46  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / #3 engine stopped working on: October 11, 2007, 09:09:58 pm
Ooooops

9M-1 is not yet complete.

I had several #3 enginge stopped working pop-ups. Restart Vista.

Now to me it seems what's provoking it, is that *I* am provoking it.

Interrupting a playlist keeping one track still hanging and playing, and stop that to load a new playlist does the job f*****g up Fista.

Now I experience glitches from time to time as well.

Beside that anoing thing, the XX is peaking  very happy

Ciao Biker

It sounds promissing Chris.

I have still tears left to cry here and can't wait.  biglol

I hesitate as I will have my new 6 TB stacker running tonight and didn't want to one-core my Labtop for just the few hours it has left on my shelf.

Will join this topic when things are up running.

So long..

Hahaha, nice trick.

I must say, you're not much original now.  naughty

Hihaa... Yep that was a little LOL.

Let me see if I can find a more original Avatar than the moron on this pic. Ahhh...let him stay there for while.
He likes to show off.  grazy

I've been watching CNN for the last couple of days, but saw nothing. Well, nothing that looks like your face. Happy

But do you mean an avatar ? If so, that can be 65x65 pixels only. I think it is so that when it's larger it just does not show up (or is thrown away).

Aha...yeah.... I think I threw a little bit to much pixels into the machine.

Should my face show up at CNN, don't worry it would be the face looking like an Avatar.  Happy

Hi Chris

I run -4 at all times now. But unchecked "reverse". At Q1=0 I prefere the "reverse" checked.

However -4 is really squeezing the FF or DAC to it's utmost. It happens from time to time the sound suddently starts to distort enourmuosly. I just press the playbutton once more and it goes on normally.

So a graduator with max 10 incrediments between 0 and -4 would be OK. Going -5 would likely result in a totally chrash.

WOW ...

Gerner, yes, infinite resolution ... something like that.
I was just told (off line) to step to -3. I'm scared ...

What I will do, since for "us" this seems to work very well :

I will introduce a "fine res checkbox", that will allow for a say, chosen -2, to have 30 gradations within that.
I don't want to be responsible for PCs on fire, okay ?

Yes Peter...OK here. too much ! too much ! too much !

Was just to post about it. Graduate 0 - -4 to many incrediments.

We will then see who protest... aggressive

Hey Peter

In our profiles we have a possibility to upload a picture. Having done that, where does it show?

On CNN?  Grin

56  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / The Q1 and it's mystery on: September 20, 2007, 11:02:33 am
Dear all...

Well to my big surprice I found a very interesting setting of the Q1 last night.

In this topic http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=191.msg1097;topicseen#msg1097 I quoted the following:

Could I wish for more? Perhaps...what would it be then? Hmmm...I'm not sure how to put it:

Without giving up the open spaciousness and the resolving power the player has, a tad more focus on the timbre: The inside the music details inner handshake that leads to the close to live music sound. This 5th element thing that ties everything together and leaves you believing this is really the live musicians I have standing there in front of you.
The Q1 cannot do that job for me. If it's a job at all to deal with?

Previous trials with the Q1 told me to stop at level 0, as under this level my FireFace freaked out in a way that it completely screwed funny Vista into block-mode. Only hitting the OFF button on my LT could release it from the froozen situation and 2 reboots it took the get it normal again.

Well having currage enough to try it once more I now dragged the Q1 toward the - range. No settings there interupted anything anymore? Even running the RME at 48 samples.

But what I found was what I was looking for and best was at Q1=-2.

Here it all ends up in abundance of integrety and wholeness. A magic healing up of the pixels in the sound leaning much more towards analogue play-back than ever before. Read: Infinite pixels.

Now I am aware that I propably are playing with jitter patterns, but however it comes, it comes.

Please guys who use the same chain as I do, try it out and tell me about your observations.

List List List...he he..

Yeah now I see it, but I think I can say when editting my post before posting it, it were not visible in this writing window? If I choose to "modify" after posting...yes then it's there, but not alowing me to edit further, at that moment??

When you touch the "XX can do a lot (read un-do a lot) until the signal sees the DAC".... yes, that must be the end of it. From there it's not up to the XX....unless you go DSP'ing everything to peoples personal taste...and still the signal end up at the DAC in use.

I see along the way the the XX were perfectionized showing lesser and lesser jitter, and the lesser of it the more human it became. 9K the absolute winner of them all.

Interesting that you address the dispertion of the jitter (left) has to do with our perception of the digital sound becoming analogue. I mean, more like real life sounds.
The key must then be to eliminate what is left of it, if possible, and then. Bingo...Ultimate version 1.0 !

If removing the eventual remains of jitter, no matter how it's spread all over the frequency range, is resulting in another math used in the XX. Well I think then it is likely to change the whole XX math being the result and starting from scratch would be the measure here?

Well, you the expert Peter, may laugh here as I don't know anything about it. I don't know if there is a jitter free world inside the digi-universe? One thing I know is that many engineers have tried to hunt this Gordian Knod down in many ways....without really acheiveing what they aimed at. Without really having solved the problem, and for sure the marketing of eventual improvements did waste a lot of nice leaflets and brochures. Zillions of km2's of paper were used to rave about it in magazines and tons of components and metal boxes were produced to let people be able to buy the products and learn by them selves.

So the approach to acheive it might be a result of different thinking?

        Hello nerds...

Well this time it took me quite some time to grap the keyboard and spill nice words all over the place here.

Normally I'm not that slow to pull the trigger when improvements enters my audio world. This time were an exception.

This was all due to some "try to go back" and see what you had then and what you have now tests.

So when the 9K landed here:

      • I tried out the 9K towards all past versions. No camparison here. 9K had the openess so defined in most XX-versions, but now with a much higher contend and richer glow and boddy to the music. Yes, the cello got the boddy back and the harmonics are shining or singing if you like. Hardly any digital dirt left now.

      • I now went to see how 9K make it up to Foodbar set to Kernel Streaming. RME 96 samples. Well the last feature (KS) certainly is an improvement to Foobar which came alive not sounding far as dull as previous versions. Still Foobar is a "warm" player and fine rounded up. But 9K kills it on resolution and spaciousness

      • So why not try all players available against my CD spinner. The old over-tweaked TEAC P-700? Oh well yes, there I have the source. The naked CD's as you buy them....before ripping and everything. And certainly the CD's have some information to tell us, are sort of in balance with them selves, but what a dirty grainy sound. Pfew...

So all this flip-flopping between the sound sources was a good trial to hear if XX is still on track and aiming at Ultimate.

And certainly with 9K it is, must be close to Ultimate (not addressing all the bugs inside it). Hahaha..

It is the all star version until so far and relaxed musical enjoyment is at it's highest ever.

We have to remeber we all have so many different speakers, amps, dac's etc.... that it is becomming harder and harder to tell excactly who's the "sinner".

For your info I use #3 Vista Q1=0, phase checked, ThreadPrio Real Time, RME 48 samples, FW to FF SPDIF to nos-dac....that's it.

Oh..BTW congrat me for my new 2 x 3TB PC station. What a tower... swoon swoon swoon swoon swoon swoon swoon swoon swoon

      I think that's all.

Thanks Peter for once more adding quality time to the rest of my life.

      Hi Peter,

During listening to the 0.9k version I have got two times a dotnet error message. See attachment. Music was still playing. I have not seen this error in any other version of XX.

      Regards, Johan

Me have that too....not too often....but too....
Thanks for reminding me of this Johan.

Well still the music goes on regardless the error.

For Vista 1GB ... it is the minimum. I mean, without loading WAV files it already would be.

But, your culprit will be more in the area of the HDDs which might have fallen asleep. I don't know though whether that can be the case in your sitution. If you can find power management properties for your *internal* harddisk (somewhere) you'd know what to look for with the USB (?) disks. Do find things in this sequence because if there's no power management possible for the USB (?) disks, you won't see anything. So you'd have to see how it looks like first (on the internal HDD).

Note that -if this indeed is the culprit- I could extend the "waiting time" for the data, but in the end this does not help you. It will imply "no gapless", which is not what you'd want. So you just have to solve the problem.
By heart, the current waiting time is 9 seconds or so, and this 9 seconds includes the full loading of the track. Thus, if that would take (for e.g. a full CD = 700MB) more, then you won't overcome the problem anyway. But since it happens with 25MB tracks also, it must be something like described in the above.
Btw, note that the message that Engine#3 did not start in the expected time appears 60 seconds after the first attempt. This is inconsistent with the 9 seconds mentioned earlier, but the 60 seconds is there because there can be other reasons for a wait time longer than 9 seconds, not related to your problem. So this is just background informattion.

      Peter

      Hi Peter

Got more speed here with GigabitEthernet, but it did not change anything.

The #3 engine just reports it stopped because it didn't receive date in expected time.

I will now have to follow your advice too look for what happened in the HDD's. Did they fall to sleep due the tracks were too boring music?
