61  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Short interruptions in playback en very tiny hickups since y3 and y4 on: October 25, 2009, 12:51:59 pm
Hi Peter,

Thanks for your thoughts!
My other pc , still on Vista, gives the same problems. It was the main reason to make a totally new setup on a different comp. Although I didn't look for solutions until now.
For y3 and 4 I did not use my nos-dac since I can't work on higher res. than 16/44(48). The NOS-dac is the USB dddac from Doede.(36dacs in parallel, battery powered).
I dont use it for the moment.
The other computer, on Vista, Works with a PCI-card as well. The Prodigy HD2. 24/192 too.
On the W7 computer program and music in not on the same disc anymore. To seperate discs on resp. sata 0 and 1.
Yes, I tried changing Core app. too, without succes. I did switch Services off.(checked) Problems exist on both Attended and Unattended. And No, I don't remember any ticks or stops of the same kind on older versions.
Btw, I experienced one( only one) more halt of half a second for the last listening hours since Yesterday!
This for now, try to find out more,
Thanks again Peter, for now I have to sit down and undergo: " XXMusical treatment", with capital TREAT!
Bye for now,

Ed
62  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Short interruptions in playback en very tiny hickups since y3 and y4 on: October 24, 2009, 08:11:19 pm
Hi Peter ,

Since the last two versions I had a lot of sound-interruptions. Playing stopped regularly for one to sometimes eight seconds. Sometimes more than once per track.
After fiddling around with the settings, I invented that it stopped after having unchecked :"running time OSD." and "OSD text".
The only things ,I think until now, that have left are very tiny hickups.  On an irregular and rare base. Must say very small. I could maybe live with it and it could be possibly corrupted files!
Hope this information is of any use for you,
Ed
63  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: CD or DVD(sound) playback by XXhighend and recording with XXHE. on: August 25, 2009, 01:16:47 am
Yes, normal "live recording". No, this is not the same as recording a CD (if I get what you mean by that). It is about what you see below (although you will have found that yourself I'm sure) with the main facility that XXHighEnd records herself, passing through the bits similarly as how I push them out as accurately as possibe. I guess this is no big deal for any recording software, but here too counts : when you record in 24/96 it should not get resampled underway the path from the ADC to the disk.

To be honest Ed, I wouldn't wait until this is fully operational in XXHighEnd. The waiting may get too long. Happy
Peter

Hi Peter,

Yeah, what happens in about al the recording-software I know and have worked with, while recording 24/96 it will be resampled to 32/96.
Maybe I can find a more simple way to put the stuff on the disk. I don't like the resampling, unless when burning a CD from it, I will have to downsample. But I prefer playing back my recordings untouched for my private use. And there is where XXHE comes in!
So, I'll wait for the cd-playback and recording thing and forget about the rest!
Thanks for your swift replies,

Ed love this

Hi Ed,

0.9y was ever meant for both recording and playing CDs directly. I got stuck with both though, because from one came the other, and before I knew I was over my head in derivals from it. So :

- Recording just works, if I only activate it *and* provide some neat means to save the tracks, appoint names to them and the like. All is in there, but meant for analysis, which comes down to using more technical track names, them always being saved in the same folder.

- Playback of CDs does not work yet. As you may recall I wanted both that and ripping to be the same internal function, so I started with ripping. Spent quite some days on that and a program with the outlines is there, though not tested for a single bit-rip. Still plan that for 0.9y somewhere though.

Not much you can do with right now ...

Btw, nice that Atom !

Peter

Thanks Peter, I can wait.!
On the other hand, with recording, I meant making live-recordings " in the field" using XXHE. But I think it will, after passing the ADC, go the same route as recording a CD. Correct me if I am wrong. The analog mixer signal will be converted in the souncard.
But ok, I'll have to wait a bit.

65  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / CD or DVD(sound) playback by XXhighend and recording with XXHE. on: August 24, 2009, 08:13:53 pm
 :(Hi Peter,

I am blushing a litlle putting this question. (playing CD's with XXHE hahaha!)
But here is my story. Today I finished putting a second, very compact (Noah case), dedicated, what is dedicated, pc together. Firstly as a means of live-recording and secondly for use as musicplayer machine upstairs.
Build on cheap intel board, Atom230 1.6gig, W7 64bits Ultimate. Two gig ram.
The thing flies like an angle. Not fast, but i can live with it, for now.
Since there was space for a cd-player inside the cabinet, I completed it with a laptopkind cd/recorder/dvd player.
So I can rip-on-the-spot, make a copy of tracks, and playback in one stroke.
As sounddivice I use the new ASUS XONAR ESSENCE ST Pci intern card. It does it about all, including high resolution recording (up to 192\24) in a very respectable HQ. You where talking the other day about recording with XXHE, so here I am. Maybe I have to start another thread for this?
But yes, I am interessed knowing more about that.
My initial question however refers to playing back CD's.
Is there a way doing this by using XXHE? When I try to do so I get the message that the music has to be in a folder. That I can understand but I didn't manage to get it going. So I am stuck to the Windows Mediaplayer, what I really don't fancy.
I will not use it a lot but IF there is a way, I hope you can give me a helping hand.
And thanks again for the beautyful player!!

Well I tried a couple of things. The first one is Verdana. But I don't like it. Not fragile enough. Too crowded as well.
I, for now, stick to the second one.

I agree with Lydmekk and JohanZ, Peter.
Verdana is much better readable from a distance for my older eyes! For you it's messy maybe, for me it's the opposite.
I'am affraid people see different like they hear different maybe?
I hope for the better....for us at last.
SOUND is the best I ever experienced from a computer. Maybe even in general.
Thanks.

Hi Paul,

I see you put your "Volumeslider" to -144db. Move the slider to the highest position or at least to -6db, and I think it will work

Succes,

68  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: World's first NOS 24/192 filterless DAC ? on: December 23, 2008, 12:41:27 pm
Hi Ed,

Things worked out differently from what I planned.

Morning, Peter,

I will keep my attention on your progressings.
I must say, I am really satisfied with my own DAC (so far!). I have built, about two years ago, the Doede Douma Dac DDDac version two. The same one  Leifcristensen has. Mine is USB and battery-powered.
The reason I am looking around is, I can only play-back 44/16 files.
Since I am a llifetime-liverecording enthausiast and and do my recordings (orchestral and choir) ,for the last eight years or so on hard-disk 96/32, I need a really good way of playing back those files as well without the need rebuilding them to 44/16, as you will understand.
The things I am using now for that matter are the prodigy HD2 soundcard(intern), or the M-audio USB(extern).
I am looking for a better solution!
But......since it's all DIY and hobbying, for the sake of good musical audio reproduction, low cost investments are always a preference!

Enjoy your music,

Ed

"I will build the DAC next Saturday, and I will be using that powerful PSU ... (but I have the IVY as well).
So, may you be able to find an internet connection any 8 hours after Saturday ... I will post the results here of course.
But I'm not sure yet how it can be better than what I have right now hahaha."

Hi Peter,

You ventilated your thoughts about completing the Buffalo last Saturday
I am just curious about the progress with your Buffalo and Ivy. Looking forward to your esteemed thoughts referring to the two items, maybe with its standard powersupply. Hope you share with us what your planning to mail to Leifchristensen about your findings?
Thanks for the beautifull player btw!
