Title: JCAT USB 3.0 Card
Post by: Mamba315 on January 14, 2014, 06:46:26 pm
Thought this might be of interest to some due to the amount of discussion over USB cards lately.  Never purchased their software but my brother did and sent me this pre-order info.  Just don't get Peter started on where they got their software ideas!  :)

This is TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. Did everybody hear that ? 347 euros (397 actually) for a stupid card which maybe costs 120 euros including labor and it being hand soldered (and 60 euros when automated excluding some additional machinery settings costs). So watch out, because before you know it I'll provide one myself (give me two months max). But I won't because I don't see a reason for it anyway.

I'll make my profit elsewhere. And not here, because I'm not much into audio betrayal.

I thought the card was a bargain compared to the price of their cables.  350 euro for a SATA or LAN cable?  What do you suppose those cost to make?  Maybe the cables are priced that way to make the card look like a deal...

I concur.

Peter, you have just changed to a PCIe-USB card because it sounds better than your mobo port.  What makes you think it can't get better again?

Because I'm a both feed on the ground guy (as in "let's put our both feet back to the ground" which at least is an expression here and the opposite of floating and drifting away and off, head in a cloud).

I did not change to a PCIe card because it sounds better than the MoBo connection. I just started to use it for quite different purposes and "opportunities" (in this case my "special connection", remember ?). So think of it - I have two PCIe cards (just bought two of a most different architecture to give myself the best chances for my little project (which failed so far)) and by accident the one card doesn't show a difference that I noticed (not really paying attention because that wasn't my objective) and the other (Silverstone) suddenly jumped on me all over. So, pure coincidence.

I don't like coincidences.
What seems not a coincidence is that all who obtained the Silverstone agree with the nature of its sound. So it does something.
If you now can tell me *what* it does ... (for EE merits)

But not in here because I'm closing this topic;
It is one too many about the same (too general and without real subject apart from the title of course ;)).
