Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Question about stability of data stream in adaptive mode

Peter,
I tried both versions 9zb and 9z1 on x1, x2 and x4, unattended and attended, on different buffers/latencies, different volumes, different Q1, and different temporary file size (60 and 100).
On some CDs - usually those consisting of separately recorded tracks - you can observe that resolution in bits shown on dCS DAC display drops from 24 bit to 0 at a very start of each new track just for a second. Then sometimes DAC needs to resynchronize - this however is not always the case. It needs to sychronize 100/100 on lower Q1, when you move up Q1 for on or two, it is more often but still happens quite often and this is annying (20/100 cases or so), because music is interrupted in this case.
Still DAC always shows 0 bits for a moment just at the beginning of each new track for some CDs...
I think you might be interested in this - see 8-9th second of the movie attached. You will see how dCS DAC behaves (in utattended) between tracks.
Another problem with dCS DAC is that, when I set volume - on XXHighEnd volume 0 -> dCS DAC shows resolution on 16 bits (XXHIghEnd shows 32 bit) - on XXHighEnd volume -1.5 -> dCS DAC shows resolution on 17 bits (XXHIghEnd shows 32 bit) - on XXHighEnd volume -3.0 -> dCS DAC shows resolution on 21 bits (XXHIghEnd shows 32 bit) - on XXHighEnd volume -4.5 -> dCS DAC shows resolution 24 bits (XXHIghEnd shows 32 bit) - on XXHighEnd volume -6.0 -> dCS DAC shows resolution 17 bits (XXHIghEnd shows 32 bit) and this is allways - mo matter what CD you play.
What do you think about it ?

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Question about stability of data stream in adaptive mode
|

Dear Peter,
I have a question. When playing in adaptive mode (no upsampling, 4x, unattended), my external DAC connected by dual AES loses synchronization and need to resynchronize when next track is starting. Do you have an idea why it is like that, and if something can be done to keep the data stream stable ?
Strangely, when I switch to the next track by hotkey, the external dac does not lose its synchronization to the sound card ...

Peter,
I have found a track that does not want to play at all on AntiImage 4x. When you press play, XXHighEnd does not react. This is 6-th track, Coming back to life, Pulse, Pink Floyd. Maybe this will help you to track the problem.

Peter,
I have found some tracks (non-HDCD) that does not play properly when using 4x IntiImage upsampling. I do not know if it is already known issue.
On attended the problematic track plays till specific point but seams to omit some data then - skips some data in the track.
On unattended, this track plays to specific point and then track is skipped to the next track. Looks like some data recorded on the track causes problems. I can forward the sample track if you want.
Thank you Jarek

The reason I wanted this, is that the DAC I am using in all setups. I have dCS and use dual AES. Dual AES works for higher frequencies only (not for 44.1). Also LYNX card does not output double AES for frequenices <176kHz. And finaly dCS does not accept on single AES more than 96kHz and it plays much better on dual AES than on sigle AES.
So, in my setup it would be more convenient for me to have always maximum sampling frequency (176400 or 192000 depending on the source material sample frequency). Otherwise I will have to switch dCS from double to single and from single to double, switch external clock serving dCS and LYNX to particular frequency and switch between 1x, 2x, 4x on XXHighEnd. Also I will have to analyze XXHighEnd what to set up, because without proper setup it will not play at all.
I understand everybody needs different, but maybe it is possible to satisfy everybody ?

Peter,
truly I do not try to use any filtering, since on previous versions I did not touch it. Any kind of filtereing in my setup destroyed the sound.
You are right about 24/32 bit. My mistake - I should have written 32 bit and not 24 bit in the post. Of course XXHighEnd displays 32bit instead of 24bit, and dCS does not accept 24 bit comunication.
LYNX is producing output on single AES when sample frequency is < 176 kHz. Only on 176/192 it uses double AES. So when I said that I'd switched to single AES = switched DAC to single AES, because second AES does not play at all when <176kHz. This is the main reason I used to play always on 4x and wanted 88.2 or 96 tracks to be upsampled 2x when XXHighEnd is set to 4x.
So, will you enable upsampling 2x and 4x without filtering ?

That is why I changed to single AES to be sure. So, 16/44.1 tracks (I tried a loooot of them) plays : 1x -> XXHIghEnd shows 24bit/44.1kHz, LYNX MIXER shows clock 44.1kHz, dCS shows 24/44.1kHz 2x -> XXHIghEnd shows 24bit/88.2kHz, LYNX MIXER shows clock 44.1kHz, dCS shows 24/44.1kHz 4x -> XXHIghEnd shows 24bit/176.4kHz, LYNX MIXER shows clock 44.1kHz, dCS shows 24/44.1kHz so, changing 1x, 2x, 4x does NOTHING except display in XXHighEnd. Just checked.
Just to be sure. I returned back to b version, and it plays just right: 2x -> XXHighEnd shows 24bit/88.2kHz, LYNX MIXER shows clock 88.2kHz, dCS shows 24/88.2kHz 4x -> XXHighEnd shows 24bit/176.4kHz, LYNX MIXER shows clock 176.4kHz, dCS shows 24/174.4kHz Cannot do anything wrong here.
