Danny,

I got this weird behavior after playing with the player-priority, Q1 and split-file size.
You tried these?
242  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Weird CPU-usage behavior on: March 05, 2010, 10:53:44 am
Don't know if it's usefull, but now  I am back to Y9-5-6 and the CPU is going crazy too.
Soundcard buffer is at the lowest, Q1 = -4 (lowest possible) and the sound is ok (but normal mode).
At start of playing the display goes black and takes some minutes to reappear.
If  I open taskmanager it takes a long time to open and shows nothing.
After some minutes it shows a lot of 100% spikes on al four cores for the complete period available in the graph.

But the music is ok!

Hi Peter,

I checked the old log files and on 21/2/2010 all logs said special mode.
Does the data give any clue to what my settings were?

OK, here are the results:

        3.6 ms  5.6 ms  9.6 ms 13.6 ms 17.6 ms  25.6 ms  37.6 ms
44      88       176     352      529       705       1058      1587
48      96       192     384      576       768       1152      1728
88     176       352     705    1058      1411       2116     3175
96     192       384     768    1152      1536       2304     3456
192    384      768    1536    2304      3072        313      2617

So these are the samples.
What is the buffersize with  these????
245  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9y-7 on: March 04, 2010, 02:35:22 pm
Maybe: 1 / 48000 * 88 samples * 2 channels = 3,67 ms ?  Happy
246  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9y-7 on: March 04, 2010, 12:38:31 pm
OK, I'll make it microseconds, but that's as far as I'll go!
247  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9y-7 on: March 04, 2010, 12:17:04 pm
Sorry, Milliseconds of course.
I'll type over the complete list tonight for your info/fun.
Adaptive mode works like you explained with lowering the buffersize (in my case to 256).
Special mode worked before, I'll try to find the old log!
And of course I'll try to make it work again and write down all the settings.
After that the Wife Acceptance test! Wink

88 samples is the lowest value I can set in the terratec software ,which says 3.6 (or 3.2? (at work now)) seconds latency.
This is for asio, but it makes a difference when I change it so I guess it's just general latency.

Is the previous version exactly the same in normal mode? (Then I'll have to listen better tonight)
(Special mode did not work for me in the last two versions, but maybe I have to try more for that?)

But keep on being critical where needed !

Ok, You asked for it...
I tried 9y-7 and it worked ok in adaptive mode with 256 and 88 samples in the terratec.
It sounds very detailed, BUT there is a high frequency ringing to voices (transients) that I think will make my ears bleed if I turn up the volume.
Details are etched out, but there is still the smell of acid around.
Maybe it is my OS-DAC that is unmasked now, or is this version perfect only for NOS-DAC's?
So I went back to 9-y5-8 (?) and the sound was smooth again although with less detail, but more analog like.
Only I did not manage to get it back in special mode yet.
So is it just me complaining? Or maybe some better settings? (DAP, DAI, NOS all the same for this problem)
Sorry to be critical!

Me having a real short USB cable so you may be right on that!

Yeah, but that means the Dac has to take the place of the recordplayer, oei, oei...(ai, ai)
251  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: XXHighEnd Model 0.9y-6 on: February 25, 2010, 11:47:21 pm
It's working on USB!
Both channels. I think it's the shorter USB-wire that made the difference but not 100% sure.
Don't want to break it to find out...
It plays 16/192 max so no arc, don't know if it sounds better, but it sounds good.

That is, at a higher setting the two channels start to work ?
No, I would wish so!
I guess they made a bad USB-to-SPDIF converter in China for my DAC.
I don't think Left and Right get seperated before the input/samplerateconverter but it looks that way.
Or it must be the USB-codec in the PC, since 'test' is also like that.
253  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: XXHighEnd Model 0.9y-6 on: February 25, 2010, 12:50:50 am
Also for the record,
with USB I can get very low (2 samples), but only one channel is working, guess a DAC problem.
With firewire/SPDIF I can listen at highest Q-rate and only 88 samples in the Terratec, but with constant rattle.

Peter,
Does your fireface work with engine4 special mode?
I think it's quite similar to the terratec (same Envy-chip).

Then does AMD (quadcore) work with engine 4 special mode?
I think core-appointment is not really working the same (?).
Seems there can be a problem with AMD-chipsets and Hiface too... (asynchronus USB-mode not properly supported)

Anybody?

i have connected the dac trough usb and now it does work...

No, not here.
I think I'll go back to the previous version, there I played LOUD, now I don't feel like doing that anymore.
Maybe the disappointment-placebo-effect?
Peter, can I just put the old version over the new one? (Backups why?)
