Title: network discovery switches off in MinOS
Post by: manisandher on April 06, 2018, 11:49:53 am
I need to keep 'network discovery' on in order to use Roon/HQPlayer in my office system. As soon as I switch to MinOS, I lose network discovery. I try to switch it back on (still in MinOS), but the "on" doesn't stick and just reverts back to "off", even after I click "save change".

Just doing a quick Google, it seems the following services need to stay on for network discovery:
- DNS Client
- SSDP Discovery
- UPnP Device Host
- Function Discovery Resource Publication
- TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper

I can try adding these to 'Keep this service' in XX and see what happens, but thought I'd post this first.

I've never had to do any of this stuff in the past to get Roon/HQP working, and just wondered if MinOS is now killing more network services than it used to?

Mani.

Hi Mani,

I know of nothing. Nothing changed ...
Besides, what you describe is about the intentional way of working. It is like that for XX years ... :)

Maybe set it all up under normal OS and then hop to MinOS ?
Or do what you suggested ...

Regards,
Peter

It's strange - network discovery has always worked OK in the past here in my office system. And it still works fine in my main system (haven't upgraded to 2.10 there yet!).

A couple of other strange things going on that I thought I'd share:

- in Normal OS, the sound device doesn't doesn't show (it sometimes comes up after a reboot, but sometimes doesn't)
- when I right-click on 'stop' to reboot (or whatever), I get a strange message (after clicking OK, I can click reboot (or whatever) and it works fine)

Will play around with a few things and report back.

Edit: right-clicking on sound device shows the NOS1, but not the 'advanced tab'

This is the same issue (??) as dealt with in the HQPlayer topic ...

I've just had a look and I don't think it is the same issue.

To be clear:
- XX works perfectly in Normal and MinOS
- HQP works perfectly in Normal and MinOS
- Roon->HQP works perfectly in Normal OS, but not in MinOS, because network discovery gets switched "off" and Roon can no longer see HQP

Nope, didn't work.

Think I'll give up for today, and just stay in Normal OS for now.

I am just thinking... This might sound strange but somehow I find it to be related to the issue of RD session to an audio PC in minOS. The RD session would freeze during XX playback and never restored until a force reboot. We solved the issue by eliminating Gateway number in ethernet adaptor property in win10.

Now I don't know exactly how Roon connects to HQP. I am just wondering if the same trick can be used on PC with Roon (leaving gateway blank) to see if it will connect to HQP in minOS. Maybe try to specify local IP number instead of network ID in Roon to identify HQP.

Call me crazy...  :(

Hi Zheng, remember, Roon and HQP were working perfectly before I attempted the 2.10 upgrade.

I'm pretty certain the issue is that network discovery gets switched off in MinOS now, and I can't find a way to switch it on again that actually remains (it keeps reverting back to "off").

There are other issues when I go into 2.10 MinOS (see next post) that suggest to me that something went quite wrong when I unzipped the 2.10 patch over 2.09, whilst remaining in 2.09 MinOS, and also not ensuring that Engine3 and Hotkeys were inactive (as the release notes warn).

A lesson for me!

But I'll get it sorted, even if it means I have to start with a fresh 14393  again.

A couple of 'conversion' errors in MinOS may give some clues. Here, I've simply pressed Play, with Unattended selected. Clicking 'OK' to these errors, Unattended play starts... but the desktop remains throughout (doesn't go blank).

Mani, what about unblocking all .exes in there ? (the ones you received via the UpgradePatch).

Thanks Peter. Yes, unblocking all the .exes has certainly helped. Roon->HQP seems to be working fine in MinOS.

The only outstanding issue is that when I attempt to play XX in Unattended, I still get the two 'conversion 1a and 2a' errors before playback starts. Clicking 'OK' both times seems to do the job and Unattended play works as normal (with screen going blank).

Other than that, all good!

Mani, that is a bit vague.
Do you have a screenshot for me ?

Thanks,

Ah, in the Title bar. I didn't look there ...
But I can't do much with that. I recognize it though.

It feels a bit like the under the hood messages "Do you want to run this program Yes/No", and "Show this message the next time ?". So it can be that this failed at the install (because being blocked) and now won't work any more.

For my fun : put the below in your XX folder and rightclick on the Pause button. Does this pop up such a program ? (always denote "Run" and "Don't show next time", if it does).

'All Passed'. But the 1a and 2a errors still remain when I go to Unattended play.

Really not a big deal, seeing as it's my office system...

Mani,

There's a CopPref.bat file in your XX folder. Is that maybe blocked as well ?

Thanks Peter. That seems to have done the trick.

Now all good!

Cheers, Mani.
