Title: What about two harddrives (and another sorting problem)
Post by: Gerard on October 02, 2007, 10:16:48 pm
Hello Peter,

With the latest version i have problems with showing all my cd's. From the 500 cd's xx only shows the cd's beginning with the letter a, b, c,.

Also it would be nice that you can show my collection from two hard drives. Now its only possible to ad one hard drive.

Grtz Gerard...

I Just count how many cd's are shown in the library and it are exactly 100 cd's....

Hi Gerard,

To start with your last post ... good that you mentioned that. You left the "Test" checkbox checked ...  :)
If all is right the ToolTip tells you that that will produce 100 items (max) in the result ...

Then about the two harddrives ... yes, I thought about that. In fact I already allowed for subsequently adding more to the result by changing the Music Root, but I found that to be no way of working and removed it.
The real solution obviously is that in the text field for "Music Root" you can enter a string of several roots, which all will be incorporated.
I will add that.

Note though that if you could start all over, it will be more convenient for other reasons to "span" the disks, and let them act as one volume.
But your request is legit.

Peter

Hoi Peter,

Yes that was the trick.... Now all the cd's are there....

You where talking about in the explaining of this latest version that it take's al long time to load them in. This would be less of a problem if xx does this automaticly when starting up. Maybe this is less time consuming????  :rules:

For throughput time it wouldn't matter. Besides that, maybe you don't want to use the Library features at certain times.

Note that one of the major problems is that the building up of the result can't be done in a separate "thread" and run parallel to anything else you are doing (but Engine#3 will keep on playing though). The stupid thing is that once the buildup is in it's own thread, the "main thread" will be free for adjusting the form with contents, then *that* holding up hugely.

That a form can't be stopped at receiving output is a dot-net failure, to which I so far did not find a solution. Documentation tells it works, but it just does not.
But give me some time ...

Hi Peter,

Whe where talking about  the above for a few days ago, I had a little problem with reading what you wrote at last... ( So excuse me if  your answer is a little bit the same like my question)

I have  another idea. Is it possible to make a  checkbox next to search botton in the library tab. I mean when you check this,  then ( when you programm this)  xx willl load all the cd's automaticly from the place you put in the music root. ( when starting up)

The idear behind that is that you wont have to do it manually anymore everytime. But if you like to do it you can uncheck the checkbox.... (90% of the time the music is coming from the same place)

grtzzzz

Good idea Gerard. But be careful that this doesn't bother. -> just check something briefly, but since the checkbox is ticked ... nothing briefly there.
So all 'n all I'm not sure, but it can't harm *me* to make it.

Gerard, note that theoretically you can do this now (0.9n) by means of creating a "main" Galery "All music", under which the data from both disks are created (2 minutes work I think).
Also note that you can "copy" again from a Galery to another Galery, so that this "All music" Galery really can serve you here.

Whether this is awkwardish for a solution I don't know. But anyway please note that another "more real" solution will give me sorting problems, hence that takes time to develop, and it can't have priority IMHO.

Hmm, Funny I missed all this.  Finally getting a handle on Galleries and thought I'd post.  I have my music, for now on multiple HDDs, and thought I could only look at one HDD at a time.  With Galleries, I found out only last night (yes, even after all I've done with galleries P), that I can add/save all my music to a single Gallery and when I load that gallery under the Library tab I see all my music and XXHE finds it on whatever HDD it is stored on.  Previously I thought it could only see one HDD at a time.  I should have figured this out sooner.  I finally thought about it, "Now, why did PeterSt make a root dir and a gallery dir search"? doh

Anyway, this more real solution is coming up now, as well as some more goodies.
Ah, and collecting it all at the speed of light (what about 1 second for 2500 albums).
Or 2 second search in 30,000 tracks.

:o
