Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Cover art issue with Unattended

Hi Michael,
I am not sure whether the below text appeared somewhere formally, as it is quite difficult to pinpoint the exact solution. IOW, I myself, when I run into it, must always "fiddle". Hopefully it gives you sufficient hints.
Best regards, Peter
In exactly this sequence, to be performed directly on the Audio PC (read : not via RDC/RDP) :
Go to your XX folder (where XXHighEnd.exe resides), find the Wallpaper.bmp file and delete that.
Start XXHighEnd and take care that no music is playing.
Go to the Control Panel, Find the Display (settings) and start that.
Find Personalization and click that.
Click the Wallpaper of your liking. This should appear right away; if not something is wrong and you need to get this part going.
Cause the Settings in XXHighEnd to show the Wallpaper (at least the Front Cover).
Now press Play in XXHighEnd in Attended (!!) mode; Behind XXHighEnd the Wallpaper should now show (possibly with Desktop Icons still visible, but never mind those as later they will not be there automatically).
If you use RDP for remote control, now go to the PC controlling the Audio PC and, rightclick the Remote Desktop Icon and choose "Open with". From there choose Notepad.
In this file, find the line containing disable wallpaper:i: and take care the value for it is 0, like : disable wallpaper:i:0 When you applied a change, press ctrl-s to save the changes.
Now double click the icon (start the RDP session) and all should be fine. Fine is : When audio plays, the Wallpaper Coverart on the desktop and nothing else (but maybe OSD Text if you set that to show). When audio playback is stopped by means of Stop (not Pause), the Wallpaper Coverart will changed into you earlier selected (normal) Wallpaper and the Desktop Icons re-appear.
--- This procedure was checked on March 27, 2016.
It is assumed that "Don't do anything with Coverart" (in XXHighEnd settings, Coverart section) is not activated. Also it is assumed that at this time Show as Wallpaper and At Attended both are active.
Press Stop in XXHighEnd. Go to Control Panel - Personalization. Again click Stop in XXHighEnd. In Personalization click one of the Themes with a background. This should now appear. Click Play in XXHighEnd. The Wallpaper Coverart will now appear (the normal Wallpaper will be disappeared). Click Stop. The normal Wallpaper should re-appear.
When the above all happens as described, the Wallpaper Coverart should always appear in actual form (from the track currently playing) and when played Unattended, all should be fine as well.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Xxhighend 2.10 has issues playing back some hi res files

Hi Robert,
Think back on where you obtained them and next Google for the issue ? (not really much chance because I suppose it will be related to XXHighEnd too)
It could be some sheer coincidence on the sampling rate / but depth and the further settings you use. That doesn't explain why others (newer) are working fine, but still ... if it is solve by e.g. change 0.69 to 0.68 and you don't hear that ... ... But anyway, it would be interesting to know whether the problem persists at SFS = 0.68; I suppose not, that then proving it is a coincidental situation (unlucky combination of matters) in the first place.
Best regards, Peter

Hi Colin - Thank you for posting this.
I actually as looking for something like me saying that I solved this, because I have it again and couldn't understand. Now I see per this topic that it is/was related to a Format Change, I better know what to focus on in the program. IOW ... I did solve it (for 2.11) but later applied a change somewhere/somehow which re-introduces the problem. So now I can solve it again ...
Regards, Peter

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Tidal Search Help

Hi there Zheng, I tried them all, and for me the first (CD01) of the Back was tested and works, the second does not come up at all, the third (Brahms) the CD01 is Yellow and the CD02 is OK, and the fourth again does not come up at all. But as we know this may not tell all because it could be the difference between Netherlands and HK (I hope I recall that correctly). We might try this : 1. In your XX folder there's a TidalSession.dat file; delete that. Restart XXHighEnd and retry. This will force a re-login at Tidal. 2. If #1 did not help, please email (not attach here) the now new TidalSession.dat file. This also requires your Tidal email (account) and password. You could change the password for the occasion, so I can try it for say this week; after that you can change it back to what it was. Of course if you don't like me to do this, then it is OK (but won't help either ). It can well be the Premium vs HiFi account indeed. Are you new to Tidal ? Maybe I forgot, but I don't recall having a Premium account (while still MQA is allowed). So with the help of your account data I can test it. But possibly #1 already helps, but in that case I'd say that something must have changed underway and that at first you were logged in as HiFi account, while now (suddenly ?) it requires Premium. I don't think I am doing anything with it. But for example, if you have the even lower rated account (??) that only allows MP3 albums, all would emerge with yellow borders because XXHighEnd tests for them not to be MP3 and "skips" them (yellow border) if not Redbook after all. N.b.: It works like this because sometimes what's promised as Rebook, at the "playing" level turns out to be MP3. This is rather a rights issue than something wrong, although the "promise" regarding you (which is also related to the country - HK) having the rights, is then a bug (somehow). Btw, this is determined on a per track basis, and when you (/ HK) do not have the rights to the first track, the album will be yellow bordered and inaccessible for Playback. If the first track is OK and a next track does not have the rights for you, that next track(s) is just skipped (the track number will lack in the sequence of tracks for the album, after it has been Prepared). Long story, but it may help you to debug the situation. I am not assuming that this is related to the current HK situation (if you are in HK at all), but this could also be the case, far sought. Best regards, Peter

Hi Shreekant, In one of your notes i read that xxh has to be downloaded to run HQP through NOS1a I think you must have misread something. Thus, no need to use XXHighEnd whatsoever. I will say it once again : I myself barely can get HQP to work, and as you can se in the other topic (I referred you to earlier), this is such a pain that *I* will never go there again. And if you do it for SQ-hopes … forget it (or asks others who may be more objective than I am). Regards, Peter

Hi Gerard,
Bandwidth is length related. The longer the length, the more "roll off" at the high end. Thus higher frequencies will be filtered at longer lengths. For a normal interlink this officially already won't matter (by math), so let alone for this one (rated at a loss of 1.5dB at 100m).
Best regards, Peter
