13381  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9x-5 on: March 23, 2009, 06:00:10 pm
no scheme gives me small interruptions in playback!?!

Leif,

It only now is apparent to me that I defaulted the Running Time to On (the checkbox for it) while Stopping the Services is defaulted to Off, which is what you might be using. I can't be sure about that of course, but by now people sufficiently reported that this combination is no good. So, in the next version the Running Time will not be allowed anymore without stopped services, as it won't be allowed anymore to have the Running Time shown when XXHighEnd is brought up while playback is going on (which in the end comes down to the same principle because when XXHighEnd is visible the services will be running again).

This "protection" will be active in the next version.

hehehe

Welcome !

Shouldn't Linux users be banned in advance ? one never knows what harm they can cause to a Windows PC ... Happy

Anyway ...
First of all, I don't think I saw a Weiss user around here yet. So, I can't judge that one, and I know of at least one DAC which can't be addressed by WASAPI. But let's not assume it is this that what is bugging you.
Firewire for sure can be used, and many people here do that (many = ten(th)s of them). All will be using a Fireface though, and I am one of them.

What is not transparant at all, is how to use Firewire in this case. Right now I can't tell how familair you are with that, but in the end the least it will be able to support is ... SPDIF. But, other transport layers like (8 channel) ADAT just work as well. So it can't be that.
In any case you should be seeing the enabled SPDIF or ADAT devices in the Sound Device list (Settings Area, and it works with 0.9x-5b only; otherwise the device concerned has to be set to the Primary Sound Device).

Now, you actually did not tell *why* you think XX does not recognize the devices you want to use, or how it expresses. So, possibly they do show up in the list I talked about, and something else is the matter (like no sound, or end point create failed message).
If the first ... see above, if the latter, you could post a Dac Test report (Dac Test is the one but last option in the "DAC Is" combobox in the Settings Area). Play the DAC Test with a 16/44.1 WAV file.

Now, let's see where this will bring us !

13383  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Autohotkey on: March 23, 2009, 01:05:50 pm
Hmm ... you may be having a good point here. For me too, the shortcuts often don't work. I couldn't find a pattern. BUT, this is about Attended Playback, and I actually never use it. Or IOW, I think it is less important. With Unattended Playback the hotkeys work unconditionally (to my findings).

But now I wonder, whether indeed it will help when the Enter key is added to the simulated keypresses (you can see them in the XX.ahk file). I Guess they will. BUT ... be careful. When the Alt-P etc. by itself already works, the Enter will be adding something somewhere, in the case of Alt-P most probably a second press of the Play button. On this matter it may be a better idea to let give AutoHotky the focus to a button (not more) and *then* simulate Enter. I myself currently don't know how to give the focus only, but that is to find out then.

Thanks !
Peter

By now, please put your settings and configuration in your signature. This is very convenient at judging problems (I know you listed it earlier in this thread, but anyway).

On a side note, it is not "allowed" to have the running time at Attended Playback. As far as I can see now, most people receive problems from that. So, Running Time means Unattended Playback only (which was the recommendation anyway).

Then, try to dedicate real time priority to your playback (the one which denotes "higher", and "lowest" to the remainder (the one denoting "lower"). In the Settings Area btw.

Let's hope that helps.

If not, try the DPC Latency Checker. You can search for it in this forum, and Google will bring you to the download of it easily.
This may tell you what is wrong for theories.

y.w.i.m.c. Happy

But from that you can see how stupidly those services influence ...

My own observations with the SQ of 0.9x-5b :

I think Leif and Tony can very well be right;
Last night I played at 0/0/0/0 but this time I used familiar material. Man, the dynamics seem to blow off the roof here !
But I'm not sure yet whether I find it too much ...

The most occurring to me was that I listened to a stupid Dire Straits album, and that at first the shivers boiled down from my stomache to my knees (there they stop somehow Happy) and furthermore I couldn't stop having tears in my eyes for the last 5 tracks or so of that album.

With Dire Straits ??

I have the feeling never to touch that software again now ...
But maybe I'm wrong and just had a good mood ?
13387  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Windows Start icon on screen in XXHE 0.9x-5 on: March 23, 2009, 08:45:09 am
Johan, although I never saw the combination myself, I learned that because of actually wrong settings I could do (like in 0.9x-5 actually happened) the PC is confused until a reboot. So, please reboot the PC (if you did not already), and try again. Do not run 0.9x-5 anymore, because it will destroy again.

Does that help ?

If not, I currently have no further ideas. scratching
Btw, it works at Unattended only, but I guess you know that.

Yes it is true, but the taskbar shouldn't show anyway. I just did not think of it. So :

With the Volume-change an Invert change I did think of it, because that's seemless playback. Indeed with things like Next it is not (seemless) but there is now reason the taskbar showing/hiding (and activating / deactivating services) should occur. It just can be avoided and I didn't think of that. Will be solved in the next version.

So you have everything but the Start Button ? swoon

Did anything change for you compared to the original 0.9x-5 ?
13390  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Windows Start icon on screen in XXHE 0.9x-5 on: March 22, 2009, 07:44:36 pm
This is solved now in 0.9x-5b.
13391  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: .9x-5---No Sound on: March 22, 2009, 07:43:47 pm
The No Sound issue is now solved in 0.9x-5b.

(Johan, I am not sure what you are saying  Happy)
13392  Ultimate Audio Playback / Download Area and Release Notes / XXHighEnd Model 0.9x-5b (solves No Sound issue and Taskbar anomalies) on: March 22, 2009, 07:38:16 pm
Thanks to everybody helping to make clear what happend, these both things have now been solved.

For those who never read the Release Notes on 0.9x-5, here's a small repeat of an important part :

Very important : Only when AutoHotkey has been installed, and is at least working to the extend XXHighEnd can be startup with a hotkey (default is Alt-X), it is allowed to tick this checkbox. See AutoHotkey Install. When this is not done, hence XXHighEnd can not be brought up with a hotkey, at Unattended Payback - no desktop icons will be visible, no Taskbar will be there, no Startbutton will be around ... nothing. So, you will not be able to do anything, except for listening out the playlist concerned, and wait until that finishes and XXHighEnd will popup automatically, which by itself will bring back everything.
A reboot is a solution as well. yes

This all sounds more dangerously than it really is, and with the hotkeys available there is really nothing to fear.
And remember the objective : better Sound Quality.

Edit : Some have reported that the Sound Device again can not be properly selected. For those with these problems, please go here : Re: Spdif digital out only???. Please note that right now it has not been determined that this helps.

Edit2 : As it turns out know, larger problems seem to be present in this version. If you are new to XXhighEnd, please don't use this version, and use 0.9x-4 instead.
13393  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: clicks and pops on: March 22, 2009, 07:28:15 pm
Oh help ... a laptop ... and a Dell one.
At this moment I can't say anything else. However, it is still very unusual.

Right now, try each of the Processor Core Appointment Schemes (Settings Area). Pray that helps you.
If not, we'll see further !

Below is a new combo (0.9x-5a) XXHighEnd.exe - XXEngine3.exe. Unzip it over your current 0.9x-5 folder and let me know whether it helps.

It should ...
