With WASAPI XXEngine3 always remains a background process. Tried all various settings which I think can be related, but nothing.

What I do notice (and I saw similar from your log files) is that WASAPI doesn't go to 10ms of ClockResolution anymore (when you ask for 15). So, that's a good thing.

If I recall correctly, with WASAPI I will get a message if the clock resolution is anything different from 1ms. I just tried it, to finally remember I removed the message from XXHIGHEND folder Wink

And true, with WASAPI, the XXENGINE is consistently staying in the background processes. No error.

Now all is empty (log files erased).
Starting XXHE...
Processor cores = no appointment
PlayerPrio = normal
ThreadPrio = normal

Play = good (xxengine3 in background)
Stop (xxengine3 in BG)
Play = Error (xxengine in foreground)

First logs sent (except for the "general" log)

EDIT: to have the possibility of copying the X3PB, I had to press Play again and get the error, since xxengine3 ceased its hold of the X3PB file...

One way to show the sequence I did would be to do it again (up to the point of restoration) and take pictures of the screen... ?

Sometimes pictures tells a lot more than any written post...

I am doing it right now. Should be back in about 20-30 minutes Happy

Thanks again Happy

Well, it seems that here I need your help as well Alain.

I have been preparing a Restore Point so I could do the same as you, but ... HOW ?

Once I end up in this "no screen" situation there's nothing much to do but a reboot, right ? But Restoring to that Restore Point will work. Now, for the life of me I don't see where to do that. F4 ? non-existent. Must we tweak something for that ?

I tried Safe Mode, but the option for reverting to a Restore Point can not be found. Well, not by me. swoon.  We can make new though in there, but whatfore.

So how can I go about with this ?

Thanks again ...
Peter

Funny, when I checked for new posts, I did not see this one... Well.

All was automatic. When I pressed "Minimize OS", all is as explained in the relase notes. Then the window that aknowledge about the reboot into Minimize OS.

The reboot is OK, but then no display once I guess I am in Windows...

I pressed the reset button of the PC, then keep pressing F4 to enter in Windows 8, but this time it displays some choices that I would have to go through again. I donMT think I chose "Safe Mode" at first... At some point I selected "Advanced " something, then "Restore point" (my OS is in French, so I am "assuming" titles), then if offered me the one from XXHIGHEND Normal OS (it was my only restore point) and asked me with what userid I shoud ask for this (Alain or Administrateur), then password (I had to switch the language, as "French" meant is French from France, so AZERTY instead of QWERTY...), so finally the restoration occured and the PC rebooted...

When I accessed XXHE, I was told that the Minimize OS did not correspond and the status color was back in blue. Cool Happy

You save me from restoring another time with Acronis Happy

That could be convenient, yes. But only those from the last sequence should suffice.

Hey thanks.
Sorry Peter, I did not see this post... After this "background" then "foreground" permutation, would you still like to have the log files ?...

Peter,

Is XXENGINE a "background" process normally ?

The first time I press Play and all works, the XXENGINE appears in the "background" processes.

Stop - still in "background" processes
Play - Error message, then XXENGINE appears in "application" processes
I press OK, then XXENGINE disappears
I press Play, XXENGINE starts in "background" processes...

Et all...

Alain

I finally was able to make sense out of your 4 log files posted. But nothing is in there that leads me to an error message; You will have had some (like you showed), but it is not logged.

I am tempted to ask : Is this repeatable ?
I mean, I have it sometimes as well (without recognizable reason).

You may try to tell me the sequence of happenings when you start out with XXEngine3.exe not in memory. For example :

- Killed sound engine;
- Play;
- Error message abc;
- Click away message;
- Play [plays];
- Stop;
- Play [plays].
- Killed sound engine;
- Play;
- Error message abc;
- ...

Such a sequence would indicate that the message happens one time only each time when the sound engine is started.

Btw, I do not have KS device in my W8 machine so I can't test it. Engine#3 (WASAPI) runs fine (ehm, no amps or anything connected).

Right now I am stuck on this one, so I hope you can help ...

Peter

Ok...
- Rebooted the system
- the song is already in the playlist
- Play = good
- Stop
- Play (the same song) = Error message
- Press OK, then Play again = good
- Stop
- Play (the same song) = Error message

- Kill XXENGINE

- Play = good
- Stop
- Play = Error message
- OK
- Play = good...

There are lots of files, would you like them all ?

Merry Christmas ! Happy

First about the "MS-DOS" window that briefly appears: I started XXHE without playing anything and I selected "S" to go to the settings... This is the XX log file I think you asked for ?

Peter,

I will do as soon as possible. I am preparing to leave for Christmas Eve and I will get killed by my sweetheart if I stay in front of my PC...

I can tell that this message pops when I press Play. Nothing happens, then I see the Warning appears. In fact, I'd better say "Error" instead. After I press OK, the music does not start. Then if I press Play again, the music starts...

As for this screen thing that briefly appears, I am not sure
Oops... I posted too fast...

For the second behaviour: a black screen opens (it does not take the full screen, it really looks like a cmd screen is opened and I can briefly see "C:\XXHIGHEND", that correspond to the folder where XXHIGHEND is...

Hope all is ok...

Thanks Happy

Hey Alain,

Can you provide me the X3 and X3PB log files when this error message is on the screen (not later) ?

Quote
Ah, there is also something that happens whenever I press "S" for the settings. A black box (like a cmd.exe box) appears briefly before the Settings appear (?)...

If you mean that you press "S" when the Settings are on-screen, that could be correct but is not intended anyway. Is this the case ?
When not, you might hand me the XX log file of *that*, and please right after the happening.

Thanks,
Peter
I have included the 2 files as requested for the first situation (the warning message).

Hi Peter,

This message appears now when I play a song. I have first to press "OK" to have it disappear, then I press Play again and it's ok.

I checked the settings and all is ok. My DAC needs 24 bit and plays up to 24/192. Nothing unusual.

Ah, there is also something that happens whenever I press "S" for the settings. A black box (like a cmd.exe box) appears briefly before the Settings appear (?)...

Alain, thanks for posting this. But seriously ... I only now realize that I never tested Minimized OS. And (stupidly enough) why ? because I needed to Activate that install and postponed that. I postponed it until I just forgot about it ...

I hope you will forgive me when I look at this later. But it is the first thing I will do.

Regards,
Peter

PS: I guess that happens when I can't test it anyway for SQ because the NOS1 driver isn't ready for that. Well, it is, but on W8 Consumer Preview - somehow (looks like that Bluetooth issue for which I, btw, do have a solution by now (later about that, I wanted to have this out first)).
Peter,

The main reason is to help (you and others). 9z-7-5 is already so fine that I wonder how it could get better. And since the beginning of this wonderful adventure, it has always been surprise after surprise (for the better).

From Star Trek "To boldly go where no one has gone before" applies so well to you Happy

So all is to say "Thanks for all you have done and continue to do". And please don't stop !

Kind regards,

Alain

Hi Peter,

I have a problem when attempting to minimize the OS. There is no display at all.

This gave me the occasion to use F4 at boot time and see what Windows allows to do. Quite interesting Happy I was able to recover from the restore point that XXHE creates Happy

So I can't minimize, otherwise I don't have a screen...

Regards,

Alain
P.S.: Lots of things to look for with those new controls Happy

Alain, it's okay to put that message just in the forum. With PM (or email) a. I can't get track of things and b. what about others. Ok ?

Just copy your PM contents into a separate topic. We'll see further from there.

Thanks !
Peter

Will do... Sorry unhappy
