Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Ohhhhhhhhh

Hi Peter,
Since the sound you hear is now your new standard of excellence, at least you know that this sound lies in some sort of state of the OS and XXHE... It is not possible to wait that long to get it, so maybe you should continue to investigate and find what allows it ?
Maybe make as many measurements as possible to picture this state and try to make it appear as you wish ? The running processes, the memory and network status, voltages, CPU, etc...
I was not aware that MS would hide some processes...
It may be a frustrating journey, but you have always been the most persistent "fighter" because of you search for perfection...

Hi Peter, sorry it I took time to reply...
Many years ago, my girlfrient subscribed to a satellite internet service. The maximum bandwidth per day was quite limited, the speed was not above 1.5 mbits and the latency was awful. Not to mention the cost each month plus the initial antenna and cable installation...
We have been way behind other countries for speed and the monthly fare are high as opposed to the U.S. It's probable that our low density of population could explain the fare...
Anyway, since I do not have the intention of streaming music (I have enough on my hard drive for quite some time), I should stick with that speed for a few years, even if I am aware that it can go beyond 100 mbits... I am trying to understand how a distant and busy server may send data at this speed (thousands of requests from everywhere) so I should be happy for a while...
Regards,
Alain

Hi Peter,
Are you talking megabits or Megabytes ?
I recently got 15 (download) and 15 (upload) mbits (with optic fiber up to inside the house), but to tell the truth, the difference with before shows only whn downloading a big file. For the rest, it looks the same as when I had 5mbits download...

Hi Peter, These are very good news !!! I certainly wish to add myself Just to be on the safe side: I am actually using a SSD to boot my system through an external enclosure, with Esata. I suppose that this would not be ok, since there will not be any application to allow a disconnection of the OS drive... So this means that we boot through USB right ? I will be able to work like this with what is also called a "toaster". It allows very easily to disconnect a drive. What will be the size of the disk ? Can it be a SSD ? I actually use a 120GB SSD drive for my music PC, but some SSDs have seen their prices drop up to .50 cents a GB. So a 240GB can cost no more that $120 (canadian)... I probably will have other questions, but with only one coffee, this is all I have to ask for the moment But I am excited, that is for sure ! Regards, Alain

Peter,
You mention that as soon as we have an "official" Windows 10 activated, we can't revert to whatever the OS version was ?
So if I had Windows 8 before... - That was cloned on another drive - Upgraded to Windows 10 (build 10074) (was not from a clean install) - If I put back my Windows 8 drive back in my PC
Will it still work and OR will it have been deactivated ?

Alain

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Ramdisk playback drive space allocation
|

Hi Peter,
As we know, there are 2 ramdrives created when we use that principle: - XXHighEnd (the entire XXHighEnd folder) on drive A:\ - Playback drive on drive B:\
I am not sure what the XXHighEnd ramdrive (A:\) requires to work properly.
So, for these different scenarios, is it possible to know when extra space is required: a) For WAV files only ? b) For FLAC files ? c) Other formats ?
This will help to understand better most of the requirements. Since the beginning I was under the impression that the XXHighEnd folder was not required to be as big as the Playback drive ?
My allocated space for each ramdrive is about the same as Juan...

Alain

Hi Michael, Like you mention, it is something that is stopped when in Min OS. I can't say much, since I do not own an Apple computer, but I suppose that someone using a system consisting of a similar configuration would chime in... Something that I do could also be to Google for similar attempts to acces Windows from an Apple product through SMB ? I don't feel very helpful saying the obvious, but it has helped me in many situations... Ah... Our audiophillia It can be frustrating at times, but it is so rewarding when we find a solution Regards, Alain
