Title: 0,9z installation not possible on Win7 64-bit Ultimate PL
Post by: jarek on May 30, 2010, 10:17:13 am
Hi Peter,

here is cusing trouble user again :) !

I tired to install 0,9z on Windows7 Ultimate 64-bit polish edition.
First I noticed, the color scheme of first and every next screen looks strange. I attach a copy. Text area is different color than background. I have 1280x800, 32bit color, tried to change to 16bit but this does not help - the screens look the same. This is nothing however.

Program says, that several programs will be started, you know what I mean. So first goes the screen in attachement. You have to imagine this screen in english or dutch - looks similiar.
I I click Run, than the same screen appears and I can click Run forever... If I click Cancel, the next dialog about the next program appears.

Is a problem with 32-bit subsystem of 64-bit systems ? Still, cannot make it running. Of course previous version works fine.

Jarek

Hi Jarek, I had this problem too. I had to click cancel for many of the various programs. For the most part XX will work though not all of it will. I believe Peter will have this solved soon. Not sure what you mean by the color scheme problem. The new GUI is completely new including the colors.

Color scheme ? I mean that text and icons have darker background that the background iself, which is brighter.

I have that issue here also on my x64 install of Win7. Probably a glitch in the .net libraries or something like that.

Other than minor issues like that, XXHE works fine under x64 version.

Cheers,

Russ

The 0,9z version is not working in my case as you say. When I click Cancel to all the dialogs that appear on sturtup about programs that need to be run, I have to set all the options in program. When I exit the program to have the settings stored, I have two screens with error (one about running a program exactly the same as in the first post and one about 32-bit susbsystem issue).

After that when I try to run XXHighEnd again, it shows up after about 1,5 minute (for the first time after a second or so), and than displays message to load or not previous settings. No matter what I choose, settings are lost. And again, several programs need to be started, and things remain the same.

I am sorry - looks like settings are stored by the screen size and scheme is not - my mistake...

I have noticed that increased time needed to starting XXHighEnd is because I have several instances of XXHighEnd running as a tasks (eg. 3 x XXHighEnd processes). Exiting a program does not cause the task to end. I have to kill the XXHighEnd process manually.

So, I now verified for 100% that settings are not stored. The program is displaying on startup a message that settings were lost and if I want to recover the settings. When I click YES, I have old settings from version 8. When I exit the program it is hanging in process list and I have to kill the process manually.

I am sorry for so many posts, but I want to explain all problems is full. So, since I have to set up all the options again - including loading an album to playlist area, probably because of that PLAY is inactive. In version 8, I had to make XXHighEnd Off and On again after loading an album to make Play button active, here I cannot do this since Play button is inactive all the time. As a result I cannot hear a sound...

Jarek - Sorry for your inconveniences, but all is known, although it may not be all that logical to predict the effects of things. So, the main issue is the programs not being able to run (only Cancel frees you from those screens), but in the mean time it implies you can't run those programs. It just can't work. Not on a -to XX- new machine. You'd have to give this up for now.

But wait ... you may be my test case (please) ...

Paste the XXHighEnd.exe from below zip over the 0.9z install.
Don't forget to answer Yes to each of the questions now. I hope this now works, and can't test it myself (unless I find in the Registry to tweak these things back to "never ran before").

Let me know if this works.
Thanks,
Peter

PS: The colors from those screens are expected. I must see whether I can do something about them. Notice though that normally this isn't badly looking at all, as long as the texts are properly alined. And, I see now that in your polish version this is not the case.

Peter,
new version is working fine, all issues reported by me in this post are not existing and are solved.
Can I use it, or there is any temporary trick here ?

Great !

You can use it as far as I know.

Btw, this still leaves some means of solving the situation for the case one says No to such a message. Why ? well, because later in the running program I can't do it like this anymore. But ok, be creative ...

Thanks Jarek,
Peter

Hooray!  This new version fixes most my problems, too.  I was experiencing a lot of the same problems as Jarek on both my machines, one Vista and one Win 7 ( both 32-bit).

I'm still getting fairly regularly .net unhandled exceptions.  I can click "continue" and everything seems to go on without issues.

The new version even displays cover art in unattended mode, something the last 9z failed to do for me.

One new small problem though.  When I alx-x out of unattended the music stops.  I don't recall it working this way in the past.  Am I wrong?

Correction on that last post:  The music does keep playing when I alt-x out of unattended mode.  It's just that the track timer and progress bar quit working.

Yes, that is "normal". So far I can't solve that. Although I have to ...
(this happens when you start an Explorer or Browser instance when XXHighEnd is running)

That is normal (and has always been so).

Ok.
