Hi Joachim, Strange indeed I have 3 different brands of sata controllers on my motherboard... Go figure... Alain Hi, found out today, that in the BIOS (X79 chipset) under (South Bridge) "Storage configuration" all remaining eSata's connections shall be disabled, otherwise the external eSata drive will not be recognized by the running W10 OS. So, solved for you ?
Hi, yes. Another possibility would be to install an Asmedia (controller) driver from 2013 or an Intel driver from the Asrock site for this mobo, but nobody knows how that will work. He, he. The RAM-OS PC is running around the clock now and this scenario is a solution I can live with. Thanx. Joachim

He, he
strange, very strange.
The recommended Sata3 driver for the controller is not loaded into the OS (device manager), but, (external eSata3 drive is "OFF")
switching the external eSata3 drive during a running W10 "ON" the system recognizes the eSata drive and music files are available.

Joachim,
I'd say that when the RAM OS Disk is not in there (but whatever is hooked up to your eSata indeed is during booting) - the same happens ? Aha, you can't test that eh ? haha
Again I don't see how this is related to the RAM OS Disk. Put another bootable disk in there to check ...
Regards, Peter
Hi, the problem is not related to the RAM-OS, it's the BIOS/motherboard. I will check and update the motherboard drivers. Joachim

You talk about your X79(M) (I assume).
Hi Peter, correct. The RAM-OS using alone everything works fine. Connecting an additional eSata drive the system is stuck during booting. Changes in the Bios don't help. I will install new drivers from the Asrock site for the mobo and will see. On an other PC the eSata drive is recognized by the system during booting and works fine. Joachim

I think I said elsewhere that the BIOS was even changed especially for Phasure (maybe I did not write that and possibly I planned that for later, but anyway it is true).
Ha, Ha, there are problems here to connect an external eSata drive. The BIOS rejects to organize the two drives (RAM OS + external) Any idea? Thanx Joachim

About the processor. I see that Michael is using a Xeon CPU. Maybe low wattage so it can be fanless? But still 8 cores? Not sure but I would say that a e.g. 5930K CPU (140w) cannot be used fanless, unless we can be for sure it always run at low speeds. What I remember is that Peter did stress tests at full CPU speeds for the LPS. To me that seems impossible with a 140w CPU and fanless.... I think the Noctua cooler is not that good. I could be wrong.
Arjan
Hi, Peter installed in his "last batch" a XEON E5-2620 v2 CPU, and the SQ should be superior to the 3930K he wrote. Looking to the XXH "lamps" all cores are engaged only then, when in "unattended mode" the "Flac" tracks are convert to "Wave" and transfered into RAM. The rest of the time ..... , or I'm using other processes within XXH, such handling the Gallery etc. Joachim

Stress tests passed too. All I could manage is let increase a couple of diodes with 25 degrees Celcius (from 45 Celcius (113F) to 70 Celcius (158F)). Stress test (the worst one) : Set CPU Ratio (BIOS) to Auto and boot into the BIOS. Now wait ... (all runs at full speed now). Besides the fact that all could take it for the required current, after ~ 5 minutes nothing rose anymore for temperature. No cooling fans anywhere. Hi Peter, sounds good. Price & delivery time? ... but please mind that you are doing this quite explicitly to the purpose of this thread. And *that* is what nobody likes, I'm sure. I don't have a clue what you're talking about. But not the first time I have nothing against using a PC for music. What I have a strong aversion to not knowing what the hell is going on - why the sound changes with a tiny tweak here and there. So, should we continue in this vain? And one answer is definitely, why not? Yes, it really is incredible how you keep making continual leaps in improvements. And you must know I'm one of your biggest fans in this respect. But maybe I'm alone here when I say I'm getting kind of tired of continual PC tweaking. I just want to listen to music... Mani. Hi Mani, the hobby on this site is similar to a F1 race competition. Joachim
