Also, ASIO appears to work with WASAPI turned off.

Yes, it is unlrelated. Say similar to Kernel Streaming.

1174  Ultimate Audio Playback / Getting Started / 04f | The means of albums and track selection for playback on: January 11, 2018, 10:58:43 am
This tutorial shows the means of album and track selection.

Double click Library Item

Select the Library Area by means of the [ L ] button in the top.
Double Click on an Item in the Library Area :

The Playlist area will be cleared and the item (an album in ths case) will be loaded in the Playlist Area :

Select Library Item(s) and click Load

Two Items/albums were selected here and when the Load button is used, both albums will load in the Playlist Area.
The Playlist Area will not be cleared first. So you can keep on selecting and click load again. What has been loaded will be removed from the selection.
Click empty space to remove all the selections :

or click a selected Item to unselect it.

Watch out : In Settings (under the [ S ] button in the top) there's this setting :

(see at the mouse pointer)
When this is made active (red) all clicks automatically add to selections. This is meant for remotes (like tablet) where ctrl-click to add to a selection is a less convenient matter. The unselect works also different in this case; while you normally can click any Item to unselect the others, this now does not happen and each individual item must be clicked again to unselect it. However, click in the empty area (see tw pictures back) and all is unselected at once.
When the Touch Facilities setting is active, you can also select more Items and double click a last one (see previous topic) which first clears the Playlist Area and next loads all the selected Items.

Use the Explore button

Drag from Explorer

This can *not* be done when Explorer is engaged via the Explore button. So open Explorer by normal means and drag any selection of tracks on to the Playlist Area.

Notice that in this case a (Meta Data) Gallery was used - this works out all the same as with real tracks.

You can also drag a folder or complete folder structure :

But be careful not to select a 1000 albums at a time.

Drag from another player

So notice that by this means you can use another player of your liking to select albums etc. and play them through XXHighEnd.

Load Items in the Library Area by means of Embedded Explorer

Start with selecting the Library Area by means of [ L ] in the top. Next :

Here the Abdullah Ibrahim main folder was clicked and all the Abdullah Ibrahim albums load in the Library Area. Next you can load one or more albums from there (like double click or use the Load button - see above).

Drag album from Embedded Explorer to the virtual Playlist Area

Again start with selecting the Library Area by means of [ L ] in the top. We called the Playlist Area "virtual" because it is not visible. Still, if we drag from the Embedded Explorer to the right, it will be loaded in the Playlist Area and the Playlist Area will get active.

We see (above) that already during dragging, the Library Area is replaced by the Playlist Area.

Dragging all from Abdullah Ibrahim (and more) is also possible :

Be careful not to accidentally drag a folder of a too high level (containing 1000+ albums).

Rightclick in the left pane (empty area) to show the Coverart Pane which normally shows with the Playlist Area active :

Or back to Embedded Explorer (rightclick on the picture) :

Copy-Paste from Explorer

Copy :

Paste from URL :

This is also allowed to be a folder (structure).

Notice that the copy from URL option does not allow use URL's to the sense of that implying the streaming of the track or album. However, similar *is* allowed by means of streaming from Tidal but this always requires a search (from Tidal) result first. So actually a URL from Tidal can be dropped in the Search screen, next the album is searched for on Tidal, the result shows in the Library Area and from there all works the same as explained in the text(s) above.
Tidal search is outside of the scope of this tutorial.

Thank you for sharing Juan.
I myself am not sure by now, except for that I am sure my hearing is off. Possibly that Australian flu going around ...
So if it gets quiet in here, you know what happened. swoon

You could call it dry

Arjan, dry (and short) are positives for me. It allows all to play more in its own space.
In itself this is not new (to XXHighEnd settings) but it relates to the Custom filters which inherently "blend" more. I don't think this will be noticed when going from Arc Prediction to Custom, but the other way around it sure will. It also implies for the more spacious sound, which always occurs to me when switching back to Arc Prediction. I guess this is how I liked the first hour very much, including all the crazy new (background) sounds.

The downside seems to be in the "metallic" reverberation of which I could not find the source, unless emerging in mid-air. So there's something in me that's telling that with Arc Prediction and further new behaviour and settings, there's a razor sharp delimiting of individual frequencies which collide and interact in mid air.
While this is probably some kind of whishful thinking, the other 50% of my thinking goes to audible aliasing (imaging). That this is now audible should be for the same reason, although this is also a technical (filtering thing. Still I can not detect it like being (additional) technical flaw. And a fact that it would be an acoustical thing is only good because apparently we made something audible again, that wasn't. It only should not be the wrong thing.

Btw, throughout it reminded my at my ever back "statement" that a steeldrum became very profound, with a response of Stanley (Stanray) that he always uses that instrument to test SQ. So the music seems to exhibit these kind of sounds now, as a flavour. And that would not be good. And then again, yesterday it alreasy slipped my mind that it actually was so goo all 'n all, that this steepdrum thing would be something for me to solve (somehow).

OK, if nobody recognizes this, it is/was just me.

Hey ...

All,
and now try Arc Prediction...
regards

Hmm ... Might it happen that we all like this, then it could be that we are all subject to damaged ears, OR we just don't understand what to listen for any more. Well, something like that.
My experience from yesterday :

For a first hour I kept on noticing how dry and short the sound was compared to my Custom 705600 "Mid" setting which I use for the past 4 weeks or so. So, good.

Then I ran into a first album of which I thought that the metal reverberance sounded like something which is broken.

Once recognizing this sound, I kept on hearing it in everything, but without being sure whether something sounds (oscillating) broken, or whether I need to re-learn to listen.

This was all with more commercial music which should not sound very special. Still it did. So actually I am looking forward to tonight's listening session where I will play my regular test-signal music. It should be way wrong or jaw dropping good.
Maybe my ears had an offset yesterday. Happy

Does anyone recognize something of this ? The sound is suddenly completely different and it slipped through my mind that I wanted to tell you I had new amps and new speakers. And probably a new DAC. Completely unrecognizable, but still in a fashion that I suspect to be able to decide it is not wrong. That takes more days of listening though.

Thanks !
Peter

OK, going to try that too, right now ...
(with the lower SFS numbers I liked it for the better for a while, but this was with 2.08, I think).

1180  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Message " Straight Contiguous Memory Allocation error 3-Lower SFS..." on: January 02, 2018, 08:59:29 am
Hi Johan,

I can't tell what you suffer from.
What I implied to say in my previous post is that you should lower the Max SFS. So if you use ~20 for your SFS, set Max SFS to the maximum you will allow yourself toying with. So if that is 30 for the forseable (boot) future, set Max SFS to 30.

Now you have at least quite a lot more memory available.

I am pretty sure you cause the system to have too few memory available, and then have XXEngine3.exe be killed by one or the other reason (can be something which goes wrong, with for example the Crack Detect being tripped - you will always get some sort of message). If now the system is eager for memory, it will right away occupy the contiguous space XXEngine3.exe *had* allocated, and then you're done.

Does lowering the Max SFS help ?

Peter

Hi Charlie,

That dreaded message is already out (for 2.10). So no worries about that.

I can't run WASAPI on my system.  Hopefully I can run it if I reboot.

You'd have to go to Normal OS, set it active in there and reboot to MinOS. Then it will work again.

Good that there's progress !

Brian,

If you can still mimic your situation (and we must assume that) please do that once again and tell me the how to. So far I can't do it.

Thanks,
