Whether the music data is on hdd or NAS,

Hi Arvind,

Great that you responded. Thanks !

OK, so what do you mean with "hdd" ? To me this is apples and oranges because a hdd has to be "in" something and the least it can be "in" is in a USB enclosure. OK, more less would be in the Audio PC of which I reckon you did not do that (in your Stealth).

Don't be confused with me saying : it would be the very best if your music could be directly connected to your Stealth best, indeed. And yes, you could even put in the 2.5" hdd in your removable tray (where normally the OS-SSD sits).
And of course, copying the music to the internal C: drive (the PCjust booted from RAM, IOW don't change anything there) is as good as it gets just the same, but may seem more awkward for you and/as you must think about the space it consumes. And that you must delete it when finished.

Arvind, assumed that you too want to solve this issue (and I completely forgot about it after all this time) I think it would be the best if you (with me) try to get hold of some relevant data here, because your situation is relatively normal (Richard's is less that). So ... ready to help !!

Regards and thanks,
Peter

Hi Richard,

Quote
As I read above, other users had similar experiences until they pluged in an appropriate highres DAC into the USB port of their music server PC.

With respect (for those users), or this is BS to begin with, or it is 100% logical that one can only play Hires when an appropriate Hires DAC is used. And this is not related at all to what you see in the left pane for Input and Output sampling rate, unless in settings you told that the DAC (whatever one) only can do 48KHz (input) max (DAC Needs setting).

Quote
But the the flac files are created for 48KHz only.

That is not how it works;
There are no FLAC files created as such. They are always the same, disregarding whether they can be decoded or not. Whether they can be decoded depends on whether the decoding trial as such (which is what happens on your Tidal connected PC at observing the track on Tidal itself) succeeds. Your proof of this latter is the "96" little logo. So that succeeds.

Quote
the log file I sent you yesterday is from my music server PC.

That's what I was afraid of. But also, that is a good thing to show and prove to yourself, because it means that you obtained a version of the album which a. is MQA encoded and b. was able to decode. This is what I saw in the log file and thus can say : all looking fine. However :

What you seem to combine with that is that it *thus* also is fine on the Audio PC. Well, although for most it is fine on that PC and things fail (if they do) on the Music Server PC), with you it is the other way around. And ... it probably is because you don't think of the situation as such and thus also don't try to solve it from that angle. Also : combine this with you sending a log file and sort of in the same sentence tell that HDCD/MQA decoding is On. On what PC then ??
Simplest example of why it goes wrong on the Audio PC : don't have the XXHighEnd version in there which is even cabable of the decoding. Or, have switched off that HDCD/MQA decoding in there. Or ... whatever is happening on the Audio PC on its own, or should happen there but does not.

I am not saying that it is you explicitly doing something wrong, but thinking correctly about it is quite crucial. So ... maybe this helps you on some right track ?
I hope we can solve this !

Peter

Hi Richard,

Thank you for the log files, but I don't see much wrong in it (I see explicitly correct things).

Quote
that's the topic for the MQA decoding issue on my music PC.

This though would literally be incorrect because we have a Music Server PC and an Audio PC (the latter would be your Stealth).
So decoding is performed on the Audio PC and the Music Server PC only takes care of the Hires Audio Logo (like the "96" from the Plant album). Say that it sticks it on.
This summarized, I may wonder from which PC the log file you sent me, comes from.
Also, show me you Plant album because I want to see that logo (it does not matter from which PC you grab the coverart file, but for yourself it is best when you first see it in the Library Area so if you see the "96" logo, you can be assured the coverart file must be in there somewhere.
I think it is the least ambiguous when you only look at your Music Server PC for it (your Surface, I think).

Best regards,
Peter

There's a section in there "Space required".

Hi Richard,

I am sorry, but this all makes no sense to me. It seems that the only one who can solve this is you, by means of finding the merit of things. Also it looks that you are the only one experiencing this issue, meaning that I don't even think that Arvind suffers from this. But if he reads this I hope he will tell.

Please notice that by now "half of us" draw the music files over the network from a source elsewhere. "Music files" is the contents of a folder (plus sub folders when there). There shouldn't be a difference between NAS or "Music Server PC" in the sense that XXHighEnd doesn't know what either is. It is just a network connection and you can virtualize that a "copy command" copies them from the network source to the Audio PC. So all I can imagine is that the source doesn't let go (does not enumerate) everything and therefore it just lacks later, when needed.

My advice for now : Try to connect to a random other source on the LAN and see whether it makes a difference. Maybe not easy to set up if you actually don't have one (but it could be a laptop), but I don't know what to do otherwise anyway. Doesn't happen often but in this case it does. Sorry !

Kind regards,
Peter
1086  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / People with gmx email address ... on: March 10, 2018, 05:50:06 am
Hi,

I start to recognize that people using an email address like [MyEmailName]@gmx.[country] (country is "de" (Germany) ?) will not receive emails from sales at phasure com.

I don't know how we can solve this, but I already heard from one of you that the gmx domain causes more trouble than only not receiving emails from me. So the issue is on the gmx side ? ... not sure. But maybe a few of you can give them a call and we can sort out things together. It is quite (no, very) inconvenient, because the emails I send just don't arrive without any notice. So you ask a nice question, I even give a more nice answer, but it doesn't arrive and obviously you think I never answered. Next I think "oh well, he got angry".

Thanks,
Peter

I tried a NAS for high-resolution audio streaming but it didn't work for me, [...]

I separated your text from the quote you put in there from Gerard. So we understand who said what. Happy

Congratulations on your nice web site pages.

According to our "vision" what you propose is the exact opposite of what we adhere. Btw, personally for me this will never ever be a NAS (for the same reasons you wrote out). But connecting all to the PC playing the audio is the worst ...

Do I need 20GB, Peter?

Hi Telstar,

No. Unless you are going to work with the real higher SFS like 100+. But this is not comon any more.
12GB will do. Happy

When you want to play around with a RAM disk, then anything is possible.

Be careful with the "uneven" number of memory modules; not all MoBo's take 3 (but do take 1, 2 or 4).

- wallpaper issue for FLAC files from NAS

You may give me a reminder in the topic about that.
What I recall of it, is that I was waiting for some answer. Maybe I am completely wrong, but check it in the topic of concern to be sure. OK ?

- MQA decoding issue, when no appropriate DAC is installed (I still cannot decode MQA higher than 48kHz).

Maybe this is similar as this is not related to DACs at all but to a software decoding issue. Please find the (or a) topic about that and add a post in there.

I was using SFS 20,19 for a longer time, but I am back to 10,19 again. It sounds somehow smoother, less distorted maybe.

Thank you for sharing !

Brian, 2.06b has never been available as a patch. It was part of the 14393.0 Operating System upgrade for the RAM-OS Disk.

Your first RAM-OS Upgrade ! 14393.0.

See your email Oct 25, 2016.

By when will it be ready? I would like to test that 5.19  Happy

Hey Juan,

There is some radical new (cool) feature in 2.10 and I just finished 2 days of continuous work on solving the bugs around that feature. heat I suppose tonight's playback session will tell whether I succeeded with this bug-shooting. smirk
If so, all what remains is the Release Notes and I envision those to be written somewhere this week.

Peter

Hi Telstar,

So, looking good now !

Quote
like disable defender

There are no Anti Virus programs "allowed" anyway, or else anything can happen. And the stupid thing of Windows Defender is that it won't be there for everyone (in Minimized OS). What's the rationale there, never came to me.
So, good that you found it !

Quote
straight contiguous - I'm gonna test this.

Good. But remember that you must start playback (for a second or 2) ASAP after booting into MinOS or else the memory will be eaten (with you being low on memory). After that all is fine (but don't kill XXEngine3.exe).

Happy

Peter

SFS is mixed (cannot be changed) at 14MB max 150 (defaults).

You are mixing up a few things here. Nothing is like that - not with these numbers or nomenclature. Happy

A Max SFS of [large number] will kill you in the first place. So set that to the maximum you think you are going to use for the SFS. Like 2.00.
So if your SFS would be really on 150, nothing will play in 4GB of memory. OK ?

The only problem is, which has been discussed in the forum earlier, that after setting SFS to 5.19 & playing a track, the SFS, on its own, shifts to 4.19.

Oh, apologies !!
I have this active in my own system for so long by now that I completely forgot it is not in 2.09 yet.
Sorry for the unmeant teasing !!

Best regards,
Peter
