I emailed him and he said he tried a 176 file and it works fine. I then emailed asking what nos dac chip he was using for high rez files or were the high rez files downsampled. Am still waiting for a reply (3 days but its holiday here.).

Not to counteract anything ... to me this looks like someone who assembled some theories he doesn't know much about and next uses those same theories to tell us it's all great.

Just imagine that I had to try this (at last) after a question. *And* after not mentioning it in the first place.
The texts don't fit either. I mean, you have an asynchronous clocking mechanism all the way (which is what 50% of the text implies) or you do it with asynchronous USB (which is what the other 50% tells and which at least is possible). And if he has learned that this implies low jitter (which would be over USB), he'd better measure it. Or like with the NOS and 102dB THD ... he better tells how, or show the plots to begin with.

I don't think it will sound very wrong if he, as an engineer, is only the audiophile he promises. But it doesn't tell how utmost good it sounds.

Maybe I am just jaleous that others can make fine DACs for a way more low price ... :grazy:
Peter

Everybody in here wants YOUR dac, but with the price of the other...
(But you knew that, of course  8) )

Thanks Pedal, you took the words right out of my mouth. Of course Peter's dac, being perhaps the best on the globe, is really rather cheap when compared to something like the Trinity dac which costs about 15 thousand, but that doesn't help me. I'm always on the lookout for a descent NOS dac that I can afford, and that will play high rez stuff. There just don't seem to be too many out there.........If the Audio Mirror dac doesn't downsample high rez, I might give it an audition. We'll see.......

Okay, the dac chip is AD1865N-K. I think that's an 18 bit chip. Anyone know if its any good? Thanks.

Well, if that's the chip its using, then it's certainly 18 bit... and not 24 like the NOS1.

"This DAC will play all formats from 16 and 24 bit sources."

So this is how you are misguided.
