166  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHighend does not allow higher sample rates on: January 02, 2012, 06:22:56 pm
Hi Peter,

in the menatime I tried the possible combinations with XXHighend 0.9-z-61 and 0.9-z-61, Juli Driver 1.06 and 1.07. My system behaves always the same: After installing XXHighend and Juli driver the system plays the FLAC-files with the different sampling rates - but there is no music. Now the strange thing: After doing some (meaningless) work in the Windows System Driver Setup of the Juli 44,1 KHz music is playing but higher sample rates are not allowed. Aditionally I receive the message regularily, that the requested interrupt latency could not be configured ...

167  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / XXHighend does not allow higher sample rates on: January 01, 2012, 07:23:59 pm
I played a lot of music with standard CD resolution (I did not miss high resolution Wink ) and tried higher sample rates today. Even though DAC is defined correctly in the settings XXHighend shows the message: "Device allocated but can't play". I made a clean install of Windows 7 64 Bit SP1 as recommended and the system is using the Juli-Driver 1.2.1. Did I miss something? Are there any debugging hints?

After all I changed from Windows XP to Windows 7. Now I understand the term "XP dinosaur" Grin There is a huge jump in music reproduction quality immediately audible with my coax speakers. Just hearing the Hugo Masters of classical Chinese music and I Ching Drum Record of Classico - phantastic ...

Thanks, Peter

That's a very interesting discussion! The sound engineers in the recording studios must be faced with the same problems (depending on mains?). How do they asure the correct environment?

As I have seen in Articles the mains supply is very good planned. At first they are using the three mains phases for different electronic devices: The first for audio-devices, the second for video and the third for "ordinary" devices. Then the voltage is stabilized by a mechanic or magnetic stabilizer and at least an active filter ist used sometimes supplemented by a passive filter additionally.

Hi Peter,

I did not upgrade to Windows 7 but are using Windows XP from the beginning until today. I picked up all the interesting things of the discussions and graded up carefully - RAM disk now, switched back to special mode and the last version of XXHighend. There was always a remarkable evolution of the music production. I did not play with the Q factors and was not looking for "analog" sound. I trusted in the efforts you made in digital software. 4 months ago I got a big LP collection, had to clean all the media, hear them and classify them for my own reference. After months I came back to XXHighend - and have been overwhelmed by the music reproduction again. You are on the right track - and I wish you all the best to move on!

Hi Marcin,

a year ago or so I posted some information about my NOS harddisk - years old, 142 Mbytes of capacity and really, really slow. It's running since then in my computer   very happy

Hi all,

if you can't wait there is a little tool (XP for free) which tries to set the maximum possible resolution of the default windows timer.

Good luck!
174  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Save settings in a profile on: June 04, 2010, 05:01:34 pm
Hi Peter,

is it possible to admin different settings with profiles in XXHE? It would be a nice feature when testing different soundcards, DACs. Sometimes there could be different settings for different types of music ...

I know that I'm hearing with a very good loudspeaker. Until version 9z I didn't know that I own a little gem! The main change from my point of view is exceptional coherency of the music. Playing quiet or loud - the air is full of flageolet, breathing of the musicians, noises of live performances (moving chairs, scrabble of shoes), plucking with the plectrums and much more. I disconnected the bass horn for a lot of music because it isn't necessary anymore!

Hi Peter,

that's right - starting from that time (sometimes with a delay of months or years) there was one type of the RIAA curve standard. But a lot of the good records are pressed on vinyl before  Wink But there is a cutting machine at the end of the process, mostly Neumann cutting machines. They invented another cutting time constant (50 KHz roll-off) which is part of most newer LP's. It is implemented in the aquvov phono preamp -- http://www.aqvox.com/phono.html --

Hi Bjorn, hi Peter,

there is not only one RIAA curve. As implemented by behold company there are "RIAA, RIAA (IEC), TELDEC, AES, Columbia LP M33, NAB,
NARTB and London M33+M45". This is the only product I know which should be near your wishes Bjorn --  http://www.behold.eu/page.php?en32118 --.

Hi Roy,

I can find out the manupulation only if there is a chance to compare original master and it's "smart daughters". But it is easy to fool our brain. For example some records got that fantastic recording room and  - it's synthetical in fact. Once in a while I'm recording music from the street - it never sounds at home the same. But adding some special electronic effects will do the job partly. There is only a handfull of magic moments when a record is really good without manipulation. But who will find this records and make them available?

Hi Peter,

tried immediately and will stay with it. I will post some test tracks next time - so much more to hear. Awesome. But there is some additional sports too when trying to get optimal gain for the different tunes  Wink. Is it possible to save the optimal gain with the tracks?

I got one build in an old IBM pc - but DOS and Micropro software occupies 80% of its capacity (10 MByte). Additionally I got a spare one, it's really New Old Stock  Wink
