Got it  Rules

Dumb question - if I play music through the dac with xlr out cables attached at the back but not input into the active speakers (so not to hear the damn music at night  Cool) that will still be breaking the dac in properly yes?

48  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / How to load a long playlist? on: December 31, 2015, 10:54:18 am
I'm trying to break in my NOS1a with hours of playtime. At the moment I can only seem to load one album at a time, if I load another it deletes the first, and so on. So how to load say 20 albums to give me continuous daytime or nightime break in?

49  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / My first NOS1a / XXHE experience..... on: December 30, 2015, 11:59:17 pm
I'm rather ashamed to say I've been the proud owner of a new NOS1a (with BNC and USB cables) for about 1 month now, but only tonight did I finally get music pumping. For various reasons, work, life, a failed laptop project, several failed W10 installations, this is my first few hours with NOS1a...

Coming from an MSB Analog DAC, and after discussions with several members here, I knew I was making the right decision, but I must admit my conviction has been tested over the last 3 or 4 weeks.

I must say Peter has been outstandingly helpful and supportive as I lurched from one bad move to another. The annoying thing about him is that he's (nearly) always right:
"Laptop + XXHE + W10 = bad" - so true, but it took me 2 weeks of toil to fully appreciate this.

So tonight after finding some time in the past few days, and with yet more help from Peter, I finally got things working as they should be (I hope). Using a new PC, 2.03 and W10 10074. Activated, screen sort of ok, all sample rates working, sound coming out of both channels (yes, even at the same time....). I have just spent about 2 hours flicking through various stuff in my collection - Can, Neu!, Alela Diane, PJ Harvey, many more - and have been astounded at the sound quality I'm hearing. The often repeated comment of "accuracy and tonal weight" seems totally true. Bass is deep and pumping, quite shocking at the moment, I need to turn my subs down. Soundstage depth is impressive. Too soon to make other observations but all VERY positive so far. I'm only using the basic SQ settings for newbies so I haven't even touched the fancy filters, minimised OS, unattended playback etc etc. And of course i know that break in of my NOS1a will take many hundreds of hours with several twists and turns in SQ to come. More reports to come in the future.

Thanks. Where is the 'stop' button. I only installed 2.03 last night and haven't got into it yet.

There will be short times when I need to connect my music laptop to the internet, e.g. for driver download, software activation etc. Do the W10 updates only get though on powering down and up again (I would always turn wi-fi off then anyway), or could they sneak in whilst switched back on after powering up and connected for say 10 mins??

52  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Uptone Regen with NOS1a ?? on: November 19, 2015, 02:56:10 pm
Does anyone use, or has anyone tried, using an Uptone 'Regen' on their USB connection into NOS1a? Is this explicitly a "bad" idea with NOS1a (less is more?), or does it have benefits with NOS1a?

53  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Avoid Laptop Dual Boot while 2 OSes on: November 19, 2015, 11:32:42 am
Peter,

With 2.03, and to run 2 different builds of W10 on a laptop with one HD (say 10074 and 10565), to avoid dual boot on the same HD, can I just use an external SSD or do I need more than that (eg RAM?).

Thanks

54  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: SQ Of Preview 10565 on: November 18, 2015, 05:34:24 pm
Nik, looking forward to your verdict on 10074 vs 10565. In an ideal world I would prefer to go with the latter as I don't have to mess about with the system date (not until July 2016 anyway!) and it can be activated directly from an existing W8.1 setup. But if SQ of 10074 is still better than 10565 then so be it!

Thanks very much Peter.
D/L-ing now.

Peter,

Just that you mentioned that 10565 seemed as good or better than 10074 and we don't have much info on SQ of 10586.

Hi All,

I'm new here but you'll be hearing more from me when I finally get my NOS1a ordered, delivered and burnt in....

In the meantime, can anybody post a reliable download link for ISO of 10565?

Thanks,
Paul
