Title: DAC-Magic not playing in 0.9y-6
Post by: JoaquinM on February 22, 2010, 05:44:40 pm
Well, after the success of 0.9y5-06, now with 09.y6 I have to report that I am getting no sound through USB to my DAC-Magic. The program reports a failure.

I have checked the SPDIF connection as well (I usually avoid it as it goes through my SoundMax sound card that forces resampling to 48k), and the sound is just horrible noise-glitches.

 :(

Hi Joaquin,

I don't get this, and the only thing I can imagine is that before it worked with different Double/Quad settings. Something like (what I see now) it can't use 16/44.1 but it can use 24/88.2 or possibly even 24/44.1 (which would happen at a > 16 bits DAC and the Digital Volume not being at max).

AFAIK the code hasn't changed a bit in this area.
So, this is about the device not accepting 16/44.1.

Now, please dig into your own experiences, because (IIRC) first you had this same, next you didn't have it but you had no sound (which was about USB not being supported properly and I don't recall I changed the code for the matching sample rate) and now you have this again (and again this code wasn't changed). Can't this specific error not be you somehow ? A switch on the DAC maybe ?
Does the previous version still work ? if yes, can you post the X3PB log file of that too please ?

:scratching:

Hi Peter,

I am also getting a lot of distortion with 9y-6 #4 with my Off Ramp/Overdrive DAC. Tried to change the Q1 settings from 0 to 15 but the distortion persists. What could be the problem?

Hi Peter,

With Special Mode I was getting the distortion. On Normal Mode it is working fine. Thanks.

Ok, good. But notice that the total Q1 range for Special Mode spans from 1 to 8192 (achieved by 32 samples Device Buffer choice up to 4096 -> I hope you understand what I mean).

Sorry for the late answer:

After various tries, I have found that normal mode does indeed work with the new version. The problem is special mode: if I try it, it doesn´t work and then not even normal mode works unless I reboot the PC. The fact is that, once I try special mode, the computer becomes unstable, even with HighEnd closed, making clicking noises once in a while, so I have to reboot.

Is there a way that I can make Special mode to work in my PC?

What is the recomended setting of Q1 when in Normal mode?

Thanks,

Joaquin

Ok, rather important question first :

When you're in the stage of needing a reboot, are you sure XXEngine3.exe is not running anymore ? (see TaskManager, Processes). I think it does. And if so, I recognize the problem ...

Let me know !
