Title: no Engine3 under Windows 7
Post by: Leon on October 25, 2009, 04:49:12 pm
Hi Peter,

I installed Windows 7 today and found something odd with XXH. The player won't produce sound under engine 3. It does with Engine 2 or with Engine 1.
If I choose for the PC's loudspeaker as the output device, I can use Engine 3 again, but as soon as I go for the USB output device again it will only produce sound if I then change the Engine into 2 or 1.

XXHighend seemt to be the only app which is having problems with sending the sound through the USB device. Any thoughts on what I can do?

Regards

Leon

Hey Leon,

I see no reason. Unless the volume slider is still down.
(I know, you have thought of that for 100% sure)

You may try to make the USB device you want to use - the Primary Device, choose that, and retry. It shouldn't differ, but far away I think it can.

Does Foobar WASAPI work ?

Hi Peter,

I tried putting the Primairy Device without any luck and yes I checked the volume slider.
I don't know about foobar cause I haven't installed that, I can use Media Monkey or iTunes without problems though.

Also tried older versions of XXHighend but they won't play either.
I just tried to switch the engine to Engine 2 or 1 again and now the system says : Failure Not enough System Resources (memory ?) that's a new one.

I hope you can think of anything I could do or check.

ciao for now
Leon

Hi again,

Just fiddled around with the Q1 and I learned that having the slide anywhere above 10 would lead to no sound or stottering sound.
Now you might remember I put the slide of Q1 high because otherwise the player would make kind of statical noise.

So I put Q1 now at 10 and see how the player reacts while listening a little longer. I'll keep you posted

Leon

Hi Leon,

So what you're saying is that where before your Q1 was at e.g. 14 it played, while now it doesn't make sound at all anymore, and the only difference is the OS ? (and it is not caused by 0.9y-4 ??)

That doesn't look good to me ...

Can you tell me what connection you exactly use, soundcard, DAC ?
You may put it in your sig if you want, that is always convenient for a next time.

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Yes that is exactly what happened, I only changed the OS.
I brought back the SG1 to 4 now and it playes without any noise.
There is however a new phenomenon (to me that is), which is that every now and then there is a very short break in the music.
It is not a regular patter so not every minute, but just happens. it occurs on a very low frequentie so not really disturbing but I though you might wanted to know.

Apart from that I enjoyed listening to Verdi's Requim last night and couldn't bring myself to lower the volume, so much I appreciated the SQ  :)

I changed my profile to let the specs be included, but it doesn't show yet. so just to be sure here are these specs:
Windows 7, AMD Turion, X@ Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-80 2.10 GHz, 3G RAM. 32-bits
Output USB  to music system through XMod external soundcard no DAC

regards
Leon

Thank you for mentioning this Leon. You're not the only one ...
