Title: Dual Boot
Post by: Gerard on January 23, 2014, 03:50:20 pm
All,

Today i tried to put W7 in dual boot fashion on the PC. But that went wrong for a unknown reason. I already had W8 on the pc and made extra partitie on the HDD. I made the install on the extra partitie and after that the pc booted right away on W7.  :(

I guessed that i could make a choise between W8 and W7.

What did i do wrong?

Thanx

Try hitting F9 repeatedly at boot up. It will give you a screen to choose which OS to boot....

At least you have something working after a new installation... good to know that it is possible to install W7 with an active W8 OS.

With some luck W7 will be the better choice anyhow and you've got rid of W8 as a bonus!

Bert, Peter, I'm surprised at you, taking the piss out of a fellow countryman...or maybe just talking 'Double Dutch'.(Ha bloody Ha)
Gerard, try again using F8 instead & try the repair option, this might pick up your Win8 installation!?

Well Jack, not 100% sure what you mean, but at least I have never heard of F9 (didn't try either) but it seems to have helped Gerard. One thing : F8 sure does NOT work. Not Shift-F8 either, or alt or whatever everybody tells including F8 with upside down keyboard.
Installing the "legacy" boot menu does (help) though, but I think first other things are strange with the guy we pester so much. And anyway, your F9 does a job as it seems.
Or I misunderstood that ...

F8 works here! It offers various diagnostic boot options like safe mode & other ways of booting a troublesome OS. I have used it on 8,7, vista, XP,win2000 etc. Maybe you are not hitting F8 soon enough after turning on?

I am not sure what you are talking about... I only gave a serious reaction to his attempts and took a piss at W8.

We are not all thinking like you Jack! :innocent:

Jack,

It *can* work, but if it doesn't it just doesn't. Google for Windows 8 and F8 or something and you will see the rain of messages about it.

Regards,
Peter

But Gerard can do it in Win7......He should not need to in Win8. Oh the mysteries of Microshaft operating systems!
