Title: RDC Limited Range
Post by: Scroobius on August 22, 2012, 11:06:58 pm
I have remote control on my laptop via RDC up and running and it works fine. However I wanted to just use the laptop via the Bluetooth connection but I am finding a big restriction is the range of the Bluetooth. To get it to work I need line of site and I can only be a few metres (say up to 5) away from the PC.

So this is looking like a big restriction for me as I cannot use the laptop in my normal seating position which is 10m away.

I suppose I could place my laptop near the PC and then another laptop connected to it via wireless but that is not ideal.

Any suggestions welcome.

P

Maybe I will need to get a USB extension cable which will allow be to extend the USB transceiver from the PC into the room and nearer the remote control laptop

Paul, sorry I can't help you with your BT range issue, but you may just be able to help me with my issue. Have you got RDC working when the AudioPC in 'Minimize OS' mode? If so, did you have to do anything special?

Cheers, Mani.

Ah yes mine did not work at first in minimised. I had forgotten to select "PAN Services" and "Remote Control" to on in settings. I had also forgotten that I had to reconnect the BT Direct Connection when I rebooted the PC. When I did all of that it worked fine.

Hi Paul, no I've been doing that and have been getting a BT connection no problem. Thanks for the reminder anyway.

Mani.

Paul,

Having a USB (extension) cable in there first is a jolly good idea.
Otherwise I don't recognize thee 5m only. So, line of sight yes, but are the both dongles really seeing each other, or is perhaps the one in the main PC at the back of it ?
