Title: Running Win8, XXHE shows 32bit WinXT
Post by: CaOd on August 14, 2013, 08:34:15 pm
Dear all,

more strange things on my end... or maybe quiet normal?

I have a clean install of Win 8 on a 64 bit machine, activated XXHE, run the Win7 shell, but XXHE says its running on 32bit WinXt...

Any idea? I think I saw Win8 in XXHE yesterday... And the Metro shell came back on after rebooting (computer shut down due to battery draining last night...)

Thanks Carsten

Carsten,

This can happen, but should not;
If you boot into Normal OS, I assume it is all right again. If you then boot into MinOs, is it then back to wrong ?

Thanks Peter,

yes, it goes back to reading Win8 when booting into normal and is ok when then booting into MinOS. So it seems to be all ok.

Just sometimes Win8 shell comes up unintended, running the Win7Shell program again brings back Win7, so I hope everything is ok.

Is it correct, that the task manager shows all programs of XXHE (XXHE, Engine 3, HKey) as 32 bit?

Thanks Carsten

Yep, the XXHE programs are 32 bit in order to be compatible with all features possible.

What I noticed with the Metro Desktop coming back on is that this can happen with the wrong Explorer instance used. So, don't use File Explorer but Explorer. You can find the .exe for that in the folder you denoted installing the W7 Shell (which you kept default).
But notice that it is not completely clear to me what you said about "brings back W7".
