Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Review of Nicks Tweeks

Hi all,
I agonized over the tweaks a lot and most of them are really effective and of exceptional value. But the success depends much on the individual hardware. Looking ahead there should be hardware which is reduced to the essential functions, which avoids the use of multi-purpose ICs and switching PSUs as used in modern PCs. But that's a matter of time and money and a dream actually. If the actual tweaks are helping so much what could be possible with specialized hardware?

Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: PCIe USB 3.0 host card

Hi Nick, hi Juan,
actually I'm switching from Juli to USB transport. I ordered the same card as Nick and I am using the same driver and disabled the Mobo USB 2. The chain is: USB 3.0, standard USB 2.0 cable as used in recording studios, USB 2.0 Hub (cut the 5 V and replaced by battery), pluging Hiface via male-male adapter directly into the battery powered DAC. It's a remarkable evolution in musical details.

Hi all USB aficionados, I tried to follow the discussion and try to summarize for me: - Don't mix up active devices with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. Decide for one of them.
- If using USB 3.0 it's not recommended to connect DAC and Harddisk to the same controller
- If adding USB 3.0 PCIe cards take two separate ones if you like to connect DAC and harddisk to USB
Is that right? Georg

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Help my DAC synchronizing
|
on: January 19, 2012, 09:22:32 pm

Sometimes my DAC has problems to synchronize with the incoming signal (SPDIF) timely and a small part of the track is missing. XXHighend should be able to add a configurable synchronizing sequence added in front of the track.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHighend does not allow higher sample rates

There is additional information based on the HD images I used during the tests.
My first installation of W7 was a bit "corrupted". I forgot to disable the automatic update function and got a somewhat "newer" system than SP1 (Date was 4th of December 2011). Seemingly I discovered that the KS driver was working correctly with red book specs (after doing useless things in the driver setup area of windows) but XXHIGHEND used WASAPI automatically after setting oversampling. (Strange, I know). To get KS driver working again I had to reboot the system and do the same procedure again. If shutting down and starting the system again with this settings the KS driver was working again without intervention. Identifying KS or WASAPI is based on the interrupt latency setting: 15 ms was accepted by KS but not by WASAPI mode.
The second installation contained a "clean" W7 SP1. Here I tried the actual Juli drivers and dicovered that KS was working for the analog outputs only.
After changing the drivers and selecting "wave2" (which was not seen before) in the second installation everthing works as expected.
Regards, Georg

Hi Peter,
you are right, I'm using the SPDIF output to feed the DAC. 24 Bit only gets STATIC definitively. That's not the reason. The XXHIGHEND settings worked fine for the XP based system but not for Win 7 64 bit. I found out additionally: If the system does play tracks with the KS driver it uses the analog outputs of the Juli card! It seems that there is no KS driver for the SPDIF output with the 64 bit drivers of the Juli card. Only WASAPI works to SPDIF. Hopefully anybody has some more experience with the Juli card and the 64 bit drivers?
