Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Time Preference index & Nervous rate

Hi Shreekant, First an easy answer ... 2) nervous rate setting suggested is 100 for the stealth comp. I do not have the stealth comp, but I'am using the settings of stealth. should I keep the nervous rate as 1 or 100. Let's first off say that the 100 runs a bit cooler. However, although this seems Stealth related, it isn't. This is merely about how often the system adjust things, thinking about processor (cycle) speed. Thus, the lower the number, the faster the system adapts to "the" situation of the moment. This could sound better. On the other hand, the more often the system adjusts, the more "nervously" all could sound, because the sound changes all the time (like 1000s of times per second). When the other end of the extreme is taken, and adjustment takes place in once per second or so only, a. the system is too late with a required adjustment and could be "squeezed" somewhere while b. the sound is more consistent. Of course a. and b. conflict to some degree at least, however, when all is hogged for SQ with Q3,4,5 to 1, what's squeezed should be the other processes (not sound related) in the system. And so we have another "nest" of related settings without clear result in advance, and which you may find out yourself when you have some spare time. I always use 100 with the Stealth, but I also don't try anything else. I use Q3,4,5 at 1 because it sounds better (more clear, more crispy). Regards, Peter

Some people in other places *that dont use xxhe* swear by it sounding better than w10. Well, we better regard that BS because FIRST you/we must find places elsewhere, where people really differentiate between W8, W8, W8.1, W10, W10 all the builds etc. etc. And there is one place only where this differentiation is made and explicitly discussed. So ? Peter

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 2.09 sound quality

Because of my limited memory I have to use VERY LOW SFS so this interests me particularly. Hi Telstar, Yes, I can see that you are low on memory ... if the previous posts already have been shifted out ... Btw, an SFS of 0.08 or 20.0 really won't make a difference for your free memory. It both consumes about nothing (think 100MB for the 20.0). Regards, Peter

All my other settings are Peter’s current defaults. Hey Todd ! ... Yeah, well, um ... Scheme = Core 3-5 That's in my sig. But that was NOT was I was using. Somehow I was using 1-3. I don't know when or where that happened, but it must be for a long time already. Yesterday I tried SFS=20.19 again. Well, right from the start it sounded robotic, and it didn't last for a minute. Then I started thinking : what if I'd change completely different settings from usual. Let's try to change the Core Appointment. OK, I did so (from 1-3 to 3-5) and right away I wondered whether that 1-3 actually was "my setting". Only just now in my sig I found it apparently was not at all. Do I care much ? ... Right after the change yesterday, some weird things were happening. The most apparent was "drive". Soon later I thought that the PRaT was abnormal, suddenly. Then I discoverd for the next tracks that all what has been "so-so" but OK, suddenly was wildly good. I thought of having ended up in some trance, but couldn't recognize that for real. Meanwhile it must have been the best couple of hours ever. Really so ! Btw, still on SFS=10.19 but this is not important at this moment. That is, in the mean time I also applied something else which implies more "sparkle", but I won't tell what it is, yet. And Q5 to 3 eh ? ... ok ... will try that. Cheers, Peter

Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: NOS1a and HQPlayer on Win 10

Hi there Mr without name ... First things first : Install the Driver properly. I assumed that happened (Unsigned Drivers must be allowed etc.). Then actually first off, if you select in the NOS1 Control Panel for Device "Stereo Reduced" (and not the default Multi Channel 4.0) *and* you set Sw#5 in the Up position, you have a regular DAC for its interfacing means. Nothing strange, nothing odd. IOW, your first task is to get HQPlayer working in that normal mode, and this is already challenge enough (which I really can't help of course). And be in Normal OS all the time. And have the UAC ENabled ! (set that via XXHighEnd, via RightClick on the Stop button). And disengage that two wire thing in HQPlayer. Let us know when you've got this working. Or when you can't. Best regards, Peter

which means spending two hours to tweak the OS back to its basic form, without the add-ons and default settings. Hi Joseph, Not sure whether this is useful for you, but personally I never "tweak" anything in the OS any more (I stopped doing that with Windows 10). However, the Minimized OS of course still does all and more (with Windows 10 than before). So maybe you have some personal tweaks that help SQ, but then I wouldn't know about them. Of course there's the installing of things around XXHighEnd. That already could take an hour or more, easily. Regards, Peter
