466  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: First impression of the NOS1a (and Orelo) on: June 19, 2014, 07:01:52 pm
The NOS1a requires an update of the XXEngine3.exe & XXHighEnd.exe (transmitted by Peter) to version 1.186e

First listening impressions with the NOS1a ( settings see profile ) after two hours.

1)   It seems that all the “airy dirt” is vanished.
2)   The extreme left/right channel separation with the start of W8 is gone. (due to the new revision of the exe files?)
3)   Replay of cymbals with more details/resolution ( “Sakura, Sakura” – Stanley Clarke Trio)
4)   Bass is more profound ( “Sakura, Sakura” – Stanley Clarke Trio)
5)   Less harshness at wind instruments (trumpets - “Sunflower” from Wynton Marsalis)
6)   A refined 3D image of the recording room.

A prior nearly unlistenable album (Diana Krall – The Look Of Love) sounds much better now.

Thanks to Peter we do have the chance to buy a “very very early Christmas present” now.

Great job!!!!

Spain was tired physically and mentally. We never played as we used to do. Our time is over for now but we, the Spaniards, must be grateful for the last fantastic six years.

Regards
Juan

Correct, but the "Tiki-Taka" time is over.
You saw how Bayern Munich beat FC Barcelona in the Champions League with a different tactic last year.
This year Real Madrid smashed the "Tiki-Taka" team Bayern Munich (with Pepe Guardiola), and then Holland Spain a couple of days ago.
But Spain will come back with their wonderful technicians.

Netherlands 3 Australia 2.
Hey Joachim, I reckon Australia did better against the Dutch than we did against Chile...

Anthony

That is true. The Aussies played really an aggressive fair  tackling. The Dutch were tired and not so ambitious as against Spain, and they underestimated the Aussies.
A  2 : 2  would have been fair result for both sides in this game.

What I do not like absolutely, are the "divers" (Goetze etc.).

I'm sure do believe that we see more surprising results.

They look neither big nor obtrusive in your room.

regards, Coen

Hi Mani,

this was my first impression too. Special adaption for your room? This size has a high WAF.

Did you find the optimal acoustic position for the speaker already?.

Well, mine are now up and running. But I will not say a word about the sound until:
a) I get my NOS1a from Peter (probably early next week)
b) the speakers have had a good time to burn-in

But here's a pic...

Mani.

Hi Mani,

nice to see, but

no carpets in the room?

474  Ultimate Audio Playback / Orelino / Orelo MKII Loudspeakers / Re: Orelino / Orelo MKII Fletcher-Munson Curves on: June 08, 2014, 09:11:28 am

At least that was one of the ideas behind the fourth amplifier in there.

http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2910.0

Now it dawns to me that this are full ACTIVE  speakers, and that tells a lot and should be more highlighted. This is a different world in sound reproduction.

I heard in Berlin at Max Schlundt last year the Dutch speakers Grimm LS1, an active speaker too, and the SQ was totally different to my system and the sound was ......
incredible.
A full 3D image with an amazing resolution. I sat there with an "open mouth" and my question was, how is this possible.

The active driven speakers seems to be a superior design with an amazing result.

We do not see many reviews in the HiFi press about active speakers, but when, the critics are overwhelming positive.

this probably would relate to the high sensitivity.

In general the SQ of these speakers must be amazing, but there must be other explanations than the high sensitivity only.

I came across a film report about Gauder Akustik, and Dr. Gauders argument about a good SQ is different.

Start the film at 3.30 minutes and watch ……… .

The last part of the story is that when a speaker changes from 115dB sensitive to 118dB sensitive, this implies such a huge change on the HF output (all just flows out so much more easy) that while this with 115dB was hold back, it now does less and e.g. harshness becomes more apparent. It is just louder.

There is more involved:

It has to be Joachim ! More expensive wire is better SQ !
Always.

Ok, Ok!

*Of course * that's found out when all manufacturers of that wire need orders before 4pm to have it the next day, at ... 4:05pm. So no wire tomorrow either.

This afternoon we will get it from a normal physical shop.

I do believe this gives the SQ an extra boost!!

479  Ultimate Audio Playback / Orelino / Orelo MKII Loudspeakers / Re: Photos Orelo MKII back side (woofer section) on: May 17, 2014, 11:46:27 am
Seeing the three bass drivers at the Orelo MKII my first thought was, that’s an overkill.

Manuf’s like MBL, Marten, Tidal etc. with their expensive models (between >100K and 400K) are using two separate additional woofer columns. It seems that these additional woofers are creating the last “kick” of the SQ.

Comparing then the Orelo MKII with the a.m. brands they are a bargain.
