that goes out with preferably an 28 core processor while tuned down to 500MHz. Say that its accelleration speed is obtained by using 28 cylinders instead of 4.

Btw in the UK there are far too many Mini's by now. It must be the best selling car ever.

Hi Zheng,

Please move this to a new topic (copy-paste); I will respond from there.
In here it is too much off topic now, OK ?
Thanks !

Hello Zheng,

I'd say that all the settings will just apply to your Z97.
They were never changed (also not over here internally).

Of course it is ~ two years ago that we formally shipped this PC but I don't think we would have changed settings anyway (no new thoughts on the matters of concern).

Hi lateboomer,

Quote
I tried to order 1 m Lush from the webshop but it didn't able to log in to Paypal to complete the payment.

That is something I never heard of. Can't it be just on your side ?

Quote
For wire transfer it needs additional details like person's name, email address and passport id.

All these details are shown on the page where you can select the wire transfer. However, when you are one step further, that data is not showing any more and you will be at a loss of what to do.

Quote
I will try it at bank's counter to do wire transfer instead of online.

Nah, that would be non-sensical. Besides you will still need the data you think you don't have. Happy

I will send you and email (to the address you registered with the forum) and you can pay to PayPal from there. OK ?

Kind regards and thanks,
Peter

A different question. Is it possible to use remote desktop and Unattended playing?

Hi Zheng,

Sure !
But it depends a bit on how your network is setup. Generally :

- Take care that you activate "Use Remore Desktop" in XXHighEnd Settings (Services section) while in Normal OS (then boot into MinOS).

- Use the IP address of your Audio playing PC and NOT the PC Name.

I think these are the important settings. But crucial for you is just knowing that it can work (you will find the how easily yourself).
Also notice that the RD functionality of each operating system can be used (IOS, OSX, Android).

Lastly, do not forget to use the XXOSK.exe (is in the XX folder) and "know" that it can size to a square plus it can be resized by means of dragging the title bar.

Kind regards,
Peter

And what happens internally I also wonder.

You are right. I found that my memory setting was on "Mixed"! Once I put it on "Contiguous", it jumps back to 4.19 unhappy

Indeed it is related to that ...

Hello ZH,

Nothing will change on the logos themselves. So yes, if the file is "natively" 192, the 192 logo will show as always.

Unless I messed up of course. swoon

Kind regards and thank you !

1060  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: MQA decoding issue on: March 19, 2018, 02:15:50 pm
When I look into the ID-tags of these flac files, I can see that the tag ORIGINALSAMPLERATE (44100 or 48000) corresponds with the audio property "sample rate", which is always the same for these wELL working MQA tracks.

When I download a MQA96 album, like the Robert Plant album in the emailed log file, with my audio PC, it is like this:
the tag ORIGINALSAMPLERATE has the value 96000, what seems to be correct. But the sample rate of these flac files is 48KHz only. It should be 96KHz too, as I believe.

So Richard, ...

Quote from: PeterSt
You never read those for me. Never adhere your own ideas about matters, or you will end up nowhere with it, OK ?

Apart from the "for me" which should read "from me" (apologies for this confusing line of text because of that), I tried to help you by means of now explicitly making what you thought could be observed in the first place.
yes
So what actually happened is that you gave me the very good idea that no decoder is required to observe the Native (in-MQA) Sampling Rate, which finally avoids all the hassle about the Music Server PC seeing something different from the Audio PC just because on either of both the decoding does not work. So from of 2.10 it will be like this :

- The Hires Audio logo will emerge based on what the ORIGINALSAPLERATE tag in the FLAC file tells us (thus exactly how you looked yourself);

- The actual MQA Decoding will take place during Playback.

Let's try to keep in mind that the MQA Decoding during Playback is depending on two major data parts :
1. The HiRes Audio logo must be present on the Coverart (when no Coverart is present or (made) visible it's an internal thing, but this is rare anyway);
2. The PC where the Playback happens must be able to Decode MQA (and for some PC's this can be a pain and virtually unsolvable unless Windows is freshly installed (not upgraded !)).

Although not easy to see, the change is major. Why and how ?
Well, because the initial enumeration of the MQA albums is not depending on the MQA Decoding any more (it was in 2.09) only one thing can fail from of 2.10 : the decoding suring Playback. This means that we van be 100% guaranteed that if Playback fails to decode MQA, it is the Playback PC not being able to Decode MQA and nothing else.

How to check this unambiguously ? Most easy description (leaving out more possibilities) :
-> Find an album with HiRes Audio logo of 96, take care that your DAC can take 24/96 for input at least, play the file and observe that after decoding - hence when playback commences for real - the input to output in XXHighEnd shows 96000 - 96000 with the little fx button (sits in between inut and output bit rate) activated and the sampling rate slider (sits in between input and output sampling rate) at 2x.

Additionally I could say that each track which has been played once (briefly) or each album which has been Prepared explicitly, will from then on show the input and output as should even without playback. But better don't pay too much attention to this because it may confuse only.

What *is* important further, is that when you have proven that the 96 decodes, any 88.2 or 48 or 192 (native output is 96 max for real anyway) or whatever, will decode too.
It will NEVER happen that a 44.1 or 48 decodes, while 96 etc. does not (which could be your easy mistake to make).

Btw, I'd say that in all cases the MQA logo at the bottom (above the [ G ] button) will testify of MQA decoding. No MQA decoding means that the MQA logo (including green or blue indicator) will not show.

After some consensus (or earlier Happy) I will try to put this in a Tutorial (in the Tutorials section) as well.

Best regards,
Peter
1061  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXhighend modification request on: March 19, 2018, 11:11:25 am
Henk,

I tried every combination I could think of (with a USB stick which I legally and illegally removed) but I just receive nice error messages (from XXHighEnd) that the path is nor available, something wrong with it, etc.
This is from the Library Area and also from the Playlist Area (tracks remain visible but can not be used and again by more than one message I am told).

What I did not (could not) test is your RAM Disk situation.

So I am afraid that if these kind of things go wrong, you need to "repair" your PC. So I tried, but what I can't mimic, can't be solved either. Plus all the error messages already ...

My 2.09 seems to stay on 5.19 without any issue!

But maybe not after Unattended playback. And what happens internally I also wonder. But if it stays after Unattended (or maybe just quit and restart XXHighEnd proves the same) then it should work for real. Watch out though : the piece of software arranging for the "even" numbers is explicit (so the even numbers ever back were on purpose) and a little bit buggy. So yes, it can stay by sheer "accident" but if you re-attempt it (change the number back and forth) you may not be able to get there again.

1063  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: No coverart with NAS on: March 18, 2018, 08:22:54 am
Hello Arvind,

Quote
It seems the problem of no cover art while playback, at least in my case, was due to corrupt image files in a few of the FLAC music folders. I deleted the image files & downloaded new ones & now it’s working fine.

Maybe. But maybe it has been a sort of rights problem. So ever back the files got there by "a" means (copied from somewhere via some means and then especially thinking about the PC (or Mac) doing it) and now you do this again in your own environment and all is fine.

Quote
However starting Explorer from the Audio PC & trying to open the image files WAV or FLAC, does not open the files.

So this is a completely different issue and btw again not FLAC related. But also no problem. So in case I got you worried, my examples about Explorer were only virtual so you could understand what internally kind of happens and how you can mimic this yourself. This though, is to some degree as we now see as working really via Explorer is more formal than what happens in a program (or how the program can be manipulative regarding this).
So no problem and don't attempt to view the images on your Audio PC. AND :
Be careful, because thinking about this, you probably won't be able to view any picture on the Audio PC by normal Windows means. This is how IrfanView ended up in the XXHighEnd folder since 209 or 2.08 (but recently). This is all related to MinOS and what 14393.0 can still do (or not do).

Anyway, problem solved. For Richard too I assume, since he doesn't seem to be compelled much to (re)join the discussion Happy Haha.

Thank you very much for your help, Arvind. And it helped yourself !

Hi Arvind,

Quote
All my rips are using dBPoweramp & the cover art image is obtained through their database.

Ehh ... you mean when you start Explorer on the Audio PCm go to the folder where the image files reside and then "they are / have to be accessed through the DBPoweramp database ?
No. That can't be right. And if it is correct then obviously XXHighEnd can't reach for the files. Envision that XXHighEnd would do the same as you do (grab the file via Explorer).

Please keep in mind : the Coverart images reside in the same folder as the music files for an album, or perhaps in a sub folder of that. Not in any different place (like JRiver could do that, but for obvious reasons no random program not knowing about that can "find" them as such). Btw, if I start to be correct about this and thus "knowing" that this never can work like this, how is it related to FLAC ?

So what am I missing ?
(or you Happy)
