Title: Alt-D and Alt-U issue
Post by: dsm on June 04, 2021, 12:25:00 pm
Hello Peter,

About a month or two ago, I lost the "Display Wallpaper" which now only shows a black screen in unattended. I also lost the Alt-u and Alt-d commands. Nothing happens in unattended when I press Alt-d and when I push Alt-U the music stops. I can return to the desktop with Ctrl Alt X though. I cannot remember what I was doing to cause this loss of these unattended  commands.

I am using the Ram disk and now have all the same settings you have been using. I re-installed the XX over-patch to see if it would just replace a corrupt file or something but still no change.

Any ideas?

Best,

David

David - hmm ... it looks like you may have mixed up "patches" or something. I mean, I don't recognize any of this, while it is very easy for people to e.g. place an upgrade in the wrong path, use an old XXHE icon or whatever which could go theoretically wrong.

Don't you use the XXOSK onscreen keyboard (look for it in the XX folder) ? please try it and click on U or D (volume commands). Does it work from there ?

The black screen can easily be caused by other things. But start with the Setting "Don't do anything with Coverart" in XXHE Settings. It should be inactive of course.
Try to mangle and set the Wallpaper just from within Windows. Often when you have it working from there, the normal behavior starts to appear as well.

Alt-u-/d not normally working, looks suspicious.

Best regards,
Peter

I went back to the 14393 base and and after rebooting, the alt-D and U started working correctly again. Now in 14393 RAM all is back to normal.

I found out that the wallpaper shows correctly if the tracks are WAV files but I get the black screen if they are FLAC. Both JPEGs seem to be similar and I can't figure out why it shows for one type of file and not another.

Thanks,

David

David, there's a topic about this somewhere (by "Arvind"). I am not even sure whether that got resolved.
For the life of me I could not copy that behavior.

Good memory Peter. I found the threads and it seems to have been related to the NAS.

I never had trouble with displaying cover art from my NAS until I changed disks and went to a 2 disk RAID configuration. That may have been when my cover art stopped displaying.

It's not very important to me but I do miss seeing the track title and the volume.

Best,

David

Hey David - can you link me to that topic ?
I have the hunch that it was solved. And btw, I said Arvind, but it really was someone else of whom I forgot the name at this moment. But Arvind was involved somehow.

Ha, great. OK, that is not the original topic, but at least I now know how it ended (and the person I was looking for is indeed the RMalits in that topic).

Richard, does anything change to this issue when you use  Core Appointment Scheme 1-3 ?

Now Richard never responded, but David, did you try this ?

Yes, I did give that a try but nothing...

Hello Peter,

I just found out that when I uncheck the "Show as Wallpaper", I have the issue with Alt-U stopping playback when in unattended and it is not possible for me to change the volume. With the box checked, both Alt-U and Alt-D work correctly.

Best,

David
