13651  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Screen/Video crash with 0.9-w6 on: January 20, 2009, 01:27:38 pm
Hi,

Looking at the various data you provided (very good, thanks), I see four problems.

First problem

For example your "Crash3" right above ... this is something from the OS, and in the end is normal. Ok, really "normal" it is not of course, but it is caused by the resources XXHighEnd draws for itself, not giving enough for those processes (services) not really needing it anyway. So they stop. Not that this is not really crashing, but it is how it expresses anyway.
I never found any service which is stopping this way, can harm you(r system).
Note that also services exist which make your screen turn into a windows-311 look, and you shouldn't even be bothered by that.
When these things happen, they happen because sound will be better. They don't interfere with sound anymore, and they got away because sound interfered with them. Strange story maybe, but it is so, en generally seen as beneficial.
Of course you could switch off the services concerned, and many people do. Spoolsv.exe is amongst them, if you don't want to print that is.
Note that Spoolsv.exe is just an example, and many more exist (and they may all crash one time or another).

Second problem

When you play hires files you should use the latest version and set "Split file at size" to 100MB. Otherwise too much memory will be consumed, and combined with FLAC conversion this is even worse. Note that the way XX is configured, you cannot use more than 2GB for the music files, no matter how much memory you have, and no matter it is Vista (or XP) 64.
The 2L files are extra problematic, that is, in DXD version, because they also have to be downconverted to 176400. They will play, but only at Unattended without problems.

Third problem

This is about yuor first mentioned crash, "Crash 1";
You describe this problem in a general form, which then (!) ends up in my above explanation under "First problem". However, this "First crash" problem is specific for the XXHighEnd screen, and I can't tell what you did to create that. I don't think this is a real problem because you might not be able to have it again, or otherwise once in a while. If you have it too often (to decide by yourself) of course I will solve it, but then I have to know how to mimic it.

After restarting program, I have lost lower settings Unattended play etc.

This is unrelated. Settings are stored when you quit the program in normal fashion. When you do not (like with a crash) they are not saved. Thus, this only indicates that you just changed a setting in that session.

Fourth problem

I have also found from DAC Test that my M-AUdio PCI Delta 192 (with M-Audio Beta VISTA 64x driver) only plays at 16/44.1 and 16/48. Do you think that the fact that the M-Audio Beta VISTA 64x driver is not Microsoft signed plays a matter?

I am almost sure indeed it matters. Two questions :
1. Do you see this device as "loudspeakers" *and* as SPDIF ? If the latter is not so, the driver won't be Vista compatible.
2. When you go to the Advanced page of the properties of the SPDIF (!!) device, do you there see 24/192 listed ? (if Yes it doesn't say much, but if No it sure tells that via Exclusive  Mode the device can't play over that rate. If there's only loudspeakers (see 1) this doesn't say anything (I think).

I hope this kind of answered your questions !

Thanks Leif ... but I know. See previous post !

Edit : Below is wrong, because it doesn't refer to an XXHighEnd.exe.

You may try the XXHighEnd in this post : http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=699.msg5022#msg5022
I have been fighting with this all day yesterday, and solved these kind of things (but one -> and you are NOT going to find that, hahaha).

Please let me know whether that helps for you !

13654  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: W7 vs. V6a on: January 19, 2009, 05:54:20 pm
Ok, after a hint from a post in another topic I may have interpreted this wrongly. Probably most because of this :

Quote
Standing basses is more in the background on W7

which came to me as a skandinavion expression on "standing waves". Happy

At least I have a Jamie Cullum and that track (Twenty Something) so I will use that for comparing to start with.

Quote
On V6a the general volume sounds a pitch higher than through W7 which sounds (a little) lower in volume, not much.

Of course assuming that you are right, I may wonder where this comes from. I suspect you use the volume at -0dB only (as you sig says), and rather officially this can't matter. Can this be the better "sharpness" from 0.9v-6a ?
13655  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: w-8 Sound problem on: January 19, 2009, 05:50:48 pm
I don't particulary like w8 either in Attended or Unattended. I think the difference in SQ here is negligible. The sound's characteristics is basically the same. I love w5 in both Attended and Unatt. Rythmic, full sound. w8 sounds rather canny and is muddling e.g. bass lines.

I pointed of much of the same characteristics comparing V6A and W7 the other day under the SQ section. Soft bass. Not much response from that thread.

V6A is much clearer and defined than W7. And if W8 is the same PB structure as W7 the "problem" has moved on to it.

Hmm ... I was already answering to your topic LydMekk, but then I found that what you are saying here is (or must be) unrelated to what Fidelo says. Unless you can find "your sound" in 0.9w-5. IOW, you are talking about a much older version ...
13656  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: w-8 problem on: January 19, 2009, 05:24:57 pm
After some moving of topics and posts heat ...

Hi Leif,

If this is Attended, do you actually see the selection bar moving with it ? (can't imagine this)
And did you have it more often ? is it repeatable for you ?

Thanks,
Peter
13657  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / w-8 Sound problem on: January 19, 2009, 05:11:58 pm
FYI :

(and please note I wrote this before your comments about -6 and -7 being equally "worse")

09w-8a is lacking something of which I thought in advance it might change sound, although there is no way I can recognize why.
YET.
So, if it "solves" the problem for Fidelio I can start to believe that - whatever it is I left out now - indeed does matter.
Note that it would be the second time that this "thing" influences, and a second time is enough for me.

Btw, this is XXHighEnd only, which doesn't produce the sound. Certainly not with Unattended ... secret

I didn't hear Fidelio talk about 0.9w-6 or -7, so I assume he never tried that. If his problem is already in -6 and -7, this -8a certainly won't help a thing.

Furthermore this 0.9w-8a should help Kuo-Yao's problem with "No Track given", although I myself can still let things go wrong to that aspect.

Not much response from that thread.

Oh. I sure wanted to, but got the idea that you were waiting yourself to be more conclusive.
So now I am going to pay attention to your posts overthere.  Happy

Fidelio,

Can you tell whether below XXHighEnd.exe makes a difference ?
Just copy the .exe over your current XX folder (and save the old XXHighEnd.exe).

Thanks,
Peter

Fidelio, is that at Attended ?

... dunno

Thank you Dave. I really don't know what happened at creating the Zip for 0.9-8w. I can hardly imagine that I created the Zip and then changed the code. But somehow I must have done that anyway ...
13663  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 19.5 volume setting on: January 19, 2009, 07:22:51 am
Can you try below version of XXEngine3 ?
It shouldn't work either because I didn't change anything in that area. But the compilation date now 100% is after the date of 0.9w-8.
Btw, of course I rechecked the code, and that definitely has been corrected (on the date of 0.9w-8 ... I don't register times nea).

Attended or Unattended ?

(removed the test from 4 mins ago in this post)

From what date/time is your XXEngine3.exe ?
