Anyway, today you can check things, by choosing Scheme-1 (not the others !), start Playback, and look for the Processor Affinity for a few random processes (Taskmanager, Processes tab, rightclick on a process, choose Set Affinity -> is only there when you have more cores !). When only one core is ticked (not by you), you have it working.
A random process gives, two cores checked see screen 1 XXHighEnd gives the message "No access" see screen 2 When i do XX it shows the cores....

Ok Gerard. For me, however, it is not the real solution. I mean, if you were able to play with Q1 lower, and now that can't work anymore (because of crackling) I want to understand why ... Actually, for you it should be something not to "accept", because the Q1 is there to create the best sound for you, not for avoiding crackling.
Hello Peter, I have thought it over and i think i will install Vista again... The reason i bought this pc was for music... But i can say i do more with it than i planned... Than i will have a clean pc and than will see how it goes... (still have a laptop) Yesterday i played again with Q1 -4 but did not hear anything strange... I cant wait until i have a dac or something else! Wonder what that wil do to the cracks.... But for now everything sounds good, and a error now and than does not anoy me. Still the problems are far less with XX on the other drive. But i really wonder what is so different than let's say your pc...... Werk ze... Grtzzz

Gerard, I can't be sure whether you did this already :
Your reocurring cracklings should be caused by Unattended Playback (or playing FLAC/MP3 in general), and XXHighEnd reciding on drive C:. So, if you put your XXHighEnd folder on the music drive it may help. If you already did that, I don't know yet ...
Peter, I did not move XX back to C:... Even on the other drive ( wich also contained my music ) I had the cracks back. But sliding the Q1 back solved everything... Grtz....

ultimate SQ emerges from shutting down the player (XXHighEnd) itself ...
If a track is playing, and you want to know the title, you can restart XXHighEnd, and the playing track will be at the top of the Playlist. Seen it ? just click Off, and nothing changed. Peter
Ah this explains a lot.... One question though... Does it also mean that when you like to see the track or cd playing and you click on XX again that that action influences the sound?

The latter will be unknown to you, but it expresses as your wife telling you to put down the volume, while it wasn't that low ever, just because you yourself already turned it down.
Peter
Reading this a big smile came up.... Peter isn't it possible that you can do some programming to our "wife"? You fixst a lot already.... Grtzzzz

And 'buffer size' as in amount of memory ? No, it would be at the receiving side of the soundcard/DAC. In your case it won't even be adjustable, and besides that, it worked before. So never mind. Testing ? maybe also never mind, and better try again the old (XX) situation whether that still works. If so, your attention must go to the Core Appointment (switch it off is best to check things) ad well as the Priorities (set them all to normal and see whether it helps). Take your time ... you are not rushing for me ! (only for yourself) Today i had the cracks again. Even with XX on a different harddisk. But i have set the q1 to -4. When i moved the Q1 to 14 it was gone. Grtz

And Gerard, was this indeed draaging files from Explorer, or the Library button ? And was something already in the Playlist Area, or was it empty ? Lastly : right now whe are hearing things that were not there before. Altough we could not hear them... Actually I don't understand what you say here ! Peter yes i did play with the latest. And i loaded in with the left library.... Everytime the last played was in the library.... I will do some testing tonight when i get back home. Grtzzz
