Title: 09z-4 not playing
Post by: bgjohan on January 22, 2011, 09:41:06 pm
Peter

Upgrading from 09z-3 on my main computer worked OK (dual processors, 6GB RAM, Vista-64), but I have only played in Mixed memory mode so far (tried SFS= 40 and 100).

However, my laptop (single processor, 4GBRAM, Vista-32) and my older desktop (single pocessor, 2GBRAM, XP) both unable to play 09z-04.
General settings: Arc prediction, Adaptive, SFS 20, Q1=1, Q2-Q4=0, Scheme=2, Player prio=Low, Player prio= Real time,  Clock=Nothing, Memory= mixed, No RAMDISC)

Try to start playing Attended 44.1/16 (native, no upsampling) - player does not seem to find/convert file (same for MP3, Flac and WAV), nothing happens for 5 min., then message Engine4 did not start in time.

Try to start playing Unattended 44.1/16 (native, no upsampling) -player seems to read files (files greyed out), player gets out of view and I immediately get windows error message.

Attached print screen file from laptop (copied to Word) with error message, and log files for attempts using FLAC and WAV with laptop.

SQ with 09z-4 really enjoyable, despite only small computer speakers w. small sub connected to the larger Vista 64 desktop, where 09z-4 is working.
I have the laptop connected for listening in my main music system (via M-Audio Profire 610 external DAC) and will make better use of 09z-4 capabilities in that system, if we can get it working.

Best regards

Bjorn

Edit : Forget this post. See next one.

Hi Bjorn,

The only thing which comes to my mind is that you did not shut off UAC.
Notice : Before it what sufficient to start XXHighEnd with Admin Rights (Start as Admin) - and although with some hussle that still is possible, some Windows (?) upgrade has caused that shuttig off UAC is more safe (to let all run properly).

Can that be it ?

No, forget my previous post. Something has changed which wasn't worked out in full yet, and isn't properly "error trapped" in this version.
It anticipates on the "knowledge" of certain system processes which can't be accessed, but in your system (heard nobody else about it so far) there must be at least one process more that can't be accessed here. So, it is not in the list to skip, and now it errors out.

In the next version it will be covered for in general, but in the mean time ... would you be so kind to make a screencopy of all your processes in TaskManager ? If you don't feel like it, it's okay. It will only be for my knowledge so to speak, and all will survive without that.
If you do it anyway, also please tell what OS and version this is about.

Thanks,
Peter

Bjorn-- I don't know if this will help, but my Zone Alarm firewall was preventing 9z-4 from working-

symptoms were very similar to what you were experiencing.  Shut down Zone Alarm and

    9z-4 played fine

Peter

I have done some tracing of Processes and Services on my VISTA32 laptop - screen shots attached.

Both XP(32) SP3 machine, laptop VISTA32 and VISTA 64 desktop (where 09z-04 works) use AVG FREE as antivirus, Windows firewall (no add-on Firewall, execpt what is built-in to the Linksys router) and UAC off.
In respect of Audio, the non-working XP32 desktop and VISTA32 laptop are both set up with drivers to be able to connect external M-Audio 610 DAC via FW.
The VISTA64 desktop is using internal M-AUdio PCI Delta 192 card for audio in the computer room.

It seems to me that the Windows crash message indicates a conflict with Windows Diagnostics services.
In fact, my VISTA64 (Ultimate) desktop has had problems with a Windows Diagnostics servcies conflict for a few months now.
The LAN connection to the local home netework and Internet does not establish a connection immediately at boot-up; message to start WIN Diagnostic services manually to fix the LAN connetion, but requires 3-4 tries before Diagnostic services enagages and LAN connection gets established.
No similar indications of LAN connectioon problems (conflicts) with XP desktop or VISTA32 laptop - but maybe VISTA64 Ultimate just more thorough in its efforts ro prevent conflicts.
Anyway, to eliminate the possible problem from the LAN, instead of using 09z-4 to play music files on my central network HD, I played a FLAC file on the second partition on the HD on my VISTA32 laptop (WIN and XX on primary C: partition).

Same problem here.

I have upgrade from 0.9z-3 to 0.9z-4

Everything looks OK but 0.9z-4 will not start playing?

Bjorn, thank you for your extensive outlay. But I really think it wasn't necessary to go that far; the problem is known and can easily be fixed.

Btw, I see no real relation to any anti virus software, except for the probability that it won't allow itself to be manipulated (to the sense I'm doing here). That's just logic for anti virus software. That it may help to remove it for now, is up to whoever thinks it is worth it. But keep in mind, it's a general thing. IOW, besides anti virus stuff, it may be another process not allowing the manipulation concerned. Therefore : no guarantee. An upgrade will (if all is right).

I will try to put up an upgrade for it as soon as I have some time for it. First I have some other things to do ...

Peter

Glad to hear that you have identified the problem.
Thankful if you could elaborate a bit on what the problem is.
Is it problem only with 32 bit OS, as my Vista 64 bit machine works.

Best regards

Bjorn
