46  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Playlist on: March 01, 2015, 06:02:30 pm
Is it possible to add complete albums in a playlist without selecting single tracks?
Thanks.
47  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Wireless keyboard on: January 03, 2015, 05:19:40 pm
Could this wireless (Bluetooth?) keyboard be used on a dedicated XXhighend pc without SQ related problems?

Thanks!
48  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / AIFF files problem on: December 23, 2014, 08:17:15 pm
I've a folder with a album in AIFF format, 10 tracks. If you open it (in Windows) you only see these files, with .AIFF extension.

When you open it in XXhe 20 tracks are shown. The first 10 begins with "._" followed by file name. These can't be plaied.
Everything is ok with following 10 tracks.

Is this behaviour known? What's wrong?
Thanks

A little note.

Motherboards are NOT, NOT, NOT made to be modified!

Risks to damage them are VERY VERY HIGH!

Their reliability would be MUCH compromized even if you'd succesfully be able to replace a o/b x-tal with a external oscillator.
Fitting a coaxial cable would be very tricky and, again, reliability would be MUCH lower than before.

Furthermore, maybe Nick could add something on this matter, output voltages from "audio" clocks might NOT be optimal for mobos. Where even 1.2V rails are used...

In two words: be ready to get a NEW motherboard!

Nick, if you're lucky enough to find the right frequency on a used industrial OCXO on ebay price will be very low (20 or 30 USD range). Unfortunately most of them are 10MHz. Anyway other freqs. are available.

Project at link I sent you is about getting much similar to a OCXO performances at a fraction of the price.

Nick, give look at following link for a low phase noise jitter oscillator:

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/261651-well-tempered-master-clock-building-low-phase-noise-jitter-crystal-oscillator.html

Also give a look on ebay about used OCXO. These have great performances but are almost never used in audio due to high cost (about 500Eur each). Cost apart you will not find usual "audio" frequencies (11.2896 MHz and so on) and they have to be custom ordered.... minimum production batch is 5 pieces to complicate things even more.
Maybe for usb and mobo freqs. you'd find something!

Maybe there is no need for higher "power".

There always is. This is because "we" are always working against the limits. And sadly it is so that these limits always show the better SQ.
So trust me : My SQ will be better because I have the more powerful PC. I just can dial in "more" from XXHighEnd ...

Peter

PS: This counts for everyone not owning a NOS1a.

Interesting Peter. But how does this requirement for higher power relates to heavy clock slow down? It looks as you use 500MHz, or less on CPU.

Nick, could you post some pictures of your mobo clock? I'm very curious about that... although in the future I'd first like to add a good clock to a PCI usb board... Thanks!
54  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / A new PC for XXHighEnd... on: December 08, 2014, 06:29:55 pm
Would you suggest a Intel i3 CPU or would a i5 be a better choice?
Maybe there is no need for higher "power".

Motherboard would be a quality one, such a entry level Asus Z or H97, with a good PSU in the Eur 100 range.

Suggestions? Thanks!
55  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Win 8 and 8.1 - 192 and 384KHz on: December 06, 2014, 01:36:23 pm
I use win 8.1 for XXhighend driving a diy non oversampling dac build around the PCM1704K. I upsample everything to 384KHz as my USB/I2S board handles it.
Now a friend of mine would like to do the same and will need a new PC.
I don't want to spend a full day to read all forum posts... but I'd like to give him best advices.
Win 8 seems to be the OS for best possible SQ. But can it work up to 384KHz? Or is this only possible with win 8.1?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Yes, please try W8.1 and report.
57  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / TAG search? on: July 13, 2014, 01:58:57 pm
I've a quite big music folder, both with SD and HD albums. Each one with its tags. I need to find a way in XXhighend to be able to only see HD albums if required. I thought about the possibility to create two different folders for SD and HD and then simply switching between them pointing to desired one in XXhighend Settings area.
BUT, I'm also wondering if there's TAGs search in this brilliant piece of software. I used "composer" field also to indicate sampling rate for HD music. So if I'd search for "192KHz" I'd be fine.

Thanks!
