Title: Not able to minimise OS
Post by: ed linssen on March 01, 2013, 01:22:22 am
Did you activate and minimise the OS?

I am not able to minimise OS. Program says : make back up first. OK! But than it tells me I did not make up a virtual disk??
This did not happen in W8. What to do?
Thanks for a solution,
Ed

Hi Ed,

About the backup - does this message pops from the taskbar (at the right) ? If so, this comes from Windows.

As for the Virtual disk... Do you have a playback drive defined in your settings ?

Hi Alain,
I just updated my signature. Was about time!
I don't have a playbackdrive defined. And it is not a windows message. So I need an extra HD or what?
Until now I always worked like this,
 being happy...hahaha!

I think I have to (re)read the manual a few times and find the solution. I understand that a ram-disk could do the job as well. I'll dive into it tomorrow,
Thanks for now,

Ed

Hi Ed,

From your sig, I don't seen anything strange... This backup thing and the message about virtual playback drive are new for me, but I wonder: have you tried without "Stop all services" ? I can't use it for the moment, since I need networking and remote desktop...

Hope you will tell us how it goes :)

Alain

Hey Ed, don't start doing strange things which undoubtedly are unrelated. But in any even start coughing up some decent message instead of something like "not making up a virtual disk". So, what this is literal message you receive, and exactly when do you receive it ?

Hi Peter,

The first message after clicking "Minimise O.S" is:
Create Restore Point!

The second message is:
Restore Point can not be created because the Virtual Disk
Service is not running. This can be the case when your system is in Min. O.S. mode! (?)

Third message is:
Continue anyway? (Yes or No)

Than I nod my head from left to right and reversed and choose : "No"
And thus I am back at the first step...

Any idea?
Thanks, Ed

Ed,

So, this Virtual Disk Service (which is "vds") apparently *is* not running. But why and how ? beats me. It should. That is, being in Normal OS it should.

Because this is not a normal situation (for Normal OS !!) maybe this will not (!) work, but try it :

Go via TaskManager and Performance tab and from there to the Services button. In the Services List, find Virtual Disk Service, go to Properties and in there set the "Disabled" you should see to "Manual" (or "auto", also good). Next Start the service (there will be a button for that).

But if there is more going on this won't work. And next ? no clue.
But let me know what happens.

Peter

PS: Which OS is this ?

PPS: Are you sure you are in Normal OS ? this can be VERY confusing with the OS in this state of yours ...

PPPS: You can always press Yes on the last message you layed out. It may even be better regarding my PPS above. And when that works go back again. Then all should be in a consistent (and understandable) state.
Hopefully. :)

Hi Peter,

What worked eventually was NOT making the backup and answering Yes in the last message.
I can undo it as well and go back no 'normal state'.

(I did not want to continue at first because with W8 I was not able to get back to standard O.S. mode and had to setup XXHighEnd from the start including the Activating thing!)

Hi all!

This the first time I do Min. O.S. in W7.on 8.2.
I must say it does quite a lot with SQ!
Thank you for this (Best Ever) music player. ('music player' sounds far to cheap though!)
Back to listening....

That should not be the Performance tab but the Services tab. :sorry:
