Title: Win7:version xxhe 1.186: alt-x does not work when in unattended playback
Post by: JohanZ on January 03, 2014, 08:46:48 pm
Hi Peter,
Alt-x does not work anymore while in unattended playback. Even no reaction when i move the mouse or keyboard. After finishing the play back i see a message: "Error setting the wallpaper: A generic eror occured in GDI+"
Any solution?

Best regards
Johan

Johan,

Set Q3 to 2 to start with and let me know whether that helps. Q4 to 2 is almost the same.

I changed Q3=2 that makes no difference. I set Q3=1 and change Q4=2 then alt-X and mouse movement give the screen back and the control over xxhe. It takes a lot of time to get a complete screen back. By the way when i changed Q4=2, I get a message that Q3 must be 0 because Q4 is not 1!? So you can only change Q3 when Q4=1. Is there another way to get a faster response?

Johan, is this a new PC now ? (I see that AMD in your sig and wonder whether it's related)

........Yes....... :scratching:

I'm still in the process of selecting the parts for a new one.

Now I don't know ...

Can you show me a picture of the CPU graph when XXHighEnd is playing ? Can just be in Attended (but MinOS).
Watch out : we can expect that TaskManager won't respond as well, but possibly you can get something done by first starting it (with the Performance tab active), have the screencopy software (if any) ready, and maybe it just shows a first bit of the graph before it stalls.
Better do this with Q3,4,5 = 2,1,1 to have a chance in the first place.

Regards,
Peter

Indeed no respons from the taskmanager. Same for Q3,4,5 = 0,2,1 and Q3,4,5 = 0,0,1
The first CPU graph i can get is from Q3,4,5 = 0,0,2 (i don't know if you want to see this graph)

Well, assumed that this just responds well to your Alt-x ... it won't be of any use.

Johan, try to "see" whether more than 2 cores are used heavily. This should NOT be (but it looks to be so).

Btw, did you try flipping the setting "Not Switch (cores) during Playback" ? (Processor Settings Section)

Any other AMD users who can confirm problems (or no problems) ?

The AMD is a two core processor.

I did test it in the beginning but it gives a lot of stuttering in the sound so i switched it off.

For this test I switched on "Not Switch (cores) during Playback" again to find out if i can make screenshots. Find included two CPU graphs in the attechments.
Screen 1 was with a lot of stuttering in the sound. After i set Q5=2 i had a stutterless sound. (screenshot 2)

When Q3,4,5 = 0,2,2 and "Not Switch (cores) during Playback" is on, Alt-X is functioning again in unattended playback mode without stuttering. A mouse-movement gives the screen back

What about the CPU usage?

Johan, before we proceed ... I asked the question, but I'm afraid I interpreted your answer wrongly. I'll ask it differently now :

Is this still your old PC ?

Sorry Johan, then I misunderstood that. Well, then again sorry, because I feel there's not so much to make of it other than not being able to use those 1,1,1, settings. I mean, we already know that somehow (!) your PC is not well capable of spreading tasks, and this really is the extreme of it. Whether this is your 2 core AMD (hence more core AMDs will solve it) which is the issue, not sure but probably (Intels seem to feel fine).

I am ready to help further if possible, but I don't see it. What you could try I think is
a. set the Clock Resolution to the lowest number possible (0.5) but try the highest also;
in combination with
b. Set the Thread Priority to the lowest and the Player Priority to the highest.
So just the other way around as usual and I think this should at least help. If enough is to see.

Let me know again.
Peter
