Guys, I just thought of this :

This is actually about the proof to myself that whatever I do in this ICT world turns out to be just right, without me knowing it at the moment it's designed. Fishy
Yea, the fishy is there for a tiny disclaimer at talking about myself this way. Happy

Think about ticking the box "Standard copy to XX-drive" ...  biglol

Think about ticking "Start Playback during conversion" ... too much !

See ? All would just work.
That would be more illegalish though ... swoon

Roy, I'm not hijacking your topic, right ?
hmm ...

What will be the next medium for audio.

Nah, don't think so.

Edit :

Also, the Copy to XX-drive actually won't do much. It even would be counterproductive, if you incorporate the "Split file at size" parameter. Set that lower, and maybe a new parameter for the time allowed for the file part to arrive (because of the slower connection), make the first part extra small, and playback starts within 3 seconds.
13277  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: The Future of Music ? on: April 03, 2009, 12:29:22 pm
At first I thought about moving this topic to Chatter, had in my mind it was in the "DAC connection" board, next thought to gave it a twist in that direction, while I now see it is in Source related subjects. Ok, I can still give it that twist I think ...

Back in 2004 (or maybe 2003) I bought one of the first (if not the) network players around. So, a Momitsu DVD player with ethernet connection, and it sounded better compared to my usual CDPlayer. Controlling it was tedious, and the TV had to be on for it. Ok.

Since such a device connects through IP, I thought to bring this to another kind of level, and instead of connecting the player to a PC of my own providing the files, I connected it to a PC of a friend living 50 kilometers away. And there it was ... I could use the network player to select all his music ... and play it. Not that this is NOT streaming, and it is just a connection like a hdd, but the hdd resides some further away. This is not jitter impeeded, because it is just about normal computer data.

I set that up like a gadged, mainly because I didn't hear of it, and anything which possibly can't be done ... of course can. Happy
Oh, this was about MP3s only, because the bitrate of uncompressed music would not allow to play over the 256Kbs upload my friend had at that time.

If we think in this direction, and we'd know that a connection like this can be made to you and you and you and you and everybody, *and* this is most probably not even illegal, who needs another storage medium, if this topic was about that in the first place.
Mind you, this was before XXHighend ages, and this topic just reminded me of that trials again. But now there is XXHighEnd, and one of its big hidden features is make known to "you" what music I have ...

Before thinking further, for someone like me, today this still can't work. I can play your albums Roy, but you can't play mine. The highest upload I can obtain is 1000Kbs, and it is a 50% too few. Besides, when I'd have, say 2000Kbps, still one connection only would be allowed. The bandwidth just doesn't allow one other.

I see people think : but this is not special and this is not new, and what is the difference with downloading etc.;
Well, there really is a difference, but it is hard to explain. It is more something of a feeling. Try to imagine this :

Right now we are making Galleries from our several TB disks, right ? We can choose the individual Galleries, but we can also look at all together when th structure is right. This is all "off line" so to say. It doesn't need any of the connections implied here. Only when an album is chosen to play, the connection will be made.

And it is all 100% in there already, which nobody realizes because it just requires that special connection (which is not common at all !) and which anyone can make (once explained). It would be running tonight, really ...

I never thought about it anymore, and the only thing you could say is that the principles in there comply. They comply to how I think things should work, and hey, it wouldn't be the first time I (and some personnell around me) introduce something for a first time.
In this area it is about infinitly connecting the world, which btw Bill Gates understood very well with his type of connection we today call RDC, before was called RDP, and which in beta (could be 1998) was named Hydra and which I/we beta tested for. Long before that (maybe 1992 or so) another type of direct connection was misused by me, and although way too slow, people from Japan and the US were all over, to see what was done and how it worked. I just tried to find that hardware to look up the name, but I can't find it right now. Anyway, MS bought that, and the name Hydra sprung right from it.

I'm just into transparently connecting the world, and here is the application !

Allright, functionally things are not much different from listening to internet radio, or internet TV, but because of the technical different means the connection is setup, XXHighEnd is just suitable for it. Besides, I'd be just playing your music. I'm not downloading, and maybe I'm streaming (technically that would be so, but more technically streaming is about larger buffers and buffering, like internet TV).

Anyway, just imagine the infinit amount of albums we'd have access to. Hundreds of thousands (with some doublures), and for 100% sure the ones I never play are legal. Haha.

But my upload speed is too low ... Cry
13278  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: The Future of Music ? on: April 03, 2009, 11:34:28 am
Russ, careful here. Roy (AUDIODIDAKT) is some lightyears ahead of us, and he travels to near the speed of light. As long as this is so, he will be more and more ahead of us, and we will understand less and less. I mean, the other day I learned that this lucky bird has an internet connection of 100Mbit UPLOAD and I was startled. I didn't know it was possible in these low lands. But in a small area it just is.

So there I am with my 300Kbps upload.
Whatever technology I personally may find, I'd need to move first in order to spread it.
Sort of.

Haha, but you may wonder how the copy right stuff works here. I send you a photo and you use it as music. Your fault. You should have put it to the wall. That was my intention.

I can't find in this version of XXHE the X3 log files in the temp dir. Only XX files!

I guess it started allright, but never came to opening its log file (this is not the very first thing, because first it has to read a dat file in order to see if logging is needed).
With Taskmanager you can see whether it started though (sort on name so the Z is on top).

Well, the least I can do now is look for those deletes and whether they are used opposed to 09x-5b. This is simple. It is less simple to ever keep on thinking about your "problem", and it is annoying for you of course. It is sport though to find the culprit and claim a victory if possible.

You may have the X3 log files from your last session ? Then I can see how far it got, I hope.

If those files are to be converted, you might switch off "Start Engine3 during conversion" to test.
Setting the Appointment scheme to Nothing, as well as the priorities to Nothing (and reboot after that) is another thing to try.

I had also soundproblems in 09x-5 and i was not the only one.....

Yes, but those things can/could be explained, and if you follow everything closely you'll see that I am earlier to admit that something is wrong than most users. This (about the earlier logfile not being consistent with what your screen tells) is now the, well, howmaniest thing I just can't explain ?
Point me to one other user with situations I can't explain, and I'll admit that I don't understand a bit of computing. But you can't. It is only you, and always you. Your PC of course. Happy

Johan, I am waiting for the day that you get so annoyed that you will give up and are mad at me. I don't want that, and you (yes you) don't deserve that.

Do yourself a favor, PLEASE, and find some neighbour or friend, bring XX, use the settings you are used to and just see that it will work there (but in demo mode, so not everything will be the same).

In the end there is a slight other problem perhaps. You are one of the best to discover problems, or at least report them honestly. This is good, if not the best what I want. But when it comes down to diving into the merits of things (what actually causes what) you just may not know all, and btw, nobody asks you to. Not me anyway. However, if you, like the last time, *do* switch your processor to low energy mode, but do not know the consequences, or cannot recognize that this is special, better not turn on those kind of settings. You might have more. I don't know.

I have proven that you have rights problems, and I have asked you (maybe a year ago now) to DO something about that. You did not. Well, what if I again have used such a delete function your special system can't cope with ? maybe I have, I don't know. The program is full with "To solve JohanZ's problem". And believe it or not, only your name is in the program.
I have proven that your file system responds like a 8 Mhz XT from 30 years ago. Is that solved ? did you test ? I don't know. I also -now !- can't tell whether that log file entry would have come up after the more than 25 seconds you waited for it. It just as well can, because in other situations the same things happen. And mind you, writing a log file (being a text file) is 100% the same as writing a dat file which Engine3 needs. When it's not there in time ... there's your message. Why now and not before ? probably because I used something your system can't bear.
My fault ?

Again, find one other person who has the same. This is the most convenient for finding out what's wrong in your systems.

Maybe you will believe me that it is getting hard for me to not think in the direction of your PC problems. I know they are just there, and it is not much logical to start looking for problems in the software when they probably just are not there because they are in your PC. But I hope I keep on judging right and honestly.

Earlier I said I wouldn't give up, and I won't. But things really stop when your log files can't even be written to.
Please find that neighbour Johan ...

13283  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Alt-N stops sound on: April 03, 2009, 12:47:26 am
oops

Yeah, well, the problem is that it is not only about Alt-P itself, but also about when it is used, what happens right after it, what happened before it, whether the the GUI is there or not, wheter I find it useful to allow for Alt-P while music is playing, in which situations it sure is, and whether I can even imagine people doing completely illogical things or that they possibly are not illogical at all if I'd only thought about what it is about.
wacko

But at least I try ... Happy
Below you can see I can fight myself, and that a change from today (well, yesterday by now) caused exactly this problem.
Not that *I* have this problem ... this is only with you of course, because another kazillion parameters play a role.

The actual problem, of course, is that too many combinations exist to ever be able to test;
With normal programming near all would have been setup completely different, like "avoiding redundancy" would be rule number 1. Here this can't be, because sound would degrade from that. So, a 24 bit file plays in different code from a 16, from a 44100 from a 48000 etc. and an e.g. Volume = 0 is yet another dimension. Nothing is normal here, and at knowing that while changing the volume a complete different file is played without notice, BUT, if I'm one byte off only your coffee is spoiled again ... well, nice project.

It goes on and on, like I discoeverd this afternoon that it really is stupid when Alt-N brings up the whole services thing again, and the lot flashes all over. So, in a few minutes I could tweak that, but of course I never thought of people doing that when they first brought up XX and *then* use Alt-N. But you can try it, it's in there. innocent watch your coffe though ! innocent

Well, finishing the whiskey here, and sleeping.

13284  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Alt-N stops sound on: April 02, 2009, 08:38:28 pm
For those who are bothered by this, below is an XXHighEnd.exe to stuff over your current XX folder.
13285  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHE 09x-6a errors on: April 02, 2009, 07:29:45 pm
Uh-ohhh

Johan, if this log file is the actual one from that session ... at 17:57:07 things go wrong in a way which is not possible.
In the program *or* a message that Engine3 started must appear, *or* a message "No Engine3 running message received" must appear. This latter is right above the message "Engine#3 did not start ..." as you showed, but that log entry is not there. THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE.
But in your case it is.

I don't know what to do with it. aggressive

The only thing I can say (without sense though) is : maybe that ö in Esbjörn creates problems ? It shouldn't, but who knows ...

I can't imagine that you have a 1000 other problems with this PC ...

Ok, you might post the test01.log file (in the current XX folder) after another attempt. It may show the wrong sound device selected ...
But even if so, it is impossible that the message is on the screen while the log entry is not there. If I ever had such things on my PC I'd stop with computers instantly. I mean it.
13286  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Alt-N stops sound on: April 02, 2009, 11:46:18 am
Hahaha, yes we are, but this time you can't follow me. Just for fun, and because you want to know of course :

When you'd install XX for the first time, the volume will initialize at -120dB. It's hard coded in the program.

When you set the volume to whatever setting you like, this setting is saved when you Quit XX.

When XX is brought up, first that -120dB comes up, but next your saved settings tell to set it to -in your case- 0.
--> Here is the culprit in the Bill Gates ideas (and which bothered me before at the Picture sizes and all), and the -120dB should never be seen anymore. So what happens ?

In the code there is an "event" trigger, and it says "when the volume is changed to/from 0, this is not allowed when Engine3 is playing".
But as you can see above, this just happened because of the initialization.

Not a big deal, because the event code should start with "bail out when at Initialization". And Initialization is the process where at first the -120dB is set, and next the saved settings direct it to 0.

So, I'm sure now you'll understand.
And you'll also understand better why I thought the other way around, which was about my assumption the volume is initialized at 0. It just is not. And so, now you - and even me Happy understand why I don't have the problem, because when the init is at -120, and for me it goes to -24, all is right.

And then to think of this is all a temporary solution only ... dancing
13287  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Alt-N stops sound on: April 02, 2009, 11:11:08 am
Aha, NOW I understand. So in the end indeed what happens is what I expected (to be wrong) with one misassumption : the Volume is initiated at -120dB instead of -0 (in my mind was the latter).

Ok, easy to solve (and easy to create another problem out of that hehe).

Thank you for your time Russ.

13288  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Alt-N stops sound on: April 02, 2009, 10:35:41 am
Ah ... I am (was) thinking the other way around. Of course ... you have the volume at 0 and will get to -1.5.
I have it at -24 and I though at some initializing process it would detect 0 at first before jumping to 24 and next to what I asked for.

Right, now I understand.

Ehh ... no, I don't. swoon
You have the volume at 0, and press Next (Alt-N) ... that doesn't change the volume, does it ?
wackowacko

I'm sorry, but I don't get it yet !
13289  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Hot Keys installation 09-x6a on: April 02, 2009, 10:29:21 am

I get permission denied when I try and delete the current hot key folder...which is another way of saying - how do I get up level administrator privileges.....?? It's different to 'root' in linux I understand.

I can't be sure because I don't know what you did (and how) to create that folder, but I would try to start Explorer "as Administrator" (rightclick on the Explorer icon, and choose "Run as Administrator"). And then try again ...

I have shut off UAC (Vista/SP0 here) and I actually am not bothered anymore by such things. But generally, for Vista, keep in mind that "levels must match". This example makes perfectly clear what I mean (I think) : when you run XXHighEnd as administrator, but with Explorer you don't, it is not allowed to drag files from Explorer to XXHighEnd.
Similar happens with copying files to certain areas, and for sure this happens when you create a folder "as administrator", but later want to delete it as not.

If you keep this strategy in mind, you will be able to find out what to do.
Next is that you will come to the conclusion that all is unworkable, which would be correct IMO.
So, shutting off UAC is the only real solution.

pps any chance of adding a shortcut in your left click mouse menu of "Play in XX High End" and "Enqueue in XX High End"

I can tell you that the other day I thought of a way on how to do it outside an official install (see Russ's words). I only didn't get to it yet.

At first I thought "yep, true, what I did would incur for that", but then I realized that I have been using Alt-N yesterday at this version. I did this at Unattended and by using a remote (but the latter would not matter, it's virtually using the keyboard).

How did you do it ?
