Title: No more cracks, ticks, plops
Post by: juanpmar on August 24, 2012, 07:04:38 pm
I cross my fingers but so far Iīm free from cracks, ticks or plops when I play with Allow Phase Alignment ON with and without the Playback Drive at Attended or Unattended.
The only ticks I have are the ones when I change the volume up or down but those seems to be clear for Peter and heīs going to fix them up.
About the stalls when I play without the Playback Drive I still  have it.

How I got there?, updating my drivers with a little program called Max Drive, it is very simple to use and you can backup or return to the previous drivers very easily. I paid 10€ for one month of use and I can use it in all the computers I have, in fact you can use it in 20 pcs.

I donīt know what is/are the drivers that fixed it up so I print here the screens with the drivers I installed and you can try them to see what happens in your case. There are two drivers that donīt work, the Realtek PCI GBE Family Controller that shoot off my Internet connection and the Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller that is a different version than the one that works correctly: the Renesas USB 3.0 Driver 2.0.34.0. So donīt install those two drivers or at least not the Renesas 2.1.36.0

I tested it with different albums and settings and so far so good.

Here is the link to Driver Max: http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/ (http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/)
There is a free version but can install only two drivers/day.

I hope it helps,
Juan

Hey Juan,

Congratulation!  Thanks for all the experimental works you have done and sharing with us. Saving us so much time.

Now I usually spare my time in flight simming while at the same time keep track/follow tweaks developed by you guys. Much more efficient for me.  ;)

Thanks
Praphan

Hi Peter,

With PA activated I still have soft clicks at the start of the first track, one loud click about 10/15 secs into the 1st track & a fairly loud click after 4/5 tracks. At stop there are no clicks.

With PA off there are no clicks at all. But SQ is not as good of course.

Have tried increasing Q1 but it's almost the same situation. Increasing SFS also gives the same result. CPU graph doesn't show any specific indication.

Any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Arvind

Definitively no more cracks at the start of the sound. Sometimes also no more ticks when the volume is changed on the fly but I have not yet the clue about it.

Now the problem to solve are the stalls when playing without the Playback Drive. If it is SFS and net Buffer related to find the correct combination, to get off the stalls and at the same time to get the best possible SQ, is going to be a trial and error work that needs of some time.

Arvind, try to update your drivers, it is easy and it only takes a few minutes. It solved my cracks and ticks. Try to differentiate between cracks, ticks, etc. As a crack I understand a quite big and dragged craaack, and it happens at the beginning of the first track or inside it (a few seconds). By tick or click I understand a short sound not so big, a plop Iīd say it is a deaf sound not too big and it happens mostly when you stop the sound. I say this just in order to get all of us more or less the same criteria on regards of these sounds.

Hey Praphan, good luck with your flying tour the next week, donīt forget to post the pictures of your simulator, I was also an aficionado although since I have XX I have plenty of entertainment and not much time to fly, but you know what?, although I have another great sound here, sometimes I miss the sound of the propeller planes.:good:

Hi Juan,

Great to learn that we have two common hobbies. I did post photo of my simulator. Please click this link.

Hi Juan,

I updated the drivers with the help of Driver Max but the clicks at start, 10/15 secs into the first track  & a loud cick around the 4/5th track still continues.

Best regards,

Arvind

Hi Arvind,

Well, for me worked, and it looks that it also worked for stefanobilliani. I guess that it all depends on each oneīs hardware/software.

You can always try 0.9z-7-2 that was specifically made to avoid those cracks.

Best regards,
Juan

Hey Praphan, I missed your Flight Simulator pictures, it is impressive!. Mine was much more simple. After playing with that simulator flying with the real Cessna will be a childīs game...and you still have some free time to use XXHighEnd?. Peter and you must have some secret to make days with more than 24 hours  ;)

Best regards,
Juan

Hi Juan,

Haha. My better half starts complaining these days that I spend too much time on my hobbies. Thanks for the reminder. I think I should go out with her for shopping today.

PS:   My sim is FAA approved training device and very useful for IR practice.  GNS 430/530 WAAS and KFC150 auto pilot are fully functional. Pitch trim is motorized so you have a real cockpit feel.

Cheers!

Notice that what's in 0.9z-7-2 is only for the start of playback.

When there's something happening after a few tracks, this will be about the PC needing to start up too much to deal with whatever it needs to deal with - and it is too slow with it and streaming stalls.
