Title: Unable to engage " stop remaining services " in W8
Post by: stefanobilliani on May 27, 2013, 10:26:43 am
In W8 , also with previous versions of the Player , when it try to engage " stop remaining services " in Unattended mode , it happens that the system just log out the user .

So after that I have to re-login in my account , and there is a message about a service that was unable to start so the user could not loging.

That's all . Any help?

Thanks

Stefano,

Is this in Minimized OS Mode ?

When not, I honestly don't think I ever tested this in Normal OS Mode. And I sure (now) can imagine this can not work at all (without changes on my side).

This is normal W8 now, right ? (not W2012)

Peter ,

I confirm normal W8.
It is happening either in normal OS or minimized OS.
To go in minimized OS , " stop remaining services " is required . Once in minimized OS , have to uncheck    " stop remaining services " to play Unattended .

Did you try "Shut off ALL Services" ?

Btw I now wonder ... did you install that W7 Shell ?
So really, I have always been testing with that active (which eliminates the Metro shell fully), so now I don't know what happens without that Shell.

Please let me know !

Please do, because it should be the culprit, and not the best "action" from my side ...

Thanks !

Ok ,

did try the W7 shell , and the thing still behave the same , giving the error reported in the picture below .

This error remains also at the next login unless a reboot is applied .

Sequence to apply :

- Be in Normal OS (and don't mangle with Services yourself);
- Set Shut off ALL Services in XXHighEnd;
- Boot into Minimized OS through XXHighEnd; Log in;
- Bring up XXHighEnd and start Playback in Unattended Mode (hence don't change anything else).

- Bring up XXHighEnd by means of Alt-x.

(- check whether you never see the Metro Desktop anywhere)

Please tell me exactly at which point you receive what problem.

Thanks,
Peter

I doesn't really change a thing . I boot into minimized OS , bring up XXHE without changes , press play in unattended and then soon after the system just log out the user automatically , then after the log in all is to bring up again , hot keys included .

Maybe I know what happened. But this is better to deal with through email (so, will make one for you soon to start with).

Will post the result of it here for others.

Outside the general problem : I am almost sure that this error message only pops up when the W8 normal Shell is active.
IOW : You must not only install the W7 Shell, but also activate it (switch to it) ...

:wacko:

We found that this was caused by Windows Defender running. So, kill that (outside of normal procedures) like XXHighEnd does it, and Windows thinks "hey, a virus is trying to kill me !", and logs out.

Windows Defender must be officially shut off, or when you want to let it run (not advised) then obtain it in the Services to Keep list.

Same thing happened to me, with a new Win 8 Pro build, using Win 7 Shell. Playback wouldn't happen in Unattend Mode and I received the same error msg as above. So did search for Windows Defender, turned it all off, no protection. Problem solved.
