I am just reporting that in my 32 bit laptop system all is working fine , very fine .

Stefano, that is great news and a relief (on my side). I still want to emphasize that -at least at this moment- people should be cautious. As we say in dutch : one swallow doesn't make summer.

Hey Stefano, what processor is in your laptop? Thanks

Am for the first time listening to Straight Contiguous, SFS 165. With all other versions the most I could go  was 50, and  then it was too much trouble to keep it going.

It seems that when I get close to the SFS limit the "Stop Monitor" button gets less reliable. A second or two after the music starts the desktop reappears. If I then lower the SFS enough it stops happening.

Also, regardless of the SFS, there have been a few times when I heard a tick and then the  XX wallpapaer appears with no cover art but with all the track titles. Don't know if this last "bug" should be in a new topic.

Again, don't know if this is a 32 bit issue, but since no one has mentioned it I'll assume it is. I am currently listening with SC and a SFS of 350. The monitor off is working too.

At start up this a.m., with the SFS at 165, SC, I received a "lower the SFS" message. Lowering it didn't help, same message over and over. I then changed to MC with my usual SFS of around 200. All worked well. I immediately changed back to SC, SFS 165, and it worked too.

I then rebooted the computor to start from the "beginning" and had the same problem: If I tried to play SC first I'd get the "Lower the SFS" error. But if I switched to MC, played it for a second or two, then switched to SC, SC worked. Not only does it work using this "procedure" but I didn't receive the error message again until I had raised the SFS to 405. I have backed it off to 350 and all is working fine, including the monitor off button.

Also, I used the "off" button after each instance of getting the "Lower the SFS" error, and then hit play.

Hope this makes sense.

I actually start to wonder what it takes in a person to over and over come up with a supposedly totally unimportant and insignificant thing we call "SFS", while so much already sprung from that, and probably more will ...

Is it lawyer related ?
You must be gifted with some special properties ...

One thing I like to know : When you trief playback this morning and received that message (Lower etc.), was Engine3 supposed to be still running (like I say it can) ? or was this after a first boot (I think you always shut off the PC at night, right ?)

Anyway, there will be a bug somewhere. I will look into it ...

Please, pass this on to my wife, she doesn't believe me when I tell her.......... :)

Yes, I power down at night, so the "lower the SFS" error occured from a first boot this morning.

Hey guys,

I am getting more and more curious to try out Z6, but am a bit cautious about the requirements.
1) So, I have 32-bit W7 with SP1 RTM and few updates running on 5 year old Core 2 Duo CPU (not laptop). Do I better remove SP1 before I run Z6?
2) Wasn't it so, that W7 without SP1 (RC or RTM) sounded somehow wrong and then we all moved to Vista. I assume then that Z6 does something different if it needs W7 without SP1.

Regards,
Ivo

Peter,

Got it. Thanks.

Will remove, listen to Z5 and then put Z6 to feel the DIFFERENCE :)

Hi Ivo,

noticed you're probably running the E6300 still, and depending on how low you have your Q1 set, and whether you oversample you may still be OK with 0.9z-6. I think 0.9z-6 has tipped my slightly overclocked E8400 over the edge for speed but it's hanging in for the most part.

Not gonna harm to give it a whirl on your current PC though.

Cheers,

Russ

Yes, I run still E6300. Q1=1, QAP, buffer @ 1024. 3 GBs of RAM. CPU remains cool and underutilized.

Thanks for comments.

OK, so yesterday night uninstalled all updates from my W7, so at the end have some 3 KBs on top of vanilla W7 that are not possible to remove. At least from UI.
Besides, removed all unneeded SW and antivirus as well.

Launched XX Z52 with the same settings like before and:

1) SQ has improved, that is true.
2) Frequent gaps occur during playback for 2-3 seconds every minute or so. Maybe need to change some settings. Will see tonight. Or maybe a switch to Z6 will resolve that.

OK. Yesterday, got Z6 on my W7 32-bit and it works! Minimize OS works great, no single problem.

But for better understanding:

When I was listening to music in MinOS mode, I got in RAM still 20 processes and 13 services. Question: Is it still necessary to use "KeepThisService" and "KeepThisProcess" like in Z52? I actually have not tried runnning Z6 leaving those empty, just used settings from Z52 regarding this.

Although listened yesterday just over headphones, seems that sound has really progressed!!! Thank you Peter indeed!!!

Ha, great !

Nothing changed about KeepThisService etc., because this is related what you might like to keep on running.

I will admit (now) that what we are working with (0.9z-6) is only half of the deal; Although this is merely related to laptops, later, more of it will again be shutoff, encouraging for more to have in KeepThisEtc. because it will (then) be PC dependent on what you will need. But for now it may be your anti virus and stuff you'd like to keep anyway (or better put : which may prevent your system from properly running when it is installed and active anyway).

But in the end : no changes in this area.

Peter
